Same ole story for Saints, just not enough firepower, Some of you guys are killing JP for running shot clock out, he is trying to shorten amount of possessions since he doesnt have talent that other MAAC teams have. Not saying I agree with it, just that's what he is doing, he feels limiting possession it gives his team a chance and even if they dont win they only lose by 11, instead of 20 or 30 points - keep in mind not only did JP lose double figures they did so with Rice sitting one of better players in MAAC So-so is lost trying meetings, no meetings, film no film, taking players off bench who haven't played all season .. nothing is working. Easy answer is he should have thought about this the last few years after season and busted his ass on recruiting trail, instead he vacationed his ass off, have zero sympathy for him, he made his own bed. Good luck Monday with SPC and Dunn, should be a barn burner - a 58-52 type game..LOL www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Siena-drops-to-last-in-MAAC-with-loss-to-Monmouth-12526839.phpwww.app.com/story/sports/college/monmouth-university/2018/01/25/monmouth-monmouthbasketball-jimmypatsos-kingrice/1055022001/dailygazette.com/article/2018/01/25/monmouth-s-defense-shuts-down-siena

No argument re using the shot clock to slow the game down - many winning programs do that quite well - teams practice plays that initiate at the 10 second point that are designed to get open shots or +1's at the rim. That being said, I've never, ever seen any kind of coach run the shot clock down after the U4 TO when down by double or close to double digits PERIOD! Agree on the desire to keep the final differential down - that "strategy" elicits the only favorable comments you hear from the ESPN3 broadcast teams - "they have been SO close in SO many of their losses" - "they are SO young" - "they lost SO much last year" - guess we know where you got the SO-SO nickname idea, LOL.

Siena should be thankful the maac is so far down this year. It masks just how bad it is. Some still dont get it. This team has little to no talent for this level. I get it. Some of you dont want to bash the kids. That does not hide the reality that this team cant compete in a maac that is in one of it's lower down cycles. This has actually put some lipstick on the pig. It is worse than it appears.

SF, we get it, yes talent is not good overall, but he does have "some" pieces............yet it WON'T MATTER what better talent JP brings aboard, he CAN'T coach them to be successful, Siena needs to upgrade on BOTH fronts or we aren't getting anywhere anytime soon..........................on another note, it isn't so much running down the shot clock, JP has no clue how to run an offense with the players he has plain & simple.............

JP's post game comments were much more subdued last night and very telling. I get the sense that he has finally realized that this team is lacking talent and that this season my go down as one of the worst ever in Siena history. Very sad in many ways. Can only hope for a better and brighter future of the Saints program.

Watching the 35 mins of that game that I could stomach had to be one of the worst games I've watched. I mean, there were games in JP2 and during MB era that were bad. That one had to be near the top.
A lot of last night was on Jimmy and them not having a good plan...but part of it was certainly having too many guys who just defer, defer, defer, defer.
I like Penn, but he's not perfect and seems to be falling more into a glue guy role. I really like Horn and Richard as scorers, but they're not defenders and need to be surrounded with help. Smithen mostly excels as glue as well but that's not enough.
After them, nobody else has a plus skill. Fisher and Heurter could be helpers but don't have high ceilings.
And I'm sorry but I'm having trouble believing that Oduro is going to be able to make a big leap. I have the sore gut feeling that this is it. I wasn't sure about him after learning more about him before he got here. He has tantalizing physicality but, like a Shivers, it comes in a raw, wild form.
If I were managing some video game roster, I'd keep just Penn, Horn, Richard, Smithen and maybe Heurter & Fisher if feeling generous...and just move on from everyone else. And I'd start looking for starters at every position.

Coaching is recruiting and a having a system you recruit to, he does neither particularly well. This may be the worse Siena team / coach combo I’ve ever seen.

I will tell you what, I would take Byers '96 - '97 roster over the current Saints one any day of the week: www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/siena/1997.htmlByer was an awful coach, but looking back he was a better recruiter than JP. His team would crush the current team IMO.

Not really, he didn't recruit at Loyola either, it all funneled down to him there.
