I will tell you what, I would take Byers '96 - '97 roster over the current Saints one any day of the week: www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/siena/1997.htmlByer was an awful coach, but looking back he was a better recruiter than JP. His team would crush the current team IMO. Yup

No Beyer's last year was like a root canal... this one is like a really bad cavity so far... at least Beyer made peanuts. Beyer won 9 games his last year. do you think So So will reach that mark? Beyer's last game as coach, he loses by 40 to the Griffs in the first round of the MAAC tourney........oh, and he got ejected in that game as well.............

LSI - Loss LeadersEDIT: This blog post pretty much states what Tony did to start this thread - I hadn't read the board prior to writing the blog post, but thought I'd point out that I definitely agree with him re: the possession game, but wasn't trying to crib his hot takes.

I like to propose a motion that for the rest of the season Siena drops the S from the team name and be known as the Siena Aints. Do I have a second?

I actually like Siena Aints better. It has a certain appropriate ring to it.
Can't you here the band now? " Oh with the Aints come limping in, when the Siena Aints come limping in"..... Catchy!

I’m just wondering what the school wants and expects for the men’s basketball team. I think the fans and all other supporters of the program deserve to know. If they want mediocrity, that’s fine, they can have it, but I will move on. Last night, was the first game that I didn’t watch to completion. I don’t care. It’s just not enjoyable watching this team play.
I’ll be sending an email to the school at the end of the season, assuming total apathy hasn’t set in by then. I would suggest that we all do that.

Have the saints ever finished last in the maac, even in the darkest seasons?

Watching the 35 mins of that game that I could stomach had to be one of the worst games I've watched. I mean, there were games in JP2 and during MB era that were bad. That one had to be near the top. A lot of last night was on Jimmy and them not having a good plan...but part of it was certainly having too many guys who just defer, defer, defer, defer. I like Penn, but he's not perfect and seems to be falling more into a glue guy role. I really like Horn and Richard as scorers, but they're not defenders and need to be surrounded with help. Smithen mostly excels as glue as well but that's not enough. After them, nobody else has a plus skill. Fisher and Heurter could be helpers but don't have high ceilings. And I'm sorry but I'm having trouble believing that Oduro is going to be able to make a big leap. I have the sore gut feeling that this is it. I wasn't sure about him after learning more about him before he got here. He has tantalizing physicality but, like a Shivers, it comes in a raw, wild form. If I were managing some video game roster, I'd keep just Penn, Horn, Richard, Smithen and maybe Heurter & Fisher if feeling generous...and just move on from everyone else. And I'd start looking for starters at every position. And it seems you agree that Friday should not play? There is talent on the bench. All of these guys are about the same. A good coach could give them all roles and win some games. He can't go all in with any one player. Rotate Penn at the point and if you like him so much as a rebounder as Patsos said then play him at the 4 as a point forward and let someone else run the offense at times.

What offense? Whatever he is barking out from the coaches box on each ever so long dribbling possession?

Today's paper headlined MAAC tournament to move...they probably think with Siena out after the 1st game attendance will tank...
