It's called entertainment. Isn't that a main reason why we are spending all our money? Basketball is supposed to be entertaining.
Fran ball, Hewitt ball, Deane ball were all successful....and played up tempo entertaining type ball.
Beyer ball, Mitch ball, and Patsos ball (for the most part) all take the air out of the ball on a consistent basis and all were not successful....and not entertaining.
I would much rather lose pushing the ball than taking the air out of the ball.
I consider anything over 65 attempts a game as pushing the ball.
For argument sake, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say anything over 60 attempts a game is pushing the ball (even though it really isn't).
Non -Conference Play
They had 5 blowout losses
0-2 with under 60 attempts
0-3 with over 60 attempts
0-4 with under 65 attempts
0-1 with over 65 attempts
Meaning they were getting blown out both ways in these losses. It didn't really matter what style of ball they played in these games.
MAAC Play
In a down year in the MAAC they are 2-7.
0-2 with over 60 attempts
(losing by 5 and 8)
2-5 with under 60 attempts
(in their loses losing by 1,2,11,7,11)
Meaning it doesn't really make much of a difference in the MAAC this year what style of ball Siena plays in terms of how much your going to lose by.
Your probably not going to get blown out by more than 10-15 pts this year in any MAAC game, let alone by 20 or 30.
The only two double digit losses in MAAC play have been with 41 and 49 attempts.
What ball do you think the players would prefer? The fans? The recruits?
I'd much rather lose 84-76(Niagara-71 attempts) than 67-56(Monmouth-49 attempts).
Thats the whole purpose of going small ball is to get out in transition and make the other team guard you in open space.
They avg 56 attempts a game this year. There is zero reason they could not avg 5-10 shots more a game without their record or how much they lose by getting any worse.
In the MAAC they avg a very dismal 54 shot attempts a game. How bad is that?
Give the kids a chance. His team's have never been great half court teams because they have such a lousy offensive scheme.
Stop controlling so much and just let them play.
Dont do the quick pull all the time. Patience is a virtue. Let them play through mistakes.
That is how they learn. Have more trust in them. They just might surprise you.
Like I said they have nothing to lose and everything to gain if they start to change their style of play and push the ball.
They still may lose but they and we will have more enjoyment losing this way, and who knows, they might even start winning some games?
