Worst team in the history of the program is reason enough. When you consider that Beyer was left with a terrible roster and Carm recruited a roster that was worse is quite an indictment. Add to that that the MAAC is much more depleted than it was in Beyer's tenure. Total and absolute failure. Yet he will be back next year to try to reconstruct the program. If he doesn't cut all the current DII and DIII scholarship players and replace them with real DI talent next year will be a repeat of this year. 1-13 has to be DI talent. If he want to keep 14-16+ with DII walk-on go for it. Every team needs scout team players. I love MC's effort, but he is not a DI talent. Unless recruiting shows me that a team capable of competing for the MAAC championship (unfortunately not a super high bar at this point) I'm out next year. Exactly I’ve following Siena hoops along time, this is definitely the weakest MAAC conference I’ve ever seen & we’re 3 win team. For a 5th year coach that’s inexcusable and speaks volumes!

The comments don’t make Carm look good.
The comments from Siena sound like it’s a true coin flip on what’s going to happen in 10 days.

He’s going to campaign for himself and the admin can’t speak honestly while the season is still going on so this article is basically par for the course right now. When things got this bad under Beyer, Lanier, Mitch B and Patsos they fired all of them without giving them a chance to redeem themselves (Lanier had the best case to be kept but his replacement was the best coach in Siena history). Any financial incentive Siena has to keep him goes out the window when you factor in all the revenue they’ll lose next year if he’s back.

This article is so disheartening. I think we have all kind of felt this man will be back regardless. I think he will be back. This smug attitude just makes it harder to comprehend and makes me so sad to flush 40 years of commitment to this program down the toilet but I will be. My parents poured their hearts into this program then I took over. Took this smug jerk 5 years to make a mockery of this program. If administration cares so little about this program to bring him back then you have lost my family for good. Very sad. Shame on them. Instead of pumping his chest out over this disaster, he should have apologized to this fan base for this creation that is all on him. He should have admitted he should have done more. Problem is folks, he’s just not very good at his job. I’m really sad over this season and this man leading our beloved Saints.

I didn’t like “I” won two regular season title “I finished top 3 4 straight years” but this year was kind of “out of my control” But the comments from the president and source in the AD were telling. We will know what direction we’re going in soon enough.

Couldn’t agree more. This article and his comments make me sick. Seifert talks about the student experience and how the hoop team brings vibrancy to the campus. The students stopped coming after the UAlbany beat down. I pray and truly hope we go in another direction I just fear they don’t have the guts to make the move. I can’t express how sick and sad I am over this team and what it’s become and the complete disconnect between the coach and us devoted fans.

Does Carm ever look in the stands? If he cant figure out the fanbase has bailed on him, he's more naive than I thought.
He's going to be 36-57 in his last 3 years after next week. Stop bragging about what happened the first 2 years. Those were a longggggg time ago in coaches years.
Also a 1-4 MAAC tourney record. Pitiful for a team that "has finished in the top three 4 years in a row."

Oh he’s one arrogant SOB! Per the article: "Nope, not to my knowledge," said Maciariello, asked if there's any reason to think he'll be fired at season's end. "None." "I have two years left (on his contract)," Maciariello added. "I've been in meetings about what we're doing next season, and who we're playing next season, and scheduling and roster management, and from A to Z." Maciariello, a Shenendehowa graduate, pointed out he was in Texas recently on a recruiting trip. "I'm not sure they'd let me spend all this money I am on recruiting and traveling if I'm not the guy," he said. "And why would I not be? I've won two (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) regular-season championships and finished in the top three for four straight years." “we do the best we can with guys that are available and we look forward to just putting a good product on the floor “ He goes onto blame injury and touts his finishes in the top of the MAAC. They asked Siena president Chuck Seifert for a comment he deferred to the dinosaur yes man AD and gave some canned BS response that basically paid lip service to the fans and contained nothing of any substance. Siena’s administration is as much to blame as anyone over the last 14 years for the lack of results. It’s embarrassing! Reading into this statement… "I've been in meetings about what we're doing next season, and who we're playing next season, and scheduling and roster management, and from A to Z."….regarding ‘roster mgmt’…tells me he has said he needs to run off the mistakes he’s made, and D’arg will let him. Otherwise next year is more of the same and they both know they are fired. The ‘we do the best we can’ reminds me what I told my poor performers when they said ‘I’m doing the best I can.’ I’d just tell them anyone can do the best they can, what I need are people that can get the job done. And his ‘with the guys that are available’ is just making excuses with the injuries. Carm you are the one that brought in a D2 roster and left 2 open scholarships. The lack of depth is your fault.

I have no idea what will happen but I can tell you for sure a few things... * D'Arg has always kept the firings close to the vest. He's ALWAYS said that he's behind the coach and they evaluate at the end of every season * They have to let him recruit...if there is a new guy he'll have to re-recruit the players but whatever. Better to start > 0. * D'Arg and the prez aren't blind. They see the empty arena and know they have a problem. If Siena can afford it, they will nuke Carm. They are in a lose / lose more situation really. If they keep Carm they lose season tix in droves. If they fire Carm they owe a payout, likely still lose some season tix and need to roll the dice on a new guy. Risk all the way around. I believe it is a coin flip right now.
