Anyone know Siena’s Freshman debut game records? While everyone at the game last night was informed about A.J. Reeves breaking Providence’s freshmen debut game points scored record; I was wondering if Sloan broke Siena’s records for attempted & made three point shots? Paul, if you’re out there and kept the stats you used to compile the Siena Media/record books let us know. Sloan attempted 9 and made 5 treys in his first game as a Siena freshman. I know he didn't get most points record but may have gotten most 3’s made/attempted. If he keeps this up for 4 years and Siena gets some postseason play in at least 2-3 of those he’ll challenge Scott Knapp & Tay Fisher records. No offense Scott & Tay but I sort of hopes he gets it (because maybe that’ll translate to Siena Team success too). Don't have Siena debut records... but can go back to 1996-97 season and no Siena freshman in that period made 5 3-pt FG in their debut before Seymour. Just because I was curious I looked up Knapp and Tay's debuts. Knapp was 1-8 FG including 0-6 from 3. Tay was 4-11 FG including 4-10 from 3.

Have to guess Pickett’s 9 assists might be a record as well.

Well Papi, you always look at the downside. Some pitchers in baseball have low ERAs because of outstanding bull pens. In team sports you always have those situations. But the young man did not have that many turnovers either. What you seem to miss is the fact that these freshmen did these things against one of the better college teams and it was the first game of their collegiant(sp?) career.

I was really impressed with Sloan’s shooting. Like all really good shooters, every shot Sloan took looked like it was going in. With his size and shooting ability he is really going to be a handful against MAAC level competition

If a guy gets hot from three it's a pretty easy assist. I hope you guys finally realize you need to take at least 20 to 30 threes a game.

With this team... yes that is probably true. Some past siena teams, like Fran's era... they had an abysmal record when taking more than 20 threes and we are talking about a team that had a very very good record yet were sub .500 when taking more than 20 threes. All depends on style and personnel.

Providence had 13 made 3s, but no one with more than 5 assists. I think 9 assists by any player is a notable achievement, not just simple luck.

Your hero from last year couldn’t figure that or much else out, yet you never criticized him. Our new coach has a system, found kids to fit that system in the short time he had and is coaching and ENCOURAGING them to maximize their potential in that system.

Our new coach has a system, found kids to fit that system in the short time he had and is coaching and ENCOURAGING them to maximize their potential in that system. While I didn’t criticize the coach either, I had a different reason. I didn’t disagree with others critical comments (internally) I just couldn’t find it in myself to publicly critique him (because I’m going to root for my program no matter what). That being said I love the new coach and his system/approach way better than some prior Siena coaches. This coach has been able to get the players to not only buy into his system but his carrot vs the stick approach, I believe, has allowed the returning players to show what they can do when properly coached. Carrot = encouragement & teaching. “Our new coach has a system, found kids to fit that system in the short time he had and is coaching and ENCOURAGING them to maximize their potential in that system. ” +1
