Looks that way.

Hearing from multiple spots across the MAAC that the league will go to an 18-game schedule beginning in 2016-17. It's been 20 last two years

The MAAC will go to an 18-game conference schedule beginning next season, sources told @cbssports. Had been 20. Official announcement soon.
Wow not even waiting until 17-18 - this means most MAAC teams will have at least two games to schedule on short notice. I'm sure Siena will add two more (to get to 31 regular season games overall) since they need a 14 game home schedule.

Hopefully Jimmy doesn't schedule more Loyola type team's- This Could be a good chance to build strength of schedule and RPI - When we gonna get a two for one with Iowa?

Great news. To make it easy we should volunteer to skip rider and spc every year. Better yet, kick one of them out and problem solved.

Unbalanced schedule leads to luck of the draw and excuses. Bad move.

Eh, I'm torn about this move. Sure, it would be nice not to play a weak MAAC team in the schedule, but it is great to hear that we can schedule some tougher RPI rich opponents.
What if we don't play a Iona/Monmouth type team if those are the games we miss? Wouldn't that hurt the RPI too?
Whatever. They should roll this out next school year- schools will be scrambling to find quality opponents at this point in the year.

While I like 2 more OOC games, not a fan of unbalanced schedule. Can easily see that leading to bitching from some fans. What if we only get 1 game with Monmouth and or Iona and it’s on road? Or we have Buffalo trip and Monmouth and or Iona does not- or only has 1 game in Buffalo.
Also concerned about quality of opponents Jimmy will bring in, under the best of conditions scheduling hasn’t been a strong point of Jimmy. Short notice like this- cant see us getting any quality opponent into TUC – would have rather seen this rule come in next year, not this year

This seems borderline insane. Absolutely no reason to roll this out on such short notice. I'm willing to bet that of those additional 22 games that the MAAC teams now need to schedule that at least 16 of them wind up road games and I wouldn't be shocked if 20 of the 22 wind up on the road.

You're probably right but nobody has to schedule any additional games. I'm confident Siena will because they need 14 home games. If they can pull it off maybe they get two at home for 15 home games. This is a good chance to set up a home and home with a good mid-major needing a home game for next year - Siena then gets a nice return game in 2017-18 at the TUC. Maybe that series with Harvard gets started this year? Worse case one more home game against a so-so team and get another check for a BCS road game on national TV.

I can no longer access the Basketball Travelers Game Schedule Board. Does anyone know of teams still looking for games that would improve our OOC schedule and still give us 14 home games?

It does not seem beyond the realm of possibility that for this year, most teams involved simply schedule the teams that are not going to be conference games as non-conference games. Problem solved. Or is that too reasonable, logical and simple? (I know, no "drama" for this board but hey you can't have everything).

Asinine to implement this now and not in 17/18.

Agreed. If the solution to the open dates created by this decision is to play conference games as non-conference games, asinine is too mild a word.

So how does this work? Is a team leaving or is 1 team not played every year?

I presume each team will play eight others home and home, one team home only and one team away only.

Based on Ensor's comments elsewhere in this thread, I get the impression that there may have been pressure from a couple of teams that wanted to schedule a couple more OOC games this year and have the opportunity to do so. Who knows who and how many, but for those faced with a choice between holding their nose at an unattractive home game or being faced with two road games, my earlier suggestion may prove a reasonable alternative.
