I hate these tournaments too but problem is if you don't play in them you only get 29 games instead of 31. So basically the 27 games of your schedule is set, now your options are: Tournament at High Major at High Major home vs Low Major at Low Major No Tourney with guarantee game at High Major vs Mid Major (alternating one year home one year away) No Tourney with no guarantee game home vs Mid Major away vs Mid Major Unfortunately, there is no way to get the scenario you presented of playing the guarantee game and using the two games you save to get a home and home with mid majors. What Jimmy should be doing is fighting tooth and nail to land a coveted spot in one of the neutral site tournaments as often as he can. If he mixes those in on occasion then I can live with doing these crappy seeded tournaments the other years. We can get in better tournaments though. In 2007-2008 we were in the preseason NIT (though that tournament has lost some luster still a good preseason tournament) - 2008-09 we went to the Old Spice obviously being in the MAAC helped that. In 2009-10 we were in the Philly Classic which wasn't a great tournament but we got a home game vs Delaware, road game at Temple and St. John's/Brown on a neutral floor. This year really would have been the year for Siena to go to the Old Spice (Quinnipiac instead is going). Siena was forced into going Jimmy's first year because it kept on being delayed. Still Charleston, Puerto Rico, Diamond head, Paradise Jam, Cancun etc draws a lot of quality mid-majors. At the very least Jimmy needs to start scheduling better home and homes. I'm hoping a 2-1 or even 3-1 can be worked out with Maryland with Jimmy's connections and the Huerter brothers. Old Spice/Advocare is supposed to alternate between every team in the MAAC so we are lucky to get that more than once every 11 years. The others that you mentioned are the ones Jimmy needs to be fighting to get in to but the spots for midmajors are so few and far between. Charleston has only Western Michigan as a mid-major (aside from the host). Puerto Rico only has Northern Iowa who barely counts. Cancun is the same setup as these other garbage bracketed tourneys. Really leaves you with the Diamond Head and the Paradise Jam as the best options and those tourneys have their choice of the best midmajors in the country. Unrealistic to expect we can get in those with regularity but we need to see them mixed in on occasion instead of just settling for these crappy ones every year.

Majority of our league doesn't have any interest in going to the Old Spice (Iona rejected it two years ago). We have tried to get 2-for-1's from big programs, most notably Syracuse, and they laugh at us. Zero interest in coming here. They gain nothing. Best bet of the TUC getting a great team here is when Huerter, Platek and Wright become seniors in college and they are awarded a game in their hometown.

Still about 8 or so nonexempt events that take MAAC level teams. Not easy to get into them, but I cant stand the 3 road games for maybe 1 home game. Very few mid majors play in them, and those that do not sure anyone does every year -- very so-so scheduling
BTW Iona - Great alaska shootout --and Quinny ( orlando) are both in neutral site tournaments this year

I understand that it's now very difficult to get big name schools to play on the road at a mid-major. The neutral sites are also hard to get into because every good mid-major tries to get in those as they should. It just sucks that know this is the landscape of college basketball and the Admin has the audacity to INCREASE season ticket prices. Like it's now a treat to watch us play Loyola and Prairie View A+M at home.

Georgetown and Maryland would be nice.
The schedule is what it is. We have to win against winnable foes (Cornell) and then schedule some high mid majors...I'd like to see Valpo-like talent visit the TUC. A major school to come here seems unlikely- the last school to come in my memory was Syracuse in Lanier's last year (and, yes, I know I'm not counting Butler in Mitch's first year, but they were a high mid and that was the return of the bracket buster game). That will take many years of sustained success before majors are willingly wanting to visit Albany. Even then, It's very difficult to get the big boys to come. Just the name of the game.
Perhaps a SEC team would be interested? That would be a league that would definitely benefit playing a Siena. Our RPI was 101- that benefits a weak league.
I don't mind the tournaments as long as Siena plays the major teams. Playing Duke and Wisconsin was a good learning experience for the team last year. Sure, playing the other teams in a little gym in Rhode Island was not great, but we won those games. Sure, this year the home schedule is disappointing. The schedule is what it is.
I do not like the fact the MAAC is forcing the league schedule switch this late in the year- it is not well thought out decision. Implement the change next year when we can schedule more quality opponents.
It all goes down to...just win. Winning programs are more willing to schedule winning programs.

If you want to support the team and buy season tickets but don't like the opponents give those tickets away and stop bitching.

This conversation always goes to "well major teams wont come here" and I don’t disagree with that. But a big difference between having Arkansas pine bluff , Cornell , Vermont, Bucknell and having any number of CAA- MAC- A10 teams that will come here I get the schedule is what it is, but no getting away from fact it’s an extremely weak schedule, especially the home portion. The fact we have a senior dominated team makes this fact even more depressing, if you won’t schedule tough with a senior dominated team, you will never schedule tough.

Would like to see 4 team Christmas holiday tourney return to Cap District two days - two double headers ... Siena/Albany in first game ... Get 2 decent mid-majors or if we are lucky at least one BCS ... This format guarantees a local in the finals ... Get four games over the holiday's

I'd even go a step further and make it an event where you play all 3 other teams over 3 days. In return Siena and Albany go play at both of the other teams the following year. Everybody wins, especially if you can get it made an exempt event.
