I'm not that high on Cherry... remember while Fran's record wasn't great at UNCG he was over .500 and went to an NCAA and NIT. Also Fran had a couple of rough years before winning 18 games his last year at UNCG. I doubt Siena would have hired him off a losing season. Paulsen might be out of reach unless Siena opens the wallet and he wants to come home... but Toole (makes very little at RMU) Horn (not getting another BCS job) and Neubauer (Fran II) are all very very attainable. You shot him down when everyone discussed him, now he's "not often mentioned" and one of your candidates?

Jim Crutchfield DII coach West Liberty Univ. West Virginia . Teamm averages 106 ppg. I just read the article on Crutchfield, as well...it's not a gimmick necessarily, because the team also wins. A lot. The issue, as the article lays out, is that he has lived in West Virginia his entire life, is 57 years old, and has been offered but turned down other D1 coaching offers. He seems content where he is, and his style might be almost too extreme to be successful at this level (ie redshirting almost all freshman, nabbing underrecruited players in WV).

Word is that LIU Coach Chris Casey will receive close consideration. Casey is the head coach at D 2 power CW Post/LIU where he is currently 17 wins and 7 losses coming off a 23 & 7 and Conference title in2012. Before accepting the LIU head positions Casey served as a Big East Assistant at St.John's University. Casey is a relatively yping guy who I am told is sweakie clean in his personal life which bodes well with the Franciscans. Below is Coach Casey's bio. The thought I keep having is "What other schools will be looking for a new coach at the end of the year?" Just as an example what other schools might be interested in Paulsen or Toole and how do we stand up to other potential offers. If we look at the BCS schools with failing basketball teams who would they be looking for? Do coaches historically recruit locally or their home area. I know Fran had a great Philly connection which isn't very far. With no name in mind would we want a great potential from California or Texas?
Just questions I have with no answers.

Actually, Fran's connection wasn't as great as some make it out to be. Most smaller colleges recruit regionally, with a few random recruits possible outside that region. Siena has always recruited New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, before and after Fran was here.

Anthony Evans is my pick....young, head coaching experience and tournament experience with very little resources plus he has great connections to NYC where many of his current players are from....Paulsen and Toole I don't think will leave for a place like Siena when they can stay their respective schools, have success and probably get BCS looks when the time is right....Anthony Evans at Norfolk State

Especially after what happened with Mike Rice at R.U-who is on the hot seat. Siena should make Toole their number 1 choice !

Siena has always recruited New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, before and after Fran was here. You do know Fran was born and raised in Philadelphia right? And that he attended Penn? I'd say he pretty well connected to that area! So would Moore, Franklin and CJ (southern NJ to Philly is like northern NJ to NY).....and his sidekick Mitch probably got Rahk and Breeden because of his and Frans PA. ties. With that, of course Siena has always recruited the Metro NY area. We actually need to do a better job of it. Hopefully the new guy willl have a foot in the door, especially to the CHSAA.

Kevin Boyle, was coach at St Patricks HS in NJ and now coaching in florida. Hard working and dedicated coach who wins and has eastern connections. Actually had a winning record vs Hurley at St ANthony's.

A tad premature since Mitch hasn't been fired and we have no idea if any of these guys will be considered for the eventual opening, but this MAAC quarterfinal game is putrid, so I was taking a look to see where some of the coaches that have been mentioned on here as potential candidates stand in their current season.
Andy Toole - Robert Morris - Lost today in the NEC semi's at home to Mt St Mary's 69-60. RMU won the regular season crown so they are NIT bound. Currently 23-10 overall.
Dave Paulsen - Bucknell - Won at home 78-70 over Army in the Patriot Semi's. They get Lafayette in the finals. Bucknell is currently 27-5. In the event that they lose in the finals they would also be NIT bound as regular season champs.
Brett Reed - Lehigh - Lost today in the Patriot semi's to Lafayette 82-69. They are currently 21-9 which is pretty darn impressive after losing McCollum. They will make their way into a postseason tournament of some sort I would imagine.
Jeff Neubauer - Eastern Kentucky - Lost to Murray State in OVC semi's 81-73. They are presently 24-9 and will be in a postseason tourney as well. Big bounce back season for Neubauer, he had strung together a number of mediocre to poor seasons.
Anthony Evans - Norfolk State - They finished the regular season 21-10 and a perfect 16-0 in MEAC play winning the regular season title. MEAC tournament doesn't kick off until beginning of next week.
Think that is most of the DI guys that we have bantered about.
Some lower level guys:
Joe Lombardi - Indiana (PA) - Won the PSAC conference tournament today beating Slippery Rock. They are currently 24-5 and were ranked 13th in the country in the last rankings that came out the beginning of last week. They should be a high seed in d2 NCAA tournament.
Chris Casey - LIU-Post - Were the 3 seed in East Coast Conference tournament and were upset in first round by 6 seed Dowling. Record is currently 18-9. Probably a long shot to make d2 tournament as an at large.
Bob Walsh - Rhode Island College - Finished the regular season 22-3 and won the Little East regular season title. Went on to win the Conference tournament to improve to 25-3 and an automatic d3 ncaa tourney birth. Won their first round NCAA game against Hobart 62-59. Lost in the second round today to Morrisville State 66-61. Season ends with a record of 26-4.
Mike Maker - Williams - Finished regular season 22-3 and second place in NESCAC finishing behind Amherst. Lost to Amherst in NESCAC conference title game. Got an At-Large birth to d3 tourney. Won first round game against Wesley and won second round game today against Catholic. Record sits at 25-4 and they are in the Sweet 16.
