So far we've had Wojo and now McNamara suggested.
Who wants to nominate Paulus for the job?

How about Carmelo Anthony? He doesn't even play defense, so he sure won't try to coach it.

Clifford was a finalist for the Trailblazers job this past offseason. He's not coming to Siena. I thought Stotts got the job over Canales? Was Clifford on the long list?

Horn was born and raised in Kentucky. Played & coached at WKU. Coached at More head State. Coached at South Carolina. Other than his stint on Crean's staff at Marquette he's stayed exclusively in the south. Not a good fit up at Siena in my opinion. Paulsen made 185k for the period of 7/10-6/11 from the most recent 990 I could find. He got a new contract in 4/11 after their NCAA birth. Sure he got a nice bump. I see zero reason he would leave a program that he's got running at a high level to come to Siena. Quite frankly that would be my opinion for pretty much any currently employed D-I head coach. Only one's that would be interested are ones that are having mediocre results that could be on the hot seat themselves. I would agree Paulsen is a long shot- but I wouldn’t say zero reason. His wife is from Loudonville and he of course went to Williams college as well as coached there for 8 years- so he does have some deep roots in the area. Plus Siena could probably double maybe triple his salary depending on how big a bump he got - I do agree he has Bucknell humming and Siena is a massive rebuilding job, so it certainly wouldn’t be easy. I have no idea what if any family the wife still has In CD- but don’t underestimate the power of a wife wanting to be closer to her family.

I think Paulsen can get to the BCS from Bucknell - not saying every Bucknell head coach could, but I think he can. Toole isn't getting to the BCS from Robert Morris, especially after Mike Rice's problems at Rutgers.

Good point on Paulsen - and he may be willing to wait a few more years. He is in a good situation Like I said Paulsen is definitely a long shot.
As for Assistant coaches- I certainly hope Siena doesn’t “cheap” out and go that route. Way too much of a crap shoot. Sure Siena got lucky with Deane, Hewitt-- but they also struck out with Beyer and especially Lanier- who coming in had a very similar resume( some might say better) than Hewitt. Siena needs to hire an experienced coach- preferably one not coming off 5 straight losing seasons. So forget the unproven assistant coaches – way too much of a gamble no matter how good they look

Monday morning after the Super Bowl and I don't want to be at work so naturally I am scouring the web looking for coaching candidates. Another lower division name that I find quite interesting: Indiana (PA) Head Coach Joe Lombardi. 1987-1992 St. Francis (PA) Asst Coach (Asst. HC last 3 years) 1992-2001 St. Bonaventure Asst Coach (Assoc HC last 6 years) 2001-2003 LaSalle Asst Coach 2003-2006 Pittsburgh Asst Coach 2006-Present Indiana (PA) Head Coach - Division II Now to dive into his resume at Indiana (PA). Took over the program as they were hit with NCAA sanctions relating to the previous staff and completely rebuilt the program. 2006-2007 6-21 2007-2008 13-15 2008-2009 22-8 2009-2010 33-3 2010-2011 26-6 2011-2012 23-6 2012-2013 17-2 Year to Date He's on a 4 year run of making the Div II NCAA tournament including a trip to the Championship Game in 09-10. The combination of being around D-I programs for 20+ years and now winning at an 83% clip over the last 4+ years at D-II is a pretty interesting/appealing combo. Roster composition has kids from Western PA in the Pittsburgh area as well as Eastern PA in Philly. Has a few D-I transfers on his roster (including a kid from Loyola). In my opinion a guy like this is more interesting than a guy with mediocre results at D-I. www.iupathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=213&path=mbball

Funny how these losses make me want to explore for a new coach.
Anyhow, the latest suggestion, Anthony Evans Head Coach of Norfolk State.
A Brooklyn, NY native, played his college ball at St. Thomas Aquinas in Rockland County.
Prior Head coaching experience includes stints at Ulster County Community College (2001 went 23-8 was Region XV runner up and he was named coach of the year). After Ulster he went to SUNY- Delhi for 2 years where his teams went 62-8 and won region titles both years and appearances in the JUCO National tournaments. Teams were ranked #1 Nationally for parts of both years.
Left Delhi for an assistant job at Norfolk State for 4 years. After the 2007 season Norfolk did not renew the contract of their HC Dwight Freeman and they conducted a HC search but decided to name Evans interim HC for a year. During that next season they eventually named him permanent HC which is where he has been now for 6 seasons.
At Norfolk he is presently 94-92 overall and 61-30 in conference.
What folks would be most familiar with would be their 2-15 upset in last years NCAA tournament over Missouri when Kyle O'Quinn made a name for himself. That team started 4 seniors including O'Quinn who parlayed his prominence into a second round draft pick of the Orlando Magic.
So losing all that firepower surely Norfolk took a step back this season right? How about 16-10 overall and 11-0 in conference. Pretty impressive.

Other names not mentioned often:
Scott Cherry.. Career record is under .500 but he is 15-10 with High Point this season and they score 73 points a game.
Jamion Christian (Mount St. Mary's HC) Only in his first season at MSM and very young but plays uptempo and has been pegged as a young and up coming coaching star.
Andy Enfield (Flordia Gulf Cost) Menioned Enfield before...former asst at Florida State..took over a newbie D1 program is 19-9 in his second year there (in the Atlantic Sun same league Cliff Warren and Jacksonville are in).. top 50 in the country in scoring points.

Joe Lombardi and Anthony Evans sound like awesome choices. I like that Evans didn't take the proverbial step back too far after losing all his big guns. A guy like that + a move to a better league could mean long-term success though I think that unless we get blessed like Gonzaga and Butler we'll be most likely to end up like Xavier.
