In light of the disaster today this seems like an appropriate topic. I'm not limiting you to any specific individuals just who would top your list and you believe is attainable. Doesn't have to be anyone that has been mentioned here in the past just limit yourself to only one choice. I'll kick it off with VCU Assoc Head Coach Mike Rhoades. www.vcuathletics.com/information/directory/bios/Rhoades_Mike

Rhoades isn't a bad choice ... but I'd like a guy with D1 head coaching experience.
Dave Paulsen - Bucknell HC .. My top choice. Siena would have to pay him similar to what Fran was making in his final season. He is a Williams graduate and wife is from the area
Others potentially -
Andrew Toole - Robert Morris HC ...He's only 33 years old but has done well at RMU taking over for Mike Rice. Record is 56-32
Darren Horn - Won big at Western Kentucky..left for tough South Carolina job and was fired after four so-so years. I would guess he'll want to coach again and a top mid-major job is where he would be headed.
Jeff Neubauer- Reportedly interviewed with Siena back in 2010 ..played at LaSalle has Eastern Kentucky currently at 15-4 and averages 72 PPG
Kyle Smith - Head coach at Columbia .. was an asst to Randy Bennett at St. Mary's, Hamilton College grad
Cliff Warren - Head coach at Jacksonville.. 110-124 but first season only won one game rebuilding with limited resources- also interviewed in 2010.
Steve Pikiell - Head coach at Stony Brook - has rebuild SBU and took them to the AE as a newcomer to D1.
I'm sure there will be many more names bandied about.

Here's an Option Scott Cherry- High Point
Cherry is a native of Ballston Spa, New York. UNC grad and Local Ties here In 1999 he began the first of two stints as an assistant to Jim Larranaga at George Mason. He left the Patriots in 2002 and spent one year as an assistant at Tennessee Tech. He returned to George Mason in 2003 and participated in the Patriots 2006 run to the Final Four. In 2007 he joined the staff of Darrin Horn as an assistant at Western Kentucky. Cherry followed Horn to South Carolina for the 2008–09 season. He was named the head coach of High Point on March 26, 2009.

I'd take a successful high school coach or Youth league coach over Mitch at this point. An old knitting granny or kid w/no experience. Everytime I think if the 4-15 record in a D1 program, anything has to be better that what we are getting from the current HC
-Ditch Mitch

I get the local connection but he's not exactly lighting it up at HP. I don't think so! On the other hand I really like Horn

On the other hand I really like Horn take into consideration the other factors, obviously you look for success on the court, but there could be reasons or many obstacles that stand in the way of accomplishing that............Cherry is well respected and a young up & comer...........this isn't necessarily a big plug for him, but he should not be discounted simply based on the w-l record.....remember Fran, was slight over .500 when he came here to work his magic........no matter who is selected, there will always be some reservations and you don't know you hit a home run until the dust settles!!!!!!!!!

Siena can't afford to gamble on someone like Cherry, he is unproven as a head coach. Four years of experience, never above 500. He's not close to Fran. Fran had 9 years as a head coach and 6 of those 9 years at 500 or above. No way Cherry is a good fit. Compare Cherry to Horn not even close. Horn is more like Fran in every way. Are you guys related to Cherry?

I'm not that high on Cherry... remember while Fran's record wasn't great at UNCG he was over .500 and went to an NCAA and NIT. Also Fran had a couple of rough years before winning 18 games his last year at UNCG. I doubt Siena would have hired him off a losing season.
Paulsen might be out of reach unless Siena opens the wallet and he wants to come home... but Toole (makes very little at RMU) Horn (not getting another BCS job) and Neubauer (Fran II) are all very very attainable.

Horn was born and raised in Kentucky. Played & coached at WKU. Coached at More head State. Coached at South Carolina. Other than his stint on Crean's staff at Marquette he's stayed exclusively in the south. Not a good fit up at Siena in my opinion.
Paulsen made 185k for the period of 7/10-6/11 from the most recent 990 I could find. He got a new contract in 4/11 after their NCAA birth. Sure he got a nice bump. I see zero reason he would leave a program that he's got running at a high level to come to Siena.
Quite frankly that would be my opinion for pretty much any currently employed D-I head coach. Only one's that would be interested are ones that are having mediocre results that could be on the hot seat themselves.

I think that Siena is going to have to pay their coach BIG MONEY the next time-end of story. And they might have to beg like they did with Hewitt. And we shall see if Siena Admin. has any respect for their fan base or any balls ! If there is not even real offer to Paulsen or Toole ! That will tell us something !!

I don't see Horn's KY roots as a negative, if anything it increases our recruiting area. Hire an assistant w/ NE/Mid Atlantic ties. It's not like our recent (Mitch) northeast, mid Atlantic affiliation has worked all that well. Horn has great pedigree. Is obtainable. Is a proven winner.

Only one's that would be interested are ones that are having mediocre results that could be on the hot seat themselves. much as the case at lower D1 schools, the bump he received was a only a bit more in salary but essentially it added years.........IF Siena was serious, and really wanted him, they could double his salary without much trouble.........and as to Paulsen wanting to leave, no one can answer that but him of course, but the advantages of what he could get here as far as perhipheral support, ability to recruit with a decent budget, bump up in salaries for assistant coaches, ability to play in a big time arena that could draw 7K plus nightly when winning...........sure is alot of attractiveness for even him to at least be intrigued.......all things that he cannot currently achieve at Bucknell............BCS could snatch him up anyway now, so it would not hinder him to move to Loudonville, the next move could be made from here as well (and has actually been done more readily)!!!!!!!!!!
