Assuming the Hawkeyes do not have a miraculous come back from the 25 point half-time deficit against 'nova, McCaffery' tournament record will be an identical 2-3 at both Siena and Iowa. And arguably more successful at Siena, since he had 3 appearances in 5 seasons vs 3 appearances in 6 seasons at Iowa. Shows that the right coach(es) can compete at the highest levels at Siena.

Interesting, Fran a .500 coach (54-50)in his first three years at Iowa taking over a failing program and Patsos is about the same doing the same thing at Siena. Fran is a god and Patsos is a devil to some here. Everything is relative. Let's take the wait and see approach before writing off Patsos. Next year should be a good one with high expectations, recruiting and player development will tell the tale going forward.

Agree, Didn't mean to denigrate Patsos..I believe there's potential for similar success with him at Siena

Basketball programs take time rebuild! Especially when they have to wait for less talented kids to gradate or transfer out! But some fans have no patience!

Fran 687 overall while in the MAAC / 756 vs MAAC teams. Patsos 505 overall / 517 vs MAAC. How many wins does Fran have over BCS schools vs Patsos. How many NCAA appearances and wins does Fran have vs Patsos. How many MAAC reg season titles, how many MAAC tournament championships? C'mon Bill!!!!!! See my other post, Patsos 12 year track record in the MAAC isn't great. If youre honest his Siena record is right on par with his lifetime MAAC performance. Just sayin' & that worries me .....

A lot of Iowa fans look at Fran like a lot of Siena fans look at Jimmy. Not favorable - just read their board. Hey that's why these guys make big bucks. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.
Fran played Nova a lot tougher in the round of 32 eight years ago - at least Siena hung in there for a while.
I do find in funny Fran's record after year 3 at Iowa was similar to Jimmy's after year 3 at Siena. Sure the Big 10 is a brutal conference but Iowa also can "buy" wins. They both took over utter disasters.

Who recruited the less talented kids you need to replace in the first place. Your logic kills me! JP got pretty good mileage with Mitch's kids Brett JO and Oliver. The kids he's been replacing are his own recruits!

Really ?! Last years /this years grads were recruited by Mitch!
As for Fran-when you coach in those bigger confrances you are going to competing with coaches that are LEGANDS! Now as those coaches retire or move on ...the likes of Fran might have a better shot at taking it to the next level!

Fran has 5 NIT or NCAA appearances at Iowa and 3 at Siena, I don't see any comparison here with JP.

Neither Fran or JP are perfect, in the real world yes Fran is the better coach without doubt. Iowa board must he going ballistic right now. What the detractors fail is that JP was offered the position, auld he have been, let blame those in charge for the hire not the man himself. How y have turned down offered positions that pay the compensation package. Qualified or not, he had the résumé, bake the group w hired him.

Your post was obviously encrypted before being transmitted! If he was not qualified, are you implying his resume was half-baked?
