I almost don't care what happens from here. Obviously you want to continue to get better and win but the weaknesses of this roster are now identified and hopefully they are addressed in the off-season.
Cole, hopefully Taplin and an athletic 4

This year has been a lot of fun so far, and I expect the good times to only get better

Silas had an insane block, almost jumping over the kid, but hurt us with his turnovers and missed chippies. No one has mentioned the missed FTs, 6 on the first half. Oliver and White played well with their minutes. We played a good game against a superior opponent. Imoh has been 'off' since the Rider game and the only thing I see is he is again trying to be too complicated. Needs to stop putting the ball on the floor every time and just go up when close enough in the paint. The back to the basket hook shot needs work. I thought we could have used him a little more defensively yesterday but what do I know. Lavon has also been pretty much an enigma for the last few games. One thing I do know, we can't beat Iona, Manhattan, Quinny or Canisius unless they all BRING some serious attitude to compete, which Jimmy has clearly stated in the last TWO pressers was missing from some of the players. Maybe all basketball all the time and no schoolwork isn't a good thing ( I can see the eyes of some rolling!!) Nice to see Ryan Oliver step it up, he needs to continue to grow in to the 'sniper' role and build confidence. The fact that he did it yesterday against one of the toughest teams in the league is a good thing. Sorry guys but JO isn't showing me as much as I had hoped and all things aside, he didn't bring it all the time in high school either. With all that said, I totally agree that it has been and will be fun to see how this plays out over this season, and the future is certainly bright.

Agree-- whatever they have to do to stay on the court, I hope they do it. In MAAC losses, Silas and Long combine to average only 18 minutes a game. In MAAC wins they combine for 23 minutes. Hopefully Wright learns from this and stays aggressive but stops himself from getting that 5th foul.... I'm tired of losing and this team has the ability to have a winning record in the MAAC, at least.

We are 42-69 since the Big 3 graduated...tough to stomach but we are on the right track and I believe Jimmy is the right guy to get us back - and we will be back very soon. As long as Marquis Wright stay healthy we've got a good shot to at least be .500 if not better in the MAAC. We were fortunate to win the St. Bonaventure and Cornell games but we also could have 3 or 4 more wins (Purdue in Orlando, UA, Iona to name a few) and be at 10-7 instead of 7-10 right now. The margin for error is very slim. The season is shaping up similar to Hewitt and Fran's first year although it probably (still an outside chance) won't be a winning season overall. The main reasons being a much tougher OOC schedule and simply more veteran returning talent on the 1997-98 and 2005-06 teams.

Man this board is hard to read sometimes. We win a few games, everything is fine, we lose a game vs maybe the most offensively talented team we will face and now the line-up should change. Oliver shows up once and should now start....... and good luck just "signing" another PG for next year. With Wright getting 35 min a game for the next 3+ years (conceivably) Siena isn't getting a top notch PG to come and play back-up. Hard enough to recruit talent at this level, even harder when you lack of minutes to offer. Long- has to be near the top in min's played by a freshman in the country even with his foul issues, so one game where his min's are cut for a variety of reasons does NOT mean it is now the norm... PPC as much as you don't want it, Long will have the trials and tribulations of most freshman, where he is the man one game and in the coaches doghouse (not saying he is, just an example) the next... look at JO this year... look at hymes this year... not every game and every stat line will be newsworthy.... some of the best players siena has ever had have thrown worse clunkers and played less mins then Long did yesterday. Why some people STILL feel the need to tear down Hymes, I don't know. Not one person who follows this team is unfamiliar with his game. he had a great offensive game again yesterday, our defense gave up 15 3', he wasn't responsible for all of them..... i swear some of you wait for these kids to fail, or have a bad game so you can say "see, i told you so".... what is the end game in that? if this team does anything the next few years, it will be because Poole, Hymes and Bisping have helped lead them to whatever wins they get... they don't win in spite of them and lose because of them.... its time put the VERY obvious Mitch's team vs Jimmy;s team to rest once and for all and pull for this team, as ONE..... but that would leave some of you with NOTHING to say... which maybe is a good thing.

Actually 95... everything isn't fine and hasn't been. Some new faces are starting to see the light on the limitations the current roster has. We have some holes. .. significant ones. Because Hymes has a good game or two or goes off offensively it doesn't mask his defensive issues. Because bisping busts his ass and we love that he does. .. it doesn't mask his defensive deficiencies. Because guys are playing out of position it is causing problems some games. The team can't really play man to man with the roster as is. People are simply discussing that help is on its way

I feel like we need the speech from Coach Dale in Hoosiers "I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. These six individuals have made a choice to work, a choice to sacrifice, to put themselves on the line 23 nights for the next 4 months, to represent you, this high school. That kind of commitment and effort deserves and demands your respect. This is your team."
I just don't see the point of constantly down playing guys who are busting their ass for our Alma Mater. And honestly, every player on this team has some flaw, or they would not be here. I can count on one hand the # of kids we have had that clearly should have been playing higher. This team is infinitely more enjoyable to watch then the last few years. They weren't going to won 20 this year, but i would guess they are above a lot of peoples expectations so far. My only issue is, seems like any time someone has a good game, it goes with a "but"........ Hymes is what he is, we know this, fun to watch 1 minute, aggravating the next, but he will end up being a 1000 pt scorer on this level, so clearly he can play D1....

That's right you just don't get it. This is a fan board and as such fans are generally up when the team is up and down when the team is down. The vast majority of fans discuss players strengths and weaknesses, great performances and disastrous games. It is what we do. Also, for close to 20 years now (Yes the first Siena board started about 20 years ago) the moderators have kept posters in line from truly attacking the players. But lets be clear, what they do on the court is fair game, it is their person, character, etc. that we have defended. Hopefully, you can enjoy the ride just as we all are, and make no mistake we are enjoying it immensely, even if all our comments aren't "A player is great, B player is great, C player is great......."

i guess i need to remember there are some on here that found reason to bitch when Fran would win 24 games lol If you sat near me at games, you would know I certainly don't see this team with rose colored glasses either, but i also don't see the point in revisiting the downside of certain players games, over and over again.... like there is an agenda to it.

without getting into a total rip fest as it has been hashed out a number of times... a 1000 point scorer... whoever they are loses a lot of my respect when the team they are is one of the worst in that school's history... where ever that is. Especially when youre playing as a PG/SG where you must facilitate the offense... and of course while being a defensive liability
team over everything

but he will end up being a 1000 pt scorer on this level, so clearly he can play D1.... Evan could have 1000 points before January ends!! 75 points in 5 games would do it, so early Feb is more realistic, but the kid can get easy points for us, and this team desperaely needs him since he's the only guy that can create his own shot off the bounce. No one (except SF's hate mode) rips Evan more than me, IF he plays the point. He's horrible at it. Why don't we concentrate on the positives though with him? He's the fastest kid in the MAAC, and I still haven't seen anyone that can keep up with him in the open court. He's made some great passes off fast break/run outs. He just can't run a halfcourt offense. His defense has improved 100%, but is still just average. He's even rebounding this year!! Has his highest reb. avg in his three years despite playing significantly less minutes. Jimmy has gotten thru to this kid. Anyone that thinks we'd be a better team without him is nuts. With that, I'd still love to get a 6'3", instant off guard starter, that specializes in shooting the basketball, and can run the point 5-7 min a night. I can still see Evan being an offensive sparkplug off the bench his senior year, but getting less minutes than he gets this year.

I was surprised sunday when i found myself saying, "Keep Running!" when he or wright had the ball in open court... usually a recipe for disaster against Iona (getting in a track meet), but when those two pushed it, they were getting lay ups or clean looks for others.... that probably has more to do with Iona's complete lack of defense, but if that is what they give you, that is what you take.
