My biggest worry now might be Lavon's foul issues. How do we keep that kid on the court? It's the kid's first college game. Let's wait and see whether it becomes a consistent paterrn before we concern ourselves with it Mmkay?

One thing I observed ...Jimmy, like Fran is a firecracker ready to explode or joke around. And like Fran, he loves to teach his players-on what they did right and what they did wrong in any given play. You can see it now.. these players will go the EXTRA mile for him in moments notice!

My biggest worry now might be Lavon's foul issues. How do we keep that kid on the court? I was waiting to see how Lavon reacts to the refs calling so many fouls with the new focus...he will be fine ...the 1st one was a silly after he turned the ball over on the inbounds pass he tried to make up for it defending the shot...if he made a better pass he would not have fouled..he will never just let the opponent score...then he tried to take a charge and every attempt was called a block for everyone all game...that adjustment is hard for the officials....I think players will stop trying to take them if things stay as they are...so he sat for half of the 1st half after his second foul...he went back in with the 2 for a few minutes and played smart D not picking up his 3rd....but he got his 3rd and 4th fouls in the 1st 3 minutes of the 2nd half...both were bad calls IMOP...that kid tripped over the line and Lavon was near..the other was on a trap ..good news here is he went back in halfway through the half and played smart for about 5 min and did not pick up his 5th....with that said...I think he will be fine...the new rules do hurt an aggressive player like him but he told me after the game he can adjust... so don't worry KK

I loved watching JP at the time-outs. He was instructing individuals, correcting mistakes with individuals while they were fresh in the player's mind. TEACHING! Fantastic. I must say I agree with every point made by Tony tonight. Excellent. USA Today picked Lavon to be Rookie of the Year. I'm happy to say, I saw three freshmen tonight that will definitely be in the running. Wright, WOW is he the real deal, JO, he has come a long ways since the end of last season, and of course, Lavon, as good as advertised, loved watching him break the press. Win or lose, the season is going to be exciting.

Are we playing Memphis or UAlbany on Friday night? Wouldn't be surprised if we pulled out a win? This is a new era of Siena hoops!! To be serious who knows what to expect for the first real game but I think we'll be ready to go and get the W. I think UAlbany will have trouble with our press and athletic ability in the backcourt. Hopefully White's groin will be OK and he will be able to go. Go Saints!!! Serious question... What do you know or how much have you seen of ua? Handle your pressure... Can't wait... This is perhaps the most athletic ua has ever been in the back court... That's not hyperbole... Couple more days. This is why people always laugh at your obsession with being better than Siena. Stop acting like this game is your Super Bowl. If you don't win this year it should be embarassing. You're a conference champion and Siena is in a total rebuild.

My biggest worry now might be Lavon's foul issues. How do we keep that kid on the court? um, no such issued......it was a combination of a poor call by officials AND more prominently the new emphasis on taking away physical defensive play............that is going to be adjustment for ALL players at the college level, you will see more fouls called in every game and a stoppage of play quite frequently...........plus more FT's taken.........it has nothing to do with him or really anyone being that much more foul prone!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a couple were cheapies but still we can't have one of our best players only playing 16 mins in a meaningful game. With the new rules it's that much harder.

Remember too the NCAA is going cracking down on fouls not being called. This is going to effect the less experienced (big) guys like JO and Long!

Just as we talked about not putting too much credence in results of these exhibitions/scrimmages, nothing really to take out of a freshman's fouls in these games. These games are an opportunity to let everybody get adjusted to a new coach, system, rules, teammates and D1 ball in general. That said, point taken that we cannot afford to have Lavon in significant foul trouble. I don't think anybody will disagree with that.

It was a pleasure to read this thread with comments from board members who actually witnessed the players and the game.

Yes its a bit easier to get a feel for players live rather than from 2 year old video or Ken pom stats( no offense intended KK) And KK yes it was their 1st game-- not their 6th-- the games in Canada were under international rules and non NCAA refs. It is pretty normal for freshmen to go thru a learning curve early in the season on how much they can get away with without being called for a foul. I wouldn't be concerned at this point- if its happening after Christmas- then we have a problem

I have a feeling we're going to be among the MAAC leaders in fouls. We might only play 9 guys on any given night but those 9 will change among 10-11 guys depending on who's in foul trouble on any given night.
We often struggled with their quickness on defense and that led to many fouls. Quick D1 teams will get us into foul trouble. Fortunately, we have a lot of players to combat it.

I wouldn't be concerned at this point- if its happening after Christmas- then we have a problem I provide the stats cause frankly no one else provides them. It's your issue if you don't think the amount of video or games I've see of players is enough. God, I miss one game and this person hankla is firing shots over the bow. This isn't just a one game thing. This goes back to HS. He had 4 or more fouls in 12 of 25 games listed on Maxpreps for last year. There is a reason PPC talked to him about it after the game. It's something she's mentioned to me he needs to work on. I'm just putting it out there. It's incredibly obvious to me that we need him on the court as much as possible.
