This is surprising. I don’t know what it means, I don’t know how much it helps or hurts, I don’t know what we’ll do with the scholarship.
GW has one, FWIW.

Wow. This is quite late in the game for something like this.
It's a little disappointing but probably not a huge deal.
Honestly, it might hurt a bit for next year now depending on what they can still fill out the roster with but it certainly makes the team better on the boards and on D if he's not in there. A real trade off here and a surprise at this point.

Wow....shocked on the timing. I wish the kid the best but really ridiculous to announce it on July 19th.
Was really looking forward to Sloan making a sophomore jump. I think Harris starts at SF now and Manny moves to PF.

Obviously this hurts but it's not the end of the world. There are still plenty of pieces to be an incredibly good team but that remains to be seen. I wish Sloan nothing but the best going forward

Strange timing, wonder if Jordan will get his scholarship now.

Honestly, he's a great shooter it and we might now be lacking in that regard some but this makes the toughness and defense of the team that much more a cohesive strength. He's 100% the worst defensive player Siena had who was likely to be in the rotation. Probably the worst defender/rebounder in the league. This opens up the defensive possibilities.
His long term ceiling isn't that high. It could hurt some at this point for next year depending on what more we can get. However, get a kid like Dunn and who cares....you just win on D and toughness. That will be Siena's new calling card.
I prefer Ratliff's upside over Seymour's anyway. This benefits him most I think.

Bummer, at least from an offensive standpoint but I agree with the other posters that I expect our defensive pressure should be overall better now.
I also agree that the timing is a little concerning. Was he always on the fence, was there potential tampering or did he just not like the new game plan that maybe required more of a defensive effort?
Maybe we’ll eventually find out the reason but I can only assume the coaches may find a player as good or better.

Pickett 6-4 Carey 6-5 Harris 6-6 Camper 6-7 Ratliff 6-8 Sutherland 6-7
...with more perhaps impact guys on the way now or in 2020...
Either he's joining JC or he's looking for an easier path to develop his game and maintain his minutes long term. I honestly thought that Ratliff was starting to be a better option before his injury...and Sutherland may have more upside too.
If you can't drive, rebound, or defend...don't expect to keep your minutes for long. Transferring gives him time to improve and give him a chance to be a 4 year starter if he does...

Sorry to see Sloan leave, I always thought he had a good "upside" - timing can only mean one thing. Either the freshmen are beating him like a drum ( Gary and Luke) or we have another player. I’ve heard no player problems with Coach Carm ( players all seem to really like him) always heard whispers about player dislike for PW and Jimbo) So I’m pretty much ruling that out. I’m going to keep an open mind- but I strongly suspect it was a playing time issue with Sloan , in which case we may be better off in long run

I don't think it would be a 'green light to shoot issue' for Seymour. That's about the only thing he has a green light for. I think Carm is trending us back to Fran/Cooley ball. Other coaches have said it. I think, based on what is playing out and who we've targeted, he might actually be doing it. Seymour is not a Fran/Cooley player. Franklin/Basabe/Barrow/Gilbert/Hawkins/Edney/Matthews These were their type of power forwards. I think Camper is the guy at PF and Harris is the guy at SF, with Sutherland and Ratliff backing them up....all of which are tougher and better defenders.
