People wondering why it's so late. It just so happens to be AFTER they now have had a good long look at Harris and Luke Sutherland. I'm guessing the writing was on the wall

There's no way to spin this as anything other than a big loss. Yes, Sloan had issues with his game. But he was a starter, an all-rookie teamer, and deadly 3 point shooter - perhaps the best on the team. And Siena is now a lot weaker in that department. The timing is odd. If he wanted to just follow JC that could have happened in April. But he was working out with the team and hitting the weights hard. So I have to believe something changed recently like practice not going well or something. Sigh. Why can't we have nice things? Let’s see how the roster ends up. I was pro-Sloan and looking forward to see if he could make a soph jump but the ending to this chapter hasn’t been finished yet! Let’s sit tight.

In all seriousness (and not to imply Sloan won’t end up at another school) but what if a player enters the transfer portal and no one wants him? Does he then request to come back to original school? Does the original school have to take him back? I’m assuming yes he could come back if the school wanted him & hadn’t already used his ship on someone else but I’d sort of love it if a bunch of players entered looking for better places to play only to find out no one wants them them they have to go lower than they ever imagined and still aren’t happy. Not that I want this to happen to Sloan but I just get tired of all these players wanting to move after 1 or 2 seasons (for what ever the reasons - legitimate or not). I liked it better when players stayed for all four years just like I liked it better in professional sports when the team stayed intact mostly for many years (even when my teams sucked). I agree ... I get that times have changed but it doesn't make it right. Everything is me, me, me, now, now, now.... no loyalty, limited values. Not picking on Sloan, everybody does it, it's just the way it is... yada yada yada.

It just gotta say that I'm not as big of a Seymour fan after this stunt. If you're not happy fine, then leave at the end of last season. Leaving now puts the program in a tough spot to replace him. This dude had no offers and was headed to prep when Siena took a chance on him after every other school walked away. And this is how that is repayed.
Seymour took the time to think about what he wanted and after JC left and opted to stay in April. How do you turn around 3 months later, have the same conversation with yourself, and reverse course? I suspect he was getting passed by in practice by newcomers and was informed he had to expand his game or sit. A double whammy too much for him to overcome. It's the only explanation.

Didn’t read any other posts but this screams to me one of Two things:
1. Oh no this coach has no idea what he’s doing I’m outta here.
2. Oh wow I’m not going to start am I?
I think this is more likely the latter than the former.
God Speed Sloan. I liked you in all your singular talents. May you find another spot where they need an exclusive shooter.

I think the first point is ridiculous. A 19 year old who thinks this guy doesn't know what he's doing? You'd be one arrogant person to think that. I mean what's much more likely is not buying in to what the coach is doing.

Back when Harris committed I posted something to the effect of us now having a plethora of good options at the 2/3/4 and Carm having the new challenge of fostering healthy competition among players in practice while maintaining a close-knit team mindset. Sounds like the competition was a little too much for Sloan's tastes, so I'm glad he bowed out rather than hold resentment and muck up the team's chemistry.
From his perspective I can easily understand the decision. He's 19 years old coming off an all-rookie team season and he has a lot of confidence in where his game can go. Kid gets on the practice court and sees that the new recruits are already threatening his starting spot and that the new coach is playing a style based on attacking and finishing- not really part of his game. By transferring now he can find a solid fit at a school with a more 3 oriented offense and have the rest of his career to grow and star there rather than coming off the bench if he stays. If he's serious about working hard in the weight room and developing his game then the sit-out transfer year gives him a quasi-prep year to build too.
Sad to see him go but may be better for team and player both long-term.

Some of the takes on this thread make Colin Cowherd look level headed...

My guess is that it has nothing to do with Siena or the players or coaches or playing time or any of the negatives as much as it has to do with bigger opportunities that have presented themselves to him. With his length, shooting ability, and depth of shooting upside with the 3 pt line being moved back I would be very surprised after the freshmen shooting season that he had if he is making a lateral move to a place like GW. My guess is that his family has been approached by someone at a Power Conference school who told them they would be interested if he went into the transfer portal.

Gary and Luke were absolutely eating Sloan’s lunch. Wise move by his camp. There are a lot of options.

Good shooter, but no defense, no rebounding & no game inside the 3 pt line to speak of .... I’d be shocked if he’s going SEC Big10 or ACC. Look I like the kid (he was a viable 3 pt threat) but this is definitely an odd move. Looks like a family decision based on how he/they felt he would be utilized this year. His role probably became more clear once practice actually started.
