Yeah, maybe their teams will have a herpes flair up that day and be off their games.

HJ - I tend to be pro-Jimmy. I was never against his hiring and see lots of opportunity. I just think that getting whooped doesn't help a team. If we play these teams tough and keep it under 15 I'll consider it a major positive. I don't expect that. Yes, Fran's team lost by 50...but going into it there was a realistic shot at being competitive. I just don't see a 20L team with major 's being able to perform on day 1. Additionally, if Jimmy doesn't emphasize the scouting report then pack it in. Might want to lower your expectations a bit. I think if Siena is within 15 with 10 minutes to play in either of the games then it is a pretty positive experience. To finish both games within 15 would be a huge success. Last year Duke played 5 home games against low to mid majors, they won by 67, 50, 39, 20, and 13. Wisconsin actually played some quality midmajors in Buffalo, Boise St, and Green Bay and still won their games by 31, 44, 24, 24, 43, and 12. And as you can see the games tended to get closer later in the season, is even tougher early. Wisconsin will be good but last year was probably the best team they ever had. Bo Ryan is a great coach so they'll still be in the NCAA tournament and top 4 in the Big 10 (and might even still be a top 20 team) but that team isn't on the level of the last two years without Frank the tank and Decker. That said Siena might lose by 25 points or they might be very competitive against a Badgers team retooling. As far as Duke goes no expectations just have some fun and play loose. The two games that are the most important are the two in Rhode Island. If we win both of them and play well against Duke/Wisconsin then 2-2 will have people feeling pretty encouraged and more importantly the team will have a lot of confidence going forward.

I'm just hoping for a 6-0 start to the season and being ranked in the top 25 (or 10 considering we beat the #1 & 2 teams)

In today's TU: 'Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos said, "It's great for the school. I don't think I'm going to go there and go 2-0, do you?"' No coach, we don't but do you have to state it so you-centered and so definitively? At least wait until the team has a couple of practices under their belt and then say something like "We are ready to play and will leave nothing on the floor." I don't recommend putting a losing idea in the kids' heads.

Since Jimmy loves playing mind games, he's probably just throwing us off the trail (secretly he's training them to win those two games and pull off the biggest upsets if his entire career (including after Siena)).

As long as patsos doesn't pull any shenanigans I will be ok with any outcome for these two guarantee games. The program will lose money on the overall event though.

Just a couple quick thoughts while reading the above comments.
To the guys who think there were "plenty of better tournaments available", you can only go where you are invited. Siena has done a pretty good job of turning itself from Cinderella to ugly step-sister over the past 5 seasons, so I wouldn't bet too much cash on that statement being as true as you might like it to be.
Second,Jimmy wasn't asked which two opening teams he wanted play, Duke/Wisc chose Siena, Siena didn't choose them. When it was rumored to be VCU and Georgetown no one seemed too upset. Well, it could have been, but it won't be. Embrace the moment, they can only put 5 guys on the floor at a time, just like Siena.

I agree and I don't think Jimmy was kidding either when he said that is wasn't a blind draw. Sure Duke will draw against a High school team but I think ESPN and the Big 10 network had some say about the match-ups along with the two giants in this field (Duke and Wisconsin). Siena has far more cache than the other three schools. Despite our struggles the last five years this program still has been to three NCAA tournaments, won two NCAA tournament games and won a CBI title since 2007. But as the years go on we are moving further away from those glory days. It's time to starting winning again, baby.

You're dreaming if you think you'd ever get more than 100K guaranteed money from any other program. So playing the defending National Champs on ESPN, the night they hang their banner, isn't good enough for you? It is for me. A mid-major couldn't get a better slot, or more exposure than we will. Then getting to play Wisconsin. Program has blown up and gives us more great exposure. Sure the Bryant mini-tourney sucks, but it's well worth the trade off getting a shot at the 2 national title teams from last year. Hopefully we're 2-2 after those first 4 games. Yes, the TV is nice but they lucked into that, that was no guarantee when they joined the tournament they would be opening night at Duke on ESPN. No luck involved. KNEW it was Duke. KNEW the game was on ESPN. KNEW they'd get 100K. Very few teams in the country give that much guaranteed money (100K for those not following)for a game. I'd say 60K is a normal # for a top 25 to pay out. This was a great move for us. Only negative is the two games in R.I., but the upside overrides that easily.

These are great games for Siena - both for experience and national exposure! If you cant see that .. you might have hit head or need to have your head examined!

What you don't seem to be grasping is that duke plays about a dozen Siena types each year at home-- it's not that big a deal. Only Siena also has to play Wisconsin and two low majors for the same money--- couple that with the Albany fiasco and Siena better start winning games or they won't be able to afford to play at the tuc for much longer.
