www.sienasaints.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/062215aaa.htmlWow both national finalists. Jimmy was not BSing when he said Duke was a possibility. VCU jumped the gun as it turned out. I thought we were going to Georgetown so Wisconsin is a surprise. Two national TV games I'm sure Duke will be on one of the ESPN networks and Wisconsin likely on the Big 10 network. Good for the RPI - and hopefully these games will get us better as the season goes on. You never know either crazy things can happen early in the year.

Good. This will give them 2 games where it won't matter if they win or lose to just start to gel.
Nobody can get down on the team for losing to the #1 and #2 teams of the previous year to start the season. After all, it means they could still be #3 lol.
And the RPI won't be punished with a loss in either game.
And maybe, just maybe...playing elite competition will bring them up a notch for the rest of the schedule.
Playing Fordham and Loyola certainly doesn't.

Home opener for National Champions. Tickets will be hard to come by for a reasonable price, if they will be raising the National Championship banner before the game.

Best time to play these two teams - very early season. We could catch them looking down the road and being full of themselves coming into the year. Stay relatively close first half and then, who knows. OBTW, I started the "Empty S Summer Kool Aid Diet" this morning and things already are out of focus. Bring on the Devils and Badgers!

This is commonly referred to (after the fact) as a scheduling error.
This team has no business filling the Gatorade bottles for either of those teams. I love my Saints and in 2-3 years, God willing, I'd like to see us playing these guys but next year ain't the year. Those 2 games are most likely 30+ point losses. That doesn't help in any way shape or form. That's not a learning experience.
My only thought is that we're getting some $$$ out of this which Siena needs. That's the only redeeming quality...that and we should see some SportsCenter highlights.

You can't have your best opponent all year be Iona. That's what happened last year. There was not 1 top 100 Kenpom team on the schedule. Iona was 102.
There were 11 games the year before.
You have play higher to prepare. Give the kids a deeper well to draw from, otherwise they get complacent.
You lose to a Duke, Wisconsin, Purdue, or Memphis etc... you still gain confidence vs. the MAAC.
You lose to Cornell? Not so much.

What if it's only a 2 point loss? Secondly , I'm a Duke fan ever since that nice boy from Clifton Park attended.

Sure they lost Miller and Cancer but they have a lot of talent coming back and had a good recruiting class. Plus we play them out there this year.

Being an optimist (if that's OK) let's say Siena manages to finish with a 6-5 non conference record and a 13-7 MAAC record - that's 19-12 going into the MAAC ournament with the likelyhood of a decent RPI/NCAA seed should Siena win the MAAC tournament at the TUC. Plus those games just get you better, get you on TV and make some money. And who knows if you stay close late what can happen. I will say at worst we need to go 1-1 in Rhode Island - 2-0 would be ideal of course.

I'd just rather have it be Duke than them. It's all about psyche management until the MAAC games start...both of the team and of Sienahoops.com. The longer you keep the hope of a great season alive the more confident the team will play and the happier the fans will be. You lose to a few easies early and the vultures start circling on November 18th...and it's gonna be a long season. Maybe that still happens by Thanksgiving anyway but at least it's a few more days of potential peace. With 3 frosh guards, I'd rather they at least get some game time before they're expected to win a game.

From a frosh psyche perspective.
How would you feel after your first career game?
1.) A. I had a bad game against Duke. B. I had a bad game against Vermont.
2.) A. I had a good game against Duke. B. I had a good game against Vermont.
Which one in each scenario leaves you with the most confidence going into your next game?

It takes big balls to schedule teams of this ilk. Good for Jimmy and the boys.

Sad to say were the Saints able to pull an upset in one of these games, some posters on this forum would be devastated!

The vast majority of Siena fans have complained about the rpi and our schedule. Jimmy is now accommodating the fans and giving them what they want. National exposure, including TV, I love it! Throw in the recruiting angle, it's great news.
