It takes big balls to schedule teams of this ilk. Good for Jimmy and the boys. If you can't beat teams, get beat by better teams. That's what I always say. That's why last year was even tougher to stomach we not only lost but we lost to some pretty bad teams (Fordham, Cornell) and a bunch of average teams like Vermont, Radford - heck UMass was the best non-league game last year and their RPI was 84. Surprisingly despite a brutal year we did have a couple of decent non-conference wins in St. Bonaventure (with most of the team intact) and Bucknell (no Long in that game). I'm not saying next year's team is anywhere close to the 2008-2009 team but that team played Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Kansas - lost all the games but got stronger as a result and eventually took down Ohio State in the NCAA tournament winning 27 games. Competition makes you better that's pretty obvious.

Sad to say were the Saints able to pull an upset in one of these games, some posters on this forum would be devastated! I think reading other people's minds and voicing/amplifying what you "read" is not one of your strengths. Winning, as so many have said, will give pause to those, me included, that don't see a strong winning coach in place right now. Winning will be due to several factors - our player's abilities and our coaching staff's abilities - we will see what will be. He has said he needs to change - I'm hoping he's able to and that the changes are effective.

Cameron only holds 9800. This game should be played at the TUC so Siena fans wont be shut out.

The vast majority of Siena fans have complained about the rpi and our schedule. Jimmy is now accommodating the fans and giving them what they want. National exposure, including TV, I love it! Throw in the recruiting angle, it's great news. This isn't what I want. This is low major scheduling. Siena is now a low major, so I guess it is what the admin wants, but this is not a mid major move. A mid major does not enter this type of tournament (hence the reason why there are no mid majors in it). Siena should be entering neutral site tournaments or not at all. One guarantee game is okay, but this tournament is absurd and gets Siena nowhere.

Is Siena getting any guarantee cash for the two ass kickings they are going to take?

Regardless of how these games turn out, the kids will learn from both. Cameron is a very special place. I saw Duke play Georgia Tech there a number of years ago (was in Greensboro with Siena to play UNCG). The place is electric and filled with history, etc. Siena will benefit on the RPI side and we can all hope that we need and use that help at season's end. Playing in front of the Cameron Crazies should also prepare the team, especially our newcomers, for our road games at St. Peters, Iona, Manhattan, etc.!!!! It might even neutralize the impact of the Marist band as they sit and play on our bench at McCann.

Jimmy basically scheduled 2 games where he won't get criticized for losing...he didn't schedule 2 challenging up games that will be a learning experience. Yes, last year's scheduled totally sucked which is why 20 losses is that much worse but folks there's a happy medium between "no top 100 teams" and "2 top 10 teams".
Fairfield used to schedule these types of games. I don't recall it ever making a difference. Look, I'm all in favor of this type of thing when we have a team like Fran's year 3 and year 4 teams. Those teams had a fighting chance of making a game of it and maybe stealing one. This team does not. There's a very real chance we'll be down 25 at the half in both games. If you think that's a great recruiting situation or a learning experience, well, I disagree.

UAlbany is giving us .25 for their game **I can't believe people crying over playing Duke! lmao Just say you hate the coach and no matter who he schedules you disapprove. Playing at the premier program in the country, for 100K, on ESPN, is NEVER a bad thing.

The big factor is what does it do to the team's psyche if they are blown out by 30+ points. They're going to face NBA type players. Our defense was so porous last year and Lavonn and Imoh foul so frequently, don't expect that to change. We don't have the defensive talents of Edwin, Alex, Kenny, Rossiter, and Ronald to rely on. I think playing good mid majors like Butler, VCU, No. Iowa would serve the team better. I like IndianSaint will be staunchly pulling for Siena regardless.

Regardless of the point result against Duke and Wisconsin, I want to see the fight in this team. If we're fighting as best as we can against these programs, it will tell what type of season we'll have.
