He worked just as hard in Greensboro He did with one of the smallest budgets in D1-- he couldn't come up to Philly and recruit often- he was forced to play 4 guarantee games a year -- despite that he managed to stay respectable there something nobody has been able to since. All I'm saying it wasn't all luck- no staff at Siena worked harder than Fran's did- they were very well prepared. Bottom line is good coaches have been able to win here at Siena- bad coaches ( Beyer Lanier and Mitch ) all had excuses. All I've heard from Jimmy so far is excuses- he has this year to change my mind, or I'll be leading charge to replace him ( well maybe not leading since several already seem to have made up their mind) Fran has taken all four of the D1 teams he coached from the pits to the dance in 3 or 4 years - that's what consistent hard work gets you. There is no comparison between Fran and Jimmy - I get that. I just use Fran as a "standard" for what an exceptional coach can do, and do it at all levels of the D1 game, and I, this shouldn't surprise anyone, want Siena to be the best they can be. Over the last 5 years, our best has not been good! While I can understand your read on my posts, I don't want Jimmy to be fired YET - but I would love for him to actually do what he has said he will do - CHANGE. He might surprise himself with the results and then again.....

You guys will never be happy if you compare every coach to Fran. He had unmatched success here. IF that type of run happens again we'll be lucky, just like he was. Teams like that don't get built without some luck. The Kenny, Ronald and Alex signings were all low key, no competiiton gets, and they all turned into HR's. That’s not entirely true..Kenny yes—Ronald. His recruitment was heating up—Alex no way – he was fairly highly rated had a handful of mid major offers going into his senior season of high school . LaSalle was extremely interested in Alex- but at 6’5” he was a B level recruit for them, they wanted Alex to wait until spring to sign – Fran was able to land him despite the fact two weeks earlier he got a verbal from Edwin- Alex was quite the feather in Fran’s cap ..Having said that I agree it pointless to compare Jimmy to Fran. I will saying amazing how the more prepared , the harder you work ( like Fran did) amazing how ”lucky” you get And by most accounts (including Fran's on occasion) the hardest working, best prepared member of the staff was... Mitch. We see how that works out sometimes.

Mitch is one of my favorite Siena Assistants we've ever had. I can't think of any other Assistant that could break down an opponent and/or come up with a game plan.

I remember a conversation I had in the fall of 2006, well before the early signing period. The focus was on five players: Ubiles, Brad Sheehan (GA Tech via Shaker), Franklin, Cory Magee and Dan Geriot (6'8 from suburban Philly, started at Richmond and scored 1000+). Knowing there were then three available scholarships, I asked who Fran would want if he could have any three. He thought for a minute and responded Ubiles, Geriot and Sheehan.
There is always luck involved.

I've heard rumors that Siena is in financial distress (most colleges are in the United States today) and some have even wondered about the administration's commitment to basketball especially after Father Kevin left. However using basketball state data Siena spend over $2.8M dollars last year first in the MAAC. It put them at 118 (of 351 teams) nationally. Siena would spend the second most money on basketball in the CAA (Drexel is 116 overall) second in the MAC (Ohio) third in the powerful MVC (behind only national power Wichita State and Bradley). Siena's budget would also put them squarely in the middle of the Mountain West conference. Teams like George Washington (113) and George Mason (117) are practically exactly on par with Siena (Siena also ahead of Murray State, Davidson, St. Bonaventure,St. Mary's). Siena spends more than a few CUSA and American Athletic teams too. Also right in the ballpark of several A10 programs. Now you can see why Siena fans were rightly ripping Jimmy after he said Siena was on the same level with UAlbany (236) and Vermont (240). Time to start getting a bang for our buck. Name another mid-major that pays $1,000,000 a year in rent for their "home games." I didn't realize we paid that much for the TUC. Do you know what the net on that is? That is, how much do we 'make' from being at the TUC? I know it's an inexact science comparing renting an arena to playing in a home arena in which we might have to pay mortgage, utilities, staff, etc., but I would be surious to know what we net from the TUC.

It used to be Siena got the first x,xxx tickets, after that all tickets were split 50-50. TU kept all parking and concession money. That was one of the arguments for the tarps. Drawing 9K versus 7,000 wasn't a huge difference in money for Siena as the tickets were split with TUC at that point. But getting the season ticket holder base up an extra thousand would be huge as that's number was still until the threshold for keeping all the money. That was 8 or 9 years ago though so there's a very good chance that has changed. Siena might just cut TU Center a check for the 14 nights and keep money to themselves.
