According to everything published so far, the only candidates left are the cheapest and least qualified. Unless it's all smoke and mirrors. Who do you want Tom Izzo and Shaka Smart? Toole is notch top... Patsos is very solid. I'd like Rhoades to have D1 HC experience but his resume still is very solid. What was Fran's resume when he got the Siena job? At least you're done humping Paulsen. I don't care what Fran's resume 8 years ago, conference realignment wasn't going on then. Of course, his resume was still better than the 3 perceived finalists now.

The way I see it Siena can’t lose
Toole – the young up and comer. By all accounts very good recruiter, good coach his teams play up-tempo. Is good with Fans Boosters, Students and Media
Patsos- dude turned around the worst team in D1- at the hardest place to recruit in MAAC- the local media fan base and boosters would love him
Rhodes – looks good on paper, and Havoc would play great in Albany, a lot of upside but probably the biggest risk with no D1 head coaching experience
I like Toole the best but I can live with any of the 3-all would be massive upgrades from program wrecker

For those who didn't check the link, Britton Lee is player in question, who apparently tweeted he doesn't want to go to RMU if Toole isn't there. Per ESPN (FWIW) highest rated recruit in their class. 5'11" SG 68 rating from Philly. As I mentioned in another thread, Jeremiah Worthem (6'6" Forward, 65 rating) is also in the RMU recuiting class, who I believe Siena had some casual interest in during recruiting. Interesting, their board seems to be in consensus that Siena would be great for Toole.

Rhodes comes w no strings attached ... RMU is on record they're willing to sweeten the pot to keep Toole - will the attraction for higher calibre conference potential be the draw ... W Patsos signing multi-year extension last year will a buyout be needed or did he put in a kick out clause ... Certainly everything will be weighed by both Siena and candidates

Tony, I'm sure you would agree St. Peter's is the toughest league school to recruit to. I kind of wish John Dunne was in Patsos position. I think our search would be over if that was the case.

Explain to me why then. He took over a team that had just went to 2 NCAA's , he's gone to the NIT, he has one year as an assistant in the Patriot, 3 years assistant in the NEC, 3 years head coach in the NEC. I want Siena to move to the highest possible level, I don't think he's the guy to do it. I have rational reasons, all you can say is I'm out of my mind?

I agree. He must have some connection to Patsos.

^ 1 MAAC Tournament championship in 2012 and 0 1st place finishes in 9 years. Not exactly a raging success! Are you related or his agent? Dude, the MAAC championship was spoken for for great many of those years as I recall.... That's your excuse! So we will settle and hire a guy that we know isn't as good as Fran! Patsos hasn't beaten a BCS type school in nine years. That's pathetic. Hire the young gun. Coach Toole all the way!

Singelais' latest blog:
The search for the next Siena men's basketball coach is down to three candidates.
Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole came to campus on Thursday to interview for the opening.
Loyola head coach Jimmy Patsos and Virginia Commonwealth associate head coach Mike Rhoades are scheduled to visit Loudonville early next week, according to multiple sources familiar with the process.
After that, Siena should be ready to hire the 16th coach in program history, very possibly by the end of next week, before the Final Four.
A source said Siena reserved the right to look elsewhere but added that is unlikely.
