If pitino is one and done so be it. What are we afraid of, success? Patsos will be available next year too. Agree, I don't know why we would actively choose a less impressive candidate in hopes of holding onto an inferior coach for longer.

Jeff Goodmanþ@GoodmanCBS37m
Been told 3 leaders at Siena are Andy Toole, Jimmy Patsos and Mike Rhoades. There was interest in Richard Pitino, but he will stay at FIU.

Patsos is the next coach, looks like MTS will start eating at Barcelona.

Toole is the perfect combo. He is young like Pitino. Has won like Pitino, actually has a better resume and most importantly, doesn't have the Pitino name. Pitino would positively be out after 2 years, no doubt and his name would get him those offers. Toole on the other hand should be a solid 4 year guy at least. Even if he wins big first 2 years, he doesn't have that coaching pedigree/backers to get him the big time job automatically. He will need to win at his next job like he was doing at RMU before moving up, and it will have to be sustained. Not a one year hit and gone. Best hire. Hire Patsos.

Yea I see way more upside in Toole than I do in Patsos. So if they are looking for someone who can take the program to the next level I see it as Toole. IF they want someone who will stick around and maybe be able to get the program back to Fran status I would hire Patsos. But hiring Patsos seems like a lateral move. Rarely do you see a team hire a coach from the same conference to be their next coach. Even the power conferences usually do not do this.

According to everything published so far, the only candidates left are the cheapest and least qualified. Unless it's all smoke and mirrors.

Unless it's all smoke and mirrors. Who do you want Tom Izzo and Shaka Smart? Toole is notch top... Patsos is very solid. I'd like Rhoades to have D1 HC experience but his resume still is very solid. What was Fran's resume when he got the Siena job?
