HJ - we won a PIG game. C'mon man. Deane beat Stanford Fran beat Vandy and Ohio State That's winning tournament games. Lanier could ID talent but he wasn't an overall good coach. He had some problem players as I recall as well. I also recall the players winning that 4 game MAAC run by essentially having a mutiny and disregarding the coach (this could be a fallacy...I don't have first hand knowledge). He wasn't the worst but certainly wasn't one of the better coaches. And if he beat a top 20 team, the credit would have went to Prosper for "going rogue!" lol

As I recall Archbold went medieval and set the tournament record for points scored. Might still be the record. Lot of talent on that team but Rob just didn't seem to know what to do with it. They would romp through this year's maac competition.

You bet, the PIG or ncaa first 4 counts as a tournament win…..plus the school also gets a $$$$ share for it as well …….. . any win should never be diminished in the big dance…..

I mean, I get it doesnt compare to beating a top 20 team, but its an opportunity to win an NCAA game and we did it. We also gave Maryland a decent game in the 1 vs 16 game.

He has had a very good coaching career since leaving Siena and has done well at a head coach (again) at Georgia State and SMU. I would take Rob over Carm any day.

Lanier was exceptional as a recruiter at even the highest level, dude could spot talent..........remember at Siena, he got Jack McCLinton was a MAAC ROY then went on to play at Miami- FL only to become 1st team all ACC....plus in the same class he got Al Fisher who went on to Kent St only to be the POY as a Sr in the MAC (mid-american conference) which is a much higher league than the MAAC.........add on he also got Tay Fisher who we know flourished here in a terrific role off the bench with scoring punch from 3pt land and who later went on to become a Harlem Globetrotter............

He recruited great guards, no doubt. Getting to the dance as a play-in #16 seed, yeah, OK we were there. Sorry, that just doesn't count as much to me. Just showing up is what we used to laugh at UA for, now some of you trumpet it like it was an elite 8 appearance. That's Jimmy P "3 in March" kinda thinking. To me that's Looooow major. Yes, Siena currently occupies LM status but I'd like to think we can elevate above that to at least where we were (respectable MM).

Yes ! we still have a framed pic of Prosper dunking on Maryland -and Siena up a few points! attended that one and the Maryland crowd was actually very respectful (unlike the Ohio State game at Dayton where we were def not feeling the love- essentially patted down like criminals; guy reached into my purse and snatched a small post size sign and ripped it up.) Yup whole team went rogue when we beat Maryland- only way to win...

The recall that many of you long time fans have is amazing! I've been around for all those years and enjoyed all those moments, but I certainly don't have the memory you guys do. Very impressive!

PIG games are a little different now that 11-seeds are also PIG games. I'd argue, that if you win the MAAC (with a respectable record) and are still in the PIG, that's a league issue of paramount importance. This is why "3 in March" or "MAAC is a new season" type thinking is risky. Sure, it may get you to the dance but the matchup won't be favorable.

I remember watching on TV, Billy Packer had the color commentary. He was impressed with " Siena's tall, rangy, players" If we could have stopped Mateen Cleeves from 3 we could have had a huge upset. That was no chump Siena team.

The Siena fans had our thunderstix confiscated in the stands at that game.
