Our opponent today just signed Kam McGusty, who was the leading scorer on Miami’s Elite Eight team. Not sure if he’ll play today, but this is another step up in competition.

I’m not as optimistic as some after watching this.

How can anyone make an intelligent assessment of a team or its players playing in a foreign country in August is beyond me. Pros have a difficult adjusting over the first month or so. Siena has been there a week. But you can tell from their performance that they can't do better than 4th place in the MAAC. Maybe third if they are lucky. I feel sorry for the players who have to perform for the likes of some of you. Maybe I misused the word intelligent I would also like to remind everyone what Michael Baer said during his post game interview. He said that in the five days they were sightseeing they only practiced once before playing this game. So Carm has these kids bonding and living a maybe once in a lifetime experience. He's not worried or pissed off that an excellent shooter like Platek just shot 3 for 11 from the field. He's smart enough to know that once the kids get back to Siena (U.S.A.) into a regimented routine and practice schedule that the team's shooting % will reflect that. Some people don't seem to understand what this trip is really all about. Let's all of us use some common sense here.

Opposition showed great ball movement actually a clinic on how to do it. Are zone defenses allowed? Hoping for a better showing in the second half. The opposition has obviously played together a lot more than the visitors have.

Regarding the comment: “I'm failing to see how Eley and Platek is better than Rogers, Hopkins, and Gaines.” IMO Eley is already more athletic than any of those three and only has potential to be better than any of those players. We saw those players max potential last season and I think Eley has a higher ceiling but may take a year or two to reach. Ans Gary Harris was more athletic than all four of them so your point based on athleticism isn’t that valid Is your statement based on something that makes you believe that Eley has low basketball IQ? I haven’t seen/heard anything to that effect with Eley; therefore with his athleticism, untapped ceiling, and avg or better basketball IQ I believe he’ll be better than any of those three by Jr year.

I feel sorry for the players who have to perform for the likes of some of you. Maybe I misused the word intelligent The playing group is going to be mostly guys that played last year. The only newcomer that is going to be a major impact player is Eley. Platek we only had for a few games and his return will help quite a bit but he's mostly a known quantity. I'm failing to see how Eley and Platek is better than Rogers, Hopkins, and Gaines. The only way this team could match what it did last year is for McCollum to become the real deal. It is nice to see that Gribben and Tekin might be diamonds in the rough and develop down the line but they aren't going to help us beat Iona this year and they aren't going to help us win in Orlando this year. I always put extra emphasis on the years we get to play in Orlando, is such a great opportunity to get to play big schools on a neutral court that you otherwise don't get outside of the NCAA (and look how St Peter's took advantage of that and put their name on the map). Disappointing to me we didn't get those two extra guys we so badly need and instead are burning those scholarships on Gaines and Owens. Throw in another scholarship or two that are questionable and we will be giving major minutes to Baer and Johnson who are nice role players but not guys you want to depend on. Like I said, that's the recipe for a team battling between the 3rd and 6th seeds. Would love to be proven wrong! It's understandable that you cannot see how Eley and Platek (I'd throw in McCollum as the third replacement) is better than Rogers, Hopkins, and Gaines. You have yet to see a comparable sample of their body of work together compared to how much you saw of the latter three. So I think any comparisons are premature at this point. I personally think that Eley, Platek, and McCollum will end up proving to be better ball handlers, quicker, more athletic, and just as good shooters while being better pure scorers as the other three. I predict where the new group will prove lacking compared to their forebears is overall toughness and defense.

With JJ at point it often looked like Gaines was on the floor. The smack down today looked like the guys were on a wine tasting tour before the game or at least Carm was. I didn’t see anything to promote optimism for this season. I’m glad there’s still a lot of time to practice.

Tough game for the Saints against the best team they played in Italy. Back to back games and been in Italy for over a week probably had them a little gassed.
Good to see Elye play well after a tough game.
2-1 on the trip with a positive point differential.
Lots to improve on but without our starting PG some good things to build on.
Safe travels back home for the team!!

I swear people just want to be miserable.

Eley could have a good year as a freshman.
Liked that Gridden and Tekin perhaps could provide relief.
Reminder...no McCollum, Kellier (visa), and Owens.

Easy to blame JJ and the new kids, but Billups had 2 pts and 1 reb in 20 min, Platek had 0 pts in 13 min. I wonder if Carm limited their minutes to avoid injuries and give the other guys more time to show what they can do vs good competition. Eley and Baer did the best of the bunch today.
