I think Carm is looking to stabilize the roster. My bet is he feels foreign players will be much less likely to jump into the portal. The question is how good are these kids and does a stable, but mediocre roster help? We'll see. Well we’ve all seen what happens when we’ve attempted to hire coaches for stability and worrying about turnover if too successful. How’d that work?

I think what you are seeing with this class is with the exception of Eley, this class will not challenge anyone currently on the team for minutes. Hope I'm wrong. (Personally I think Mason and other walk-on- not Gridden- will hopefully challenge for time.) With exception of the two sophomores and Stormo I don’t feel anyone on the current roster should be challenging for time. Maybe Platek. Johnson, Baer and Kellier are just not good.

If it is really true that LaSalle wanted this kid then I guess we have to be happy with it. I'm a little skeptical but will give Carm the benefit of the doubt (for now).

Kellier should be better playing in his natural position.

Owens hadn’t played in over a year, two knee surgeries before 20 so no clue what we get out of him if he plays and Eley, yea no clue with him either. I’m not high on either guy as freshman in the MAAC against teams with a high number from the portal. Going to be a tough year in Loudonville.

There will be “?’s” for sure but I don’t think too many MAAC teams will have a better starting 5 than McCollum, Platek, Billups, Kellier and Stormo. Lots of “?’s” coming off the bench but I’m confident that at least one of Eley and/or Owens will be a solid 1st guard/wing off the bench. Baer is a serviceable 4/5 coming off the bench and then a bunch of “?’s.” I would have definitely preferred if Carm had provided 1 or 2 better answers to those “?’s” but it is premature to write off guys that we haven’t seen.

Relieves nothing, it’s a wasted scholarship. We desperately need a 4/5 and another CG / PG, two kids who are play ready & can hit the ground running. This pickup isn’t a need he’s a role guy and a wait and see developmental project. Watch how this season plays out if God forbid we have any issue with McCollum or Stormo. Pretty sure I’ve been saying for a few weeks we were signing a 3/4. And signing a freshman in that spot is absolutely a need with 4 guys at that spot graduating. Either posters like you or Carm will look like an idiot in about 8 months. Only accountability on side of that coin though. Right someone will look bad. This is Carm's livelihood. He has to be right. On the board if someone is wrong who cares? I'm keeping an open mind. Welcome to Siena, Sveinn! One one player to announce and coach still. www.ncsasports.org/mens-basketball-recruiting/international/reykjavik/menntasklinn--reykjavk/sveinn-bi-birgissonSiena roster so far Sr/Grad: J. Stormo A. Platek M. Baer J. Johnson A. Gaines ** Junior: J. Kellier Sophomore: J. Billups J. McCallum Freshmen: T. Owens (RS) M. Eley Y. Tekin S. Birgisson Walk-on for next year, scholarship in 2023-24 - B. Coyle K. Gribben

Two of those starters are coming off surgeries and one has concussion issues. We started last year like the walking wounded & it ended the same way. We don’t have the proper depth. I’m betting at some point next year we’ll (board & Carm) will be discussing whether or not Gaines can be resurrected off the scrap heap and made available to play. Bank on it!

That’s why I wish Carm would have answered the “?’s” with more definitive answers. I’m just pointing out that on paper, we have a solid 7, if they hold up health-wise.

May work out if he progresses faster than Willem Brandwijk (now playing professionally in Netherlands) … we may be okay.

Watched 10 minutes of the video. He had 1, and I’ll give him a half on another, dunks at the beginning of the video, then no others (even on a couple of breakaways), so not exactly an athletic leaper. His 3 point shot (right down to the 1 handed release) and his entire game, reminds me of Baer. Seems to me he could be a serviceable 8-9th man, but not an impact player next year or in the future. If this guy comes in on par with Baer from day 1, I’ll be ECSTATIC!!! At this point in Baer’s career, he’s a solid 7-9 guy for Siena without much room for improvement. The Iceman, like all players who never played basketball in this country, likely has a steep learning curve ahead of him so if he comes in as a solid 7-9 role guy in his freshman year, I’m confident in his ability to be all-MAAC by his junior year. All that said, it’s impossible to tell at this point how he’ll turn out and I agree with many on here that there were probably many other players available for the taking that are not such gambles. Just to clarify….I said he could become a serviceable 8-9th man, but that wasn’t next year. I meant in a couple of years. The bigger issue is that we weren’t good enough last year to win the league/tournament. We lost our 2 best players (Rogers and Gaines), an important contributor in Hopkins, and with the talent we are adding we have regressed. I want Carm to recruit guys that can challenge and possibly beat out our best players. Instead it feels like we are trying to build the end of our bench and we haven’t upgraded the front of the bench.
