He was apparently pointed to us via Kenny Hasbrouck.
Not sure if that helps at all though.

I think the way I’d frame this signing is: The *idea* of this kid is pretty intriguing and fits a need. Guys with his size and length who can dribble, pass and shoot are a hot commodity. Runs the floor well, can shoot the three, has a frame you can put weight on. Blocked shots at a good rate in FIBA comp. Plus, we have a bunch of guys at his position graduating in a year, so you’re looking for long term answers. Is *this* particular kid good? It’s hard to know, for the reasons posted above. Don’t really know the level of competition, history of kids from there moving up, etc. I personally kinda like the tape, but again if he’s playing against future plumbers and insurance salesmen I like it less lol. I believe he was being recruited by a couple other MMs and an elite D2 program, if he’s the kid I heard something about around banquet time when Carm was teasing this signing. That might assuage some fears. Time will tell… Relieves nothing, it’s a wasted scholarship. We desperately need a 4/5 and another CG / PG, two kids who are play ready & can hit the ground running. This pickup isn’t a need he’s a role guy and a wait and see developmental project. Watch how this season plays out if God forbid we have any issue with McCollum or Stormo.

Welcome to the team Sveinn. I hope you play well enough to make us all learn how to properly spell and pronounce your name.

Pretty sure I’ve been saying for a few weeks we were signing a 3/4. And signing a freshman in that spot is absolutely a need with 4 guys at that spot graduating. Either posters like you or Carm will look like an idiot in about 8 months. Only accountability on side of that coin though.

Certainly not a difference maker from the looks of it. We'll see how it plays out. I don't see him challenging for minutes this year.

Watched 10 minutes of the video. He had 1, and I’ll give him a half on another, dunks at the beginning of the video, then no others (even on a couple of breakaways), so not exactly an athletic leaper. His 3 point shot (right down to the 1 handed release) and his entire game, reminds me of Baer. Seems to me he could be a serviceable 8-9th man, but not an impact player next year or in the future. If this guy comes in on par with Baer from day 1, I’ll be ECSTATIC!!! At this point in Baer’s career, he’s a solid 7-9 guy for Siena without much room for improvement. The Iceman, like all players who never played basketball in this country, likely has a steep learning curve ahead of him so if he comes in as a solid 7-9 role guy in his freshman year, I’m confident in his ability to be all-MAAC by his junior year. All that said, it’s impossible to tell at this point how he’ll turn out and I agree with many on here that there were probably many other players available for the taking that are not such gambles.

Not having been to either location but from what I have read and heard Iceland is full of greenery but Greenland is full of ice. I understand that Iceland is a popular vacation location. One of my wife's cousins who enjoys himself (bachelor) was headed there but trip called due to pandemic. People on this board due to pessimism give up their tickets but still post om this board hoping to depress every fan up to Indian Saint.

I think Carm is looking to stabilize the roster. My bet is he feels foreign players will be much less likely to jump into the portal. The question is how good are these kids and does a stable, but mediocre roster help? We'll see.

Kid looks pretty good to me from the video you posted - nice handle and good footwork inside. I think I saw somewhere he shot the three at a 39% clip. What's not to like? He apparently had an A-10 offer, so someone besides Carm liked what they saw. Will he be an impact player day 1? No. Few frosh are, especially big men. But I think he can be a contributor in 1 or 2 years as intended. Plenty of guys at his positions for next season, so this is preparing for the future. I think everyone is disappointed because they wanted instant stars recruited from the portal. Clearly Siena is going in another direction going back to good old fashioned 4 year players. Perhaps they're sick and tired of turning over half the roster every year. The program didn't lose a single one of last year's talented frosh class to transfer this season. That's a win in this era. Let's see if we can keep that up. And everyone targeting international players as unfit for the US game doesn't know what they're talking about. St. Mary's has been building its program around such players for two decades and has it down to a science. This season's NCAA team had 7 international players on it. They had two Aussies, two players from Estonia, two from New Zealand and one from Lithuania. I'll gladly take an international roster if it gets Siena to where that program is.

Not sure they’re a good guage of anything.

I think what you are seeing with this class is with the exception of Eley, this class will not challenge anyone currently on the team for minutes.
Hope I'm wrong.
(Personally I think Mason and other walk-on- not Gridden- will hopefully challenge for time.)
