Eley? Owens? Kellier should be better playing in his natural position. Platek not "good?" Hmmmm Platek didn't really blow the doors off the MAAC in his few games... I want him to kill it but he's small and coming off one of the worst injuries in the sport. I feel like we're putting a lot of faith in him to be amazing.

If he can just do what he was doing last year it will be a big help.

In a text, Maciariello said he discovered Birgisson through former Siena star Kenny Hasbrouck. Pablo Bertone, a former professional teammate of Hasbrouck, now plays with Birgisson on Valur, a team in Iceland's top league. Birgisson chose Siena over La Salle. "I just saw that he signed," Hasbrouck texted. "He played with Bertone in Iceland and said that he was a great teammate with a very bright future. I don’t much about him besides that he’s a 6’8 athletic wing. I hope he can help us out for years to come!"

Platek doesn’t seem to be the player that WOWS you, He’s no Nico Clareth. He seems to be a very steady player with high b-ball IQ who plays within himself. He also doesn’t seem to rely on explosiveness or athleticism to be effective. If he did, I’d be much more concerned about his Achilles. If he can stay healthy/on the court, I see Platek as a 10-14 ppg type guy that takes care of the ball and doesn’t turn it over much. Possibly 3 team all-MAAC. I could be wrong but that’s what I see after having watched him in limited minutes.

Who knows how he looks post surgery.

Unfortunately his time was limited.

But you focus on Kenny’s comment about not knowing much about our recruit and that Kenny is wishing Siena well. SMH

Eley? Owens? Kellier should be better playing in his natural position. Owens hadn’t played in over a year, two knee surgeries before 20 so no clue what we get out of him if he plays and Eley, yea no clue with him either. I’m not high on either guy as freshman in the MAAC against teams with a high number from the portal. Going to be a tough year in Loudonville. Why do you care you've bragged about giving up your tickets.

Kenny essentially clarified, he linked Carm to Sevinn but he has no first hand knowledge of his ability, & he’s going on a recommendation from a former teammate. He may pan out, may not. This kid put up pedestrian numbers playing ball in Iceland. If he was killing it, I can see getting excited. I can only go by the info available. Video clips look ok but the level of competition is suspect. It’s the same reason I’m skeptical about Tekin and Gribben’s. I hope all three of these kids kill it here. Basketball in Iceland is ranked even in popularity with handball. It’s the equivalent of Hockey in Mexico. Maybe Carm is the next Bob McKillop, and Birgisson is the next Jon Axel Gudmundsson & Siena is the next Davidson😉. One can only hope!

Kid looks pretty good to me from the video you posted - nice handle and good footwork inside. I think I saw somewhere he shot the three at a 39% clip. What's not to like? He apparently had an A-10 offer, so someone besides Carm liked what they saw. Will he be an impact player day 1? No. Few frosh are, especially big men. But I think he can be a contributor in 1 or 2 years as intended. Plenty of guys at his positions for next season, so this is preparing for the future. I think everyone is disappointed because they wanted instant stars recruited from the portal. Clearly Siena is going in another direction going back to good old fashioned 4 year players. Perhaps they're sick and tired of turning over half the roster every year. The program didn't lose a single one of last year's talented frosh class to transfer this season. That's a win in this era. Let's see if we can keep that up. And everyone targeting international players as unfit for the US game doesn't know what they're talking about. St. Mary's has been building its program around such players for two decades and has it down to a science. This season's NCAA team had 7 international players on it. They had two Aussies, two players from Estonia, two from New Zealand and one from Lithuania. I'll gladly take an international roster if it gets Siena to where that program is. I like the idea of bringing in as a 22 year old freshman for 4 years into our program. 4 years of development in a DI training facility with our professional staff. It should be interesting to see how this works out.

Point of my post was that KH doesn’t have any first hand info on this kid and has never personally seen him play. The info was passed along as a recommendation based on a 3rd party’s assessment. Mo White was a 6’ 3 “ athletic guard😉

Kenny didn't have to say anything, but I can only guess that he made the referral from somebody he trusted and then our staff did more research than any of us have. Who knows? We'll find out soon enough, but I don't disagree that it could take some time for him to develop. If he blossoms in a year or 2, would you say it's a good signing?

Like I said before I don’t have issue with anyone of these in and of itself as a developmental project / experiment but we now have 3, 2 on scholarship and 1 more pending. The one expecting to backup McCollum makes me nervous. This approach has been used successfully by programs like St Mary’s & Davidson so I guess we’ll see if our international connections are up to snuff.
