Carm has been very clear that he only wants guys who want to be at Siena. If you were offered in summer 2021, visited in September 2021, and still haven't decided as of March 2022, then you aren't really interested. So I don't blame Carm if he's moved on. Tice has 10 offers. Only one of them has come since last summer. This means the table has been set for him for some time. He's clearly holding out for a higher offer that probably isn't coming. 8 months have been expended recruiting this dude. How much longer would you guys wait before moving on knowing all this? To HJ's example: I too will chase the pretty girl who says no the first time - to a point. But there comes a time when I take the hint, cut my losses, and move on to someone who actually wants to date me. The best advice I ever got was this: You shouldn't have to convince someone to love you. That feeling is either there or it's not. I believe Carms quote last year that we only want kids that want to come here was directed at Tice. I get that, but it’s possible the kid likes Siena but just wants to see all his options before making a decision? If Carm won 3 MAAC tournaments in a row and an A10 school made him an offer but there were Power 5 schools with openings and interest, don’t you think he is going to listen to them before making a decision? In recruiting you have to bury your ego and work harder to convince a player he should want you as much as you want him. If for nothing else, if he goes higher and isn’t happy and goes into the portal, the first coach he calls is you. As for the portal and it being bad for college basketball, just ask yourself what your opinion would be if you were the player. Why should a coach, an AD, a school president or even a professor be allowed to jump to a school and do their job right away but a player has to sit? As a fan and alumni I hate it, but it’s the right thing for the players.

First off dump the “I want kids who want to be @ Siena” nonsense…. Great slogan but that’s where it should stop, & don’t get offended when trying to “woo” a kid and he doesn’t say yes while visiting or immediately after. Getting a player here is WORK and a big time sales job, make the pitch and keep selling your vision about how important this recruit is going to be in accomplishing it! Sales pros generally have an I don’t take no for an answer attitude to go along having thick skin. Stay in touch!

I believe I’ve already discussed this in the past. Tice went to South Kent this year after having his last basketball season canceled because of COVID at Newburgh. Obviously South Kent opened new recruiting doors for him and as a 17 year old kid, he wanted to take the opportunity to see what was out there. Doesn’t mean his interest in Siena was not there. Siena hasn’t actively recruited him other then cursory stay in touch since high school hoops season got into full swing. They should stay involved with him because Siena would firmly be in the mix. I really like Carm, I want my alma mater to be relevant again, and him to be the guy to take us there. But at times his stubbornness gets in the way

They've been on Tice since last summer and he took his official visit to Siena in September. If he was interested he would have committed by now. I'd say it's more likely he's moved on from Siena. Dude wants to go higher. Its like chasing a pretty girl. Just because she says no the first time, doesnt mean you stop trying to take her out. These kids like to get courted. Feel wanted. IF he's a top priority recruit, which I think he should be, we need to keep in touch throughout the season, and press more during live periods. Something tells me the "bigger school" thing hasnt worked out like he thought it would. This kid checks every box in what we need right now. And i cant express it enough that improving our relationship with the City Rocks, by taking their kids, is imperative for long term recruiting success. Some people said Carm did not really reign in AG to keep a good relationship with the rocks. I hope that’s not true. Can’t coach like that. I don’t see AG back. Good news on Platek though. Owens we'll see.

We'll duh, and that's the point, which you expertly made for me, thanks. If Siena wants to get to the top 100, they can't rely on high major transfers. No need to debate, just look at the results so far. Time to do something different, because clearly what has been done so far hasn't worked out. You do realize that Iona was in the top 100 this season with a starting backcourt of transfers from Tulsa and SMU, right? 😂

Def an odd comment by Carm to say what “if his minutes are down” ….. Jesus just keep quiet, why even say that! Just say we’re exploring all options & need to do what’s best for AG and leave it at that! I’m thinking Carm needs a PR course 101 pronto.

I'd like to hear the context of that response. And many hear certainly bad-mouthed AG. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Being one of the ones that has criticized AG, that was a strange thing for Carm to say. Also very strange that a year later, he doesn’t know what’s up with TO’s knee. Sounds like he’s not interested in the kid and has written him off.
Regarding Tice, I’m the one who DESPISES the “I only want kids that WANT to come to Siena BS.” He will NEVER be a successful college bb coach if he really believes that and sticks with it. Like others have said, you MUST sell your vision to him and CONVINCE him that Siena is the right place for him. In other words, ITS YOUR JOB TO MAKE HIM WANT TO COME TO SIENA and if at the end of the day, he doesn’t want to come to Siena, then A) he won’t come, and B) you failed at that part of your job. If he DOES come to Siena, it means that he does want to come and you succeeded at your job. Drop the freaking ego!!!

Why do they need to talk to NBA coaches. The kid can’t play I. The NBA and overseas these days has to be less enticing. He has a degree from Northwestern and will have an MBA from Siena. He can make more money getting a real job and starting a career

He can make more money getting a real job and starting a career I mentioned this earlier and with the injury and surgery it only makes more sense, but the players dream of a professional career and it is hard to deny them the chance if they want to pursue it. The post basketball career will always be there.

You don’t know what’s up with his knee and you still need to get him looked at by a doctor? Really, he has been here for 7 months and now you want to get him looked at by your doctor??

Always amazes me that fans parse every word out of a coaches mouth.
