....the transfer list on VC EXPLODED today. As soon as same teams lose, kids are entering. New Hampshire had 5 kids enter yesterday. They have a pretty good coach in Bill Herrion. Im wondering if he is leaving for Quinnipiac, which is going to open? Dunleavy is a lame duck for this tourney and I think he's already been informed.
New Hampshire has a very interesting senior with a year left. Jayden Martinez, 6'7" 215 forward from Texas would be exactly the type of kid we need for next year.

...is ruining college hoops as we've known it. I get a visceral reaction every time I hear these words "Transfer Portal".
Might as well call it "Screw you Mid-Majors, we're stealing your best players and there's not a damn thing you can do about it, but here, take our 11th and 12th players, best of luck, sucka!!!"

I’m wondering how many we’ll see elect to enter this year. Unfortunately the ability to move at will is not great for the game from a stability or fans perspective. With a revolving door roster all you seem to be rooting for is a uniform.

With a revolving door roster all you seem to be rooting for is a uniform. And it is the last nail in the coffin of, let's face it, what probably always was simply a marketing strategy known as the "Student Athlete". Very rarely does anyone involved consider the "Student" part above the "Athlete"...maybe more so at Siena's level, or at least I'd like to think so. But certainly not typically within the Power 6...now with incentives for them to "steal" the best players on the mid-major level, it's really made this entire thing a mockery.

Mid-majors should be looking into D-2, NAIA All-Americans. The portal is a food chain we have to live with.

Are there any repercussions for entering the portal and then returning to your team? Or does entering the portal count as your one freebie even if you don't transfer? If there are no consequences then you can expect virtually everyone to enter and want to be re-recruited every year. If you are Billups and McCollum don't you test the waters even if you intend to come back?

235 in the portal so far. I expect that number to quadruple before it's all said and done...and I expect the MAAC to be well represented in it. Some notable observations:
Alabama St. has 10 players in the portal. What the hell is going on there? Several other teams have as many as 4 transfers already. MAAC teams SPU, Iona, Canisius, Niagara, Manhattan, and Fairfield are all on the board.
I expect Quinny will get hit hard once what we all know is coming happens.

Before him was Burns. And I think Platek could too if he ever plays a full season for Siena.

There may be players at lower levels that can help, but you need dudes who can compete athletically and physically.

While I don't like the revolving door, it does offer the opportunity to get some players that are ready immediately. Bench players for P6 teams may want to see the court and it frees up a 'ship for the P6 teams. In some ways it could be symbiotic. It just requires a lot more communication between coaches and players to afford the proper planning. If I have staff at work that aren't super happy I make sure that if they're going to jump that I have a heads up and can make it an orderly transition. That's all anyone can ask.

If you are Billups and McCollum don't you test the waters even if you intend to come back? To your last question I would say no, but I'm sure there are those that would counsel that they should do the proper risk assessment and if they see that there is nothing to lose they should go for it. ;-) Everyone throwing their name in the portal every year would only exacerbate an already bad situation.
