It is humerous to read posters writing about the fantasy that there will be mutual interest between Siena and Richard Pitino and that Richard has the experience to lead Siena upward and onward.
Pitino has a mere one year of head coaching experience and has achieved a mediocre record in a less than mediocre conference.
A poster correctly stated that Mr. Pitino receives a salary of $250k which Siena could match but that poster failed to mention that FIU has added lucrative incentives to Pitino's contract which Siena may not desire to match. If on the remote chance that there was some mutual interest between Siena and it defies, logic that Pitino would be willing to uproot his family from Florida to move to Siena to take over a broken team for exactly the same money he already makes at FIU.

One thing that may be a consideration. Not sure who it would apply to but there may be buyouts that need to be paid for some of these coaches.

Tuesday is when it goes down. They won't make a major announcement that takes the spotlight away from the MAAC tournament. Though I'm not at liberty to be specific, at least two recognizable names have made indirect backdoor overtures of interest that I am aware of even though Mitch is still officially employed as coach. Weird industry the coaching industry - these guys have no problems pissing on each others graves before the body is even cold.

Actually most of them don't even need the body lying down, like dogs they will lift their legs to piss on a human fire hydrant. As for glens falls thinking it's humerous that posters are throwing out Pitino, Jr.....it was humerous to me that he followed this team through the season and two weeks ago tried to convince everyone that MB would be back for year 4. Just sayin....

It's funny coming on here seeing glens falls trash Pitino Jr. while he has FIU 3:45 seconds from the Sun Belt final.
Oh yea, they're playing Middle Tennessee State (28-4 rpi of 24).
Guess we should be talking more about Chris Casey.

Im not sold on Richard Pitino. Id rather go with someone who has more experience (paulsen, toole, Quinn Snyder etc.) than ricks son. Probably a poor comparison, but look at Pat knight.. Just because dad is really good doesn't mean the son will be.

Just because dad is really good doesn't mean the son will be. Totally different. Pitino has years of Florida recruiting and did understudy with a multiple NCCA winner (Donovan) besides his father. As for glensfalls (the guy that said 2 weeks ago Mitch was safe a lot of this conference switch talk will effect the interest, and amount of $$$$ we give out (easily exceeed $250 with an A-10 move) to a new coach.

Pitino is intriguing for sure. I will have to say I am more than a bit concerned that Pitino was only at FIU a single year, if he would leave FIU after a year, he’s do same to us. Unless there are some real extenuating circumstances, looks like a climber to me – although we made out all right with last coach called a climber

I don't care if Siena is a springboard for the BCS schools, it will increase the lineup at the door for the job. The only thing that matters is Siena makes good choices one after the other and remember this mantra " slow to hire, quick to fire".

I'm not sure who they should hire. I thought Fran was *iffy* on paper though he did have success getting teams to the dance. I'd be wary of a 1 year coach. Keano Davis was national coach of the year but clearly couldn't do the job that Cooley is doing at PC.
1. I'd go with what we know works: Proven head coaches (Deane and Fran) 2. I wouldn't worry about the guy leaving. Sure, grabbing a Mark Few type of situation would be sweet but in reality it isn't likely. If the guy leaves (and we didn't ask him to) it is because he did some great things. Fabulous. Then lets get the next awesome guy to continue the progress. Xavier should be our model not Gonzaga.

Agreed, glen.
This year's choice will have some added weight because this is the coach that we'll have when the A-10 gets to decide whether the Siena program is worth adding. There are a lot of good candidates and I would get behind most of them, but I gotta say, a "name" wouldn't hurt right now.
