Quinnipiac went all-in on Dunleavy to make them a MAAC power and to eventually move up to something like the Big East. Lofty goals, but good for them. Most teams are looking for a good year once in a while to keep fans interested. Other conferences have the same problem. I look at the America East and it seems that Vermont is the only team that cares year in and year out. Albany just looks to be competitive and I am not sure if the rest of the teams really care to make a longterm investment in their basketball programs. The A10 has teams like LaSalle (1 NIT appearance, 1 NCAA appearance -- Sweet 16 at least) in the last 27 years, winning conference record in 5 of those years. Then there is Fordham who has one tournament appearance (CIT) in 27 years and Duquesne has one NCAA appearance in the last 25 years and they have had 3 winning conference records during that time. The MAAC is right in line with the number of teams as other conferences, but the quality is the issue. Don't know what the solution is, but the commissioner isn't going to start shuffling teams away to get some other school willing to put an investment in basketball. That's a good way to get kicked out of his job. The MAAC teams must be content and making money if they are letting this go on. Part of the problem is the schools that are letting this happen don't want to be pushed to invest more. They have a good "Yes Man" at the helm.

No, the top 2 seeds sill play a quarterfinal game on Wed but if they win they then get a day off until they play in the semis held on Friday........huge advantage to get that rest so at least Siena has that going for them.......

Problem is demographics are plaguing smaller liberal arts colleges in the northeast. Athletics aren’t a priority. Some institutions will be struggling just to keep the lights on. A commitment to their athletic programs will inevitably take a back seat.

Lunardi still has Siena playing Prairie View in Dayton for the right to face Gonzaga in Spokane.
His latest projection for Albany is (6)Iowa vs. (11)Northern Iowa and (3)Villanova vs. (14)Hofstra in one region and (7)Virginia vs. (10)Stanford and (2)Seton Hall vs. (15)North Dakota St. in the other.
If we could just flip Rutgers for Stanford, it would be an ideal line-up of games from my perspective.

I agree KS...............although there might be some "rule" or scenario that the committee does not want teams that faced each other during the season to match up at least in the first/second rounds, they could eventually meet should it be later in the brackets though (and sometimes can't be helped when you get multi teams from a conference).....Seton Hall played & lost already at Rutgers earlier this year by 20pts................Iowa had played N Iowa in the past but not this yr so that would be an interesting match up for sure............

They would get a whole bunch of whining from fans in Virginia if they had to play Rutgers in Albany. Stanford is likely back out of the tournament now anyways with their loss last night to Oregon State.
