Sounds to me that D'Arg is taking out of both sides of his mouth and only being politically correct at this juncture of the season. Lets hope so. With only one ship to give and that being already taken its hard to believe that D'Arg would be publicly promoting that Jimmy needs to continue to run off some more kids so he has Ships to available to bring in "more talented players" so we can be more competitive next season. Doesn't sound like good Franciscan values/practices to me.

Drain the swamp. AD first. HC 1 month later. Good-Bye season tickets. Will come looking for you once again when a new AD and HC are in town.

Wow just effing wow! I wanted to read everyone's comments to get a feel for what the thoughts were before reading the article. Darg definitely talked out of both sides of his mouth. The first comments clearly left the door open to fire JP at the end of the year. I know many of you didn't read it that way but I definitely see wiggle room there for the review to turn things. wtf Darg #1 - Bucknell, College of Charleston and Florida Gulf Coast - are too challenging??? OMG, do I have to say anything else here other than Darg must go if the school hopes to resurrect the program. wtf Darg #2 - there are no graduating players and the one scholarship being vacated by Nico is already claimed and your are talking about him getting more players "We need more players. We need people that can match up with the other teams in the league." So there we have Siena's AD on record basically encouraging the head coach to chase kids off the team!I will still follow the program for a couple years because there's a young man on the team my family and I care about but otherwise I am truly done until SoSo & fukhdDarg are gone, gone, gone! Just took 10 min to re-read the whole thing again x 2. Agree totally with this interpretation. Talking out of both sides of his mouth. Remember Fran LOVED LOUDONVILLE two weeks before he went to IOWA (and I don't blame him for that, IMHO you always strike while the iron is hot). So....basically, D'arg exactly what are your KPIs for this 'end of the year discussion' with JP? Enlighten us, please. Then you go off making excuses...... WTF- the schedule is too challenging? We were blown out by MAAC teams too, so maybe we should drop down to D-II. We need more players? People that match up with other teams??? You are paying that windbag in charge over 400k to assess the landscape and go after those players. Hows that working for you? Because it sure as hell isn't working for many of your paying fans. No wonder the fundraiser fell to only 50% of goal. KPIs: Keeping Patsos Interested?

Key Performance Indicators but really, I like yours better. Let's change the acronym definition for this board.

Did anyone catch the double entendre in the sub-headline of the article? It was "Athletic director says Siena committed to its coach despite off season." Was it referencing the 8-20 record to date or JP's efforts, or lack of same, from April to September? Either interpretation appears to be correct.

Frankly I’m glad Siena isn’t rushing into a termination because replacing him with a cheap coach may not be any better. Shore up the finances and go big next time. Forget the notion that Siena b-ball is dead. The next winner that comes in here will bring back the Siena fans in droves. So save your money, take a break (my all in commitment to Siena hoops has dropped by about $9,000 since the glory days) and be ready to open your wallet again in a few years.

Of course it is in the context of this season but I agree it fits for both. Your successes from November to March usually is generated from April to October. And how about this gem from the AD: We took on some games, so when we had a good team last yearOn paper we had a team that was SUPPOSED to be good last year but the bottom line was they were 17-17 - with four seniors and Nico. Totally unacceptable.

Dear John, Thank you for clarifying your plans and perspectives regarding Coach Patsos and the Siena men’s basketball program. I have just a few follow-up comments: 1. You said "…when you look at how the team has competed, Canisius and Rider notwithstanding, I think that they've shown improvement.” That’s like saying “…except for February 2, 5 and 8, it’s been a good month for the stock market…” 2. You said “…I think the young guys are starting to understand playing as a team…I think we have a lot more steps to make, but they have made some." Well, they’ve been playing together for at least 6 months, so with only 2 weeks to go, do you really expect them to make a lot more steps this season? 3. No one is surprised that it’s been a down year after graduating four 1,000-point scorers from last year's team. However, did you know that Rider, who just beat us by 26 points, also has a very young team (and no seniors), but their record (20-7) is far better than Coach Patsos accomplished (17-17) with all of those senior 1,000-point scorers? 4. You indicated that the schedule was too ambitious, citing a number of challenging non-conference games (4-9 overall), but does our record in the MAAC (4-11) indicate that playing in that league is too ambitious as well? 5. I agree that some of the freshmen have shown promise, as have some of the older players when given a fair opportunity to play. But with only one player leaving (Nico), and one recruit already committed, how can Coach Patsos bring in more talent next year so we ”…can match up with the other teams in the league…"? 6. Since you attend most of the home games, are you at all concerned by the large number of empty seats of season ticket holders, even if they are counted as “paid attendance”? It’s sad to see the decline in actual attendance and I can’t see how playing at the TUC is sustainable for 3 more years if that trend continues. 7. As a season ticket holder, I too plan to “…review everything at the end of the year…look at where we're at, and are we getting better." Depending on what new recruits are signed (if any), it does not appear that we are getting better after 5 years under Coach Patsos. We’ve lost 17+ games in 4 of his 5 years, with this year likely to be the most losses to date, so the trajectory is not good. Thank you for thinking about these issues.

Which is not inaccurate. The translation is easy. He basically said “Hi Darg, I read your comments about the team and I call bullshit!”

Good post. You made your points without any of the name-calling, invective and cursing that have been a part of far too many posts for too long. Thank you. Really? He’s basically calling Darg a bullshitter. Which is not inaccurate. The translation is easy. He basically said “Hi Darg, I read your comments about the team and I call bullshit!” I think s22's comment is on the money - implying that someone is a liar is a nicer way to do it than just blurting "liar" out. Given the long standing situation and the apparent lack of doing anything about it, it's not always easy to dial it back. We all have hot buttons and they've been getting pushed on a more regular basis this season and the skin beneath those buttons is raw to begin with. Not that it would matter, but it might make sense to email it to John to ensure he sees it and can get a pulse of the fans after the TU article.
