I don't need his "history as a head coach" to know that he is a very good coach and he & this team is capable of winning 20 games this season and the next two. The next two will be even more impressive as our SOS will be better the next two yrs. Don't dwell on the past. Live in the now. Prepare for the future. I expect de head gringo to change as his pesos are on de line. They will run ... like speedy gonzales. Mucho wins ahead! Agree with Bat poop. Knowing that Chief Mitch win 20 despite a long history of failure like Einstein quote on insanity. Do same thing many times. Expect different results.

If Siena goes uptempo and only gets 18 wins I'd consider giving Mitch another year. At least it would show he's listening and has implemented a new system.

After reading the preceeding 8 pages I had a couple of questions for all....
Which do you prefer watching..an up tempo game or pound the ball in game
Would you rather have a 2 pt loss to Pittsburg or a 20 point win over NJIT
Which style or scedule do you think would be more attractive to a potential recruit?
One observation...when Siena made their 4 game run thru the MACC tournament by not paying attention to Lanier I think one of the greatest moments was when Lanier was screaming at Prosper and Prsper just waved him off.
Finally...does the PIG game that year count as an NCAA win or a season win. I don't believe the pre tournament record shows it and our NCAA record doesn't show it. It only comes up in the season total.

My optimism towards Mitch is centered around the fact that I think there is some genius to the defensive system and personnel that he has put in place.
He likes the zone, so he immediately goes out and gets two big shotblockers in Silas and Gomis to anchor it. And he's already got Martens as well. I mean, Mitch was already 16th in the nation in 2 pt defense with Walters holding down the middle. Imagine the potential interior D this year if Silas is the shotblocker he's advertised to be. That's rare for a mid major.
Offensively, he knows he needs to open up room inside for OD now and Silas/Gomis later so he goes out and gets a shooting big man in Bisping and a high % SG in Oliver. He also knows he needs an all-around guard who can draw fouls so he gets Audu.
There is not a team in the MAAC that has the well rounded potential of Siena. Manhattan would be there if Pankey was eligible but Loyola doesn't have the depth.
I don't care what pace Siena plays at. The beauty of it is, for one of the few times in program history, they have the personnel to do both. With Hymes being the fastest guard in the league, they basically have the ability to dictate the pace of each game as they see fit. That means very few poor matchups for us.
We don't have to try to outrun other running teams if they play worse at slow pace. And we can try to outrun halfcourt teams if we want to. It makes us a tougher scout and puts us in the driver's seat.
Our upside will mainly come down to how well we shoot the ball.

I would think a majority of fans would prefer an offensive up-tempo style type of game, however winning can usually trump any situation........keep in mind that there are many factors that can go into the pace of a game, just because a team wants to get out and run doesn't mean it will happen in a given game, the other team could control tempo/flow, lack of rebounding/poor shooting can also effect style of play...........won't matter too much, this seasons roster gives the Mitch the opportunity to play it many different ways, which can be a great advantage to have that flexibility...........from the players angle, they all want to score, to the man they prefer putting the ball in the hoop a plenty, rather than hunkering down..............as for play-in-game vs. Alcorn St., it is indeed counted as an NCAA tournament win, and rightfully should be!!!!!!!!!!

It only comes up in the season total. I prefer watching an up tempo game of course, but I would rather see a win no matter what the style. I would rather have a 20 point win at NJIT. A win is a win, and a loss is a loss. You don't get much style points for losing to big six opponents. You get the style points for BEATING them. I think an up tempo style would be preferable to most players. I think they would like to see a schedule that includes big name teams in exotic places. I don't think this is necessarily the best thing for the program, however. 18 year old kids don't know everything. There needs to be a mix. The NCAA PIG game counts as an NCAA win. However, it did not count for revenue sharing. Of course, beating Alcorn State was not the same as beating Ohio State. That's why every game matters -- not just the conference tournament as some people like to think.
