gosaints - I agree. I'd go so far as to say anything under 20 wins should result in an exit. At some point you have to win. Next year we lose OD and will have a harder schedule - so we'll have to cut him slack for that too.
All I need to do is point to Dave Mediocrity - the former Marist coach. He had some respectable years but never really got it done. He always managed to do just enough to have the gullible lot of fans cut him slack for 1 more year. I really fear that. By this time with Fran we were looking at a return ot the NCAA tournament. Think about that folks.

You're post is right on the button- at some point the excuses have to stop and you have to start winning. This is Mitch's 3rd year..plenty of time to rebuild. No more excuses just win. To consistently beat better teams you have to be able to score the ball. I think we will know very quickly this year how things will go, if we continue to struggle to score 65 points results will be very similar to first two years of Mitch's tenure

Without a successful program Siena will not be able to implement one of four initiatives of their 2011-2016 Strategic Plan "expand and leverage investment in Division I athletics to promote the reputation of the College and enhance student engagement."
Translation ... Siena is going to increase athletic spending but wants a higher return on their investment.
Beyer and Lanier's tenure would have been dramatically shortened under this plan

LOL I agree, he needs to get us to the Sweet 16 or get rid of the bum.

Whoa. I never said Sweet 16 or bust. I never said I wanted to ditch Mitch. I'd prefer he wins and stays. I like Mitch and I think the team does too. It would be beneficial for all if he kicks butt and takes the program to new heights.
All I'm saying is at some point he needs to win - and win big...and that point is now. The point about Marist is that mediocrity is the thing I fear most. Look, if the coach is great - no problem. If the guy is horrendous - sure it sucks for a bit but the decisions are clear cut and relatively easy. It is those tweener coaches who aren't horrible but aren't great. They're good for a decade of mediocrity because "next year will be better".
I've had season tix since '90. I've been through the ups and downs. I want Mitch to succeed. I'm just not as willing as many of you to muddle through 18-12 seasons forever. We've tasted champagne and Miller High Life ain't it.

We've tasted champagne and Miller High Life ain't it. at the mid-major level... the Magarity effect is something everyone is affraid of. A coach that finds a way to win ... just enough ... to keep his job. This season really wont prove all that much other than... expectations are a very good record against a weak schedule. Should anything less than that happen, it could be an interesting off-season in 2013. If it does happen then you have to look at next season... a.k.a. life post-Anosike (the last of the Fran era)

If the Saints beat Vermont in game 1, entering 2013 with an 8-5 record is probably the worst they could do.
They could go 10-7 the rest of the way to get to that key 18 win mark everybody talks about...going into the MAAC tourney. 9 of those 2013 games are at home where we shoot 10 times better.
I just want to beat Vermont. It sets the tone for the entire year. They have a good starting lineup and that guy Voelkel is a nightmare. Candon Rusin, Marist's old 40% shooter is there now too and so is Ethan O'Day. It's at home and their new guys haven't meshed yet so I like our chances. If we're already good enough to beat them, then things will only get better as the year goes on. It's a good early test.
As far as post-OD.
I look for Bisping and Silas to establish themselves as the frontcourt of the future. The potential chemistry of those two guys playing together for the next few years is unlimited. Silas is the post guardian and Bisping is the versatile scoring big man we've not had in a while. If Martens stays too, I don't think frontcourt will be a problem next year.

Brett is a combination of Osinski and Alex(w/o Alexs' athleticism). Corey was a good outside shooter in high school but transitioned to an inside game at Siena. Alex played like Owens, Poetzsh, Matthews, Terwilliger, McCoy, Schroeder, Haddix, and Walton(who in my opinion was equal to Alex athletically).

It looks like Brett can throw it down pretty easily from his highlight reels. The thing I like best about him is how he handles the ball for a guy who is 6-8. He can pump fake, dribble pull up to both sides. He's more than just a straight line driver with some hop stepping ability in the lane yet he's also got some of those big man spin moves and jump hooks. It looks like the guy can score from everywhere and he's got a smooth shot. That's pretty impressive. He really is Gordon Hayward-esque.
He seems like a better and smoother driver than Owen Wignot for comparison, only he'll probably make his dunks. Yes, I have a man crush.

Think future holds fifth place finish like saying "I know you can't win conference, but I don't think you be last?"
This does not bode well for man from Fairfield.
What you think?

I don't need his "history as a head coach" to know that he is a very good coach and he & this team is capable of winning 20 games this season and the next two. The next two will be even more impressive as our SOS will be better the next two yrs. Don't dwell on the past. Live in the now. Prepare for the future.
