I think it's funny that some are picking this team to finish just one spot higher than it did when it had only 6 players last season. But I'm okay with the underestimation. I'll enjoy it that much more when Siena jumps on some unexpecting victims this season and everbody is like "where did they come from"?

I can honestly see it ending up as Manhattan and Siena as 1 and 1A this year.
Loyola and Iona have some big issues right now. To me, Manhattan and Siena, on paper, seem to have the depth and all around games to go the distance. Iona needs to learn to play defense and figure out their new identity & get Laury. And Loyola is hurting for depth and scoring, plus PG play while RJ sits in his corner. I think Siena can get out of the gate strong and never look back if they are shooting decently.
Anyone know if the Skidmore game will be on all-access like the Adelphi game was?
I want to see that game before I go off and officially begin to make such preposterous and outlandish claims.

It has been stated before but at this level passionate fans on message boards know more about their own teams and conference foes than the authors of these predictions.

Taking a unbiased look at MAAC – I can see Siena being picked anywhere from 3rd thru 5th... I much prefer being the hunter than the hunted. Manhattan deserves to be picked 1st.. Loyola is pretty good and the defending champs. Iona is coming off a great run, they lost a lot of key pieces but Cluless teams can score points and if you can score points you win in the MAAC ( it’s been proven over and over again) Niagara finished tied with us and they bring back 5 starters, plus add White in the 2nd half
In my mind Siena has the talent to win MAAC- but we have a lot of question marks- we lost 3 starters and have a coach who as the head man hasn’t had much success . He has never coached a running team as a head coach. If we run like we did the last two years I expect similar results. If we really run and take advantage of our team speed and depth- play a pressure defense and typical Mitch good half court defense this team can win the MAAC- I see at least 5 or so teams capable of making a run at championship if they answer their question marks.
All in all I like where Siena is sitting right now- we need our head coach to step up and give the kids the green light to shoot, score some points and we are off to the races

Why would being picked 5th be so unreasonable? Siena has finished 8-10 and 8-10 in each of the last two years. 10-8 has earned a 5th place finish in each of those two years. Assuming Brookins stays healthy for the vast majority of the season and assuming there is a nother big on the team capable of scoring, defending, rebounding, that should be enough to finish 4th or 5th while going 11-7 or 10-8. You should remember that, like Siena, other teams do have the ability to get better as well. 4th or 5th place may not be what we all want but it is certainly reasonable for the press to see it this way.

You're right, but I highly doubt you or they have analyzed the MAAC teams as much as I have. Siena should be picked at least 4th by people who pay at least some attention. IMO 3rd is the correct call. Only Siena, Manhattan, FF and Loyola even have a defense. FF has no offense or guard depth and Iona has great guards but no inside play, defense or rebounding. Even David Laury can't fix the latter two. The rest of the teams all have more than one noticeable flaw in the type of personnel and how they fit with coaching style. A lot of these guys are just picking Iona ahead based on hype or Niagara because they know Mason's father, FF just because of Needham, or even worse Rider because of Lindsay. They're picking those teams on the strength of their hyped guards, but if you look at the stats of those guards and compare them to Hymes/Brookins they're basically a wash. Then you throw Anosike & Co. into the mix and it should be a no brainer. Fact is, they don't care to look that closely.

Yactually back up a bit here, Stags do have guard depth, and solid quality players for sure there, it is the frontcourt where they have question marks!!!!! They only have 4 guys total who have guard skills. Needham, Wade, Jenkins, & Nickerson. 3 of those need to start, 1 is a frosh, and 1 can't shoot. Wade and Needham are streak shooters. If one goes down they are going to be vulnerable. The rest are combo forwards. The bigs are inexperienced but there is talent there and there are a lot of them.

If one goes down they are going to be vulnerable. If this is an argument against Fairfield's guard depth, then Siena is extremely exposed at the guard position. Four who have guard skills, two that need to start, and 2 frosh. Fairfield is one of the few teams with talented upperclassmen guards. They should be fine in the back court, it's their front court that could be exposed. With that said, I think in most pre-season polls they are being picked 6th, and I think that's a fair spot for them.
