Imho the best candidate on that list would be Steele, don't think we would have a shot though.

Siena must hire someone who will be a tireless worker and who understands that winning basketball in 2017 is not as it was in 2007. The sport has evolved. College basketball is faster, more competitive. and offenses in particular have changed. Siena should select someone with pedigrees from winning programs (Coach K and Thad Matta are great teachers). Siena should hire someone who wants to make the NCAAs at Siena on a regular basis in order to parlay Siena's MAAC successes into a big time $ contract at a P5 or Big East school. Siena should not hire a coach that is happy to have his career in the mid majors. Greg Paulus would do a great job at Siena. He also has relative ties to the Capital District. _________________________________________ Greg Paulus was added to the Ohio State menβs basketball staff as video coordinator in June of 2011. He was elevated to assistant coach in the summer of 2013. He joined Thad Mattaβs staff after spending the 2010-11 campaign as an assistant coach at Navy. The Buckeyes have won 99 games with Paulus as an assistant coach. In four of five seasons with Paulus on the bench (two of three as an assistant), the Buckeyes have qualified for the NCAA Tournament...... Prior to beginning his coaching career at Navy, Paulus had a successful four-year playing career at Duke (2006-09) .... A three-year starter for the Blue Devils, he played on four NCAAβTournament teams, helping them to a 112-28 record while leading the team in assists in 2006, 2007 and 2008...... A native of Manlius, N.Y., Paulus also excelled in the classroom throughout his collegiate career, earning three-time member of the ACC All-Academic Team www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/greg_paulus_761198.html

I like your approach but want someone with around 12-15 years experience and worked for multiple coaches. Still going and hungry but should have learned all the ropes

I like younger and hungy. Think outside the box! After 15 years and your still struggling your old news. I'd cap that requirement at 10 and under.

Nathan Davis is my preliminary selection. Head coach at bucknell, second year. Proven winner everywhere he has been, local ties, clean record. Won patriot league title in first year. Was top assistant in bucknells glory years of NCAA success. Numerous coach of year awards and national finalist of other awards. Before you say Siena can't get him his predecessor went to George mason and turned around their dumpster fire in second year-- 9 game winning streak. After seven years at bucknell his deal was 5 years for $3.5 million, with almost half of that in supplemental compensation. .Weren't we close to joining the a10 at one point? Time to step up if Siena is serious about its basketball program. m.bucknellbison.com/mobile/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210033715&db_oem_id=32100

I don't want to go too crazy getting a list together because as you said we don't know that a change will be made. Lanier and Mitch were obviously going to get fired. This is murky territory especially if Siena wins some games (12-14 range) and depending on what Patsos' buyout is. If the buyout isn't a factor then the choice is done. Siena will kill the program if they bring Patsos back - next year will be another death watch. I don't think the program can survive another one of those.

Yes I do realize the irony of looking at a coach who has lost to patsos :-). Let's see how the rest of the year goes.

I keep reading that admission is giving the BBALL recruits fits, but I don't get it. If you are qualified through the NCAA clearing house, what kind of HS transcript background do you need to be accepted into a major in Creative Arts? I am asking this seriously. And are you saying that we should continually take academic risks to win basketball games. Well, here is a conundrum- how do we weigh academic risk against basketball IQ? Or, are we only concerned about performance at the TUC and to hell with the classroom? There are many successful coaches at all levels of Collegiate basketball that don't agree with that plan. Who have we passed on other than the Jc kid we turned away. How many serious recruits have we lot because of this Roland Griffin
