If it was an 80 team tournament selected by computers instead of humans more solid mid majors would bump out mediocre power teams by the second round. The issue is 12 or 13 low major champions really have little shot of winning 2 games and these are the teams taking away spots from mid majors in the 30-50 rpi range.

surprisingly I liked Bilas's idea.... do the "at large" bids before the conference tourney's.... so teams like Michigan would not get a chance to pad their resume in their conference tournament. There would need to be some logisitics after the conference tourney's to account for teams who played there way in and won the tourney (like Iona this year), but you would give every team equal footing on the season resume, vs a team making a run and winning a few games in a few days after being mediocre all year. So like this year, Monmouth would most likely have already been in..... sure makes the conference tourney mean less for them, but still playing for seed etc.... And for teams like Michigan or South Carolina who know they are out unless they win it all, well the conference tourney means more then a chance to showcase, it means they gotta win it all just to dance.

Anyone else hear the announcers in the Maryland Kansas game, including Rafferty, discuss Siena for a minute or two? Apparently Steve McCoy is related to one of the players in the game.

Yeah, never knew that. Jim Nantz is really good with those nuggets. Nice to hear Siena get some love on CBS. Raff also gave Jimmy Patsos a shoutout.
