If they want a neutral location, they should look at the Westchester County Center. 5,000 seats and closer to more MAAC institutions. Google it. They don't really want a neutral site- they want $$$ and that's why Siena will have the tournament for many years to come. Did you go to Springfield, a neutral site- it was a ghost town. Some of the coaches like Cluess will bitch and moan but the guys making the decisions know that Siena, when contending, will draw more fans than most of the other MAAC teams combined and that is very good for the Canisius's of the league that are in dire straits financially.

3,115 attend final. Looks like about 20k in total for men, don't know about women. At 30 a head ( some tickets were 75) that's 600k. Yup I think they are happy.

Not sure what all the complaining is about. I bought tickets to four sessions and they were $7.50 each after fees. If you want cheap tickets you can get them.

Pretty sure I heard Ensor on radio saying, the guarantee was 700K! Not convinced they are happy plus, he stated the main criteria for bringing Monmouth and Quinny into the conference was the quality of their facilities. Siena attendance is slowly deteriorating I think and the MAAC may be preparing for on campus tournament play down the line. They would be making a serious mistake by not having the option.

Now this post is funny Why Funny? I have been a Siena fan since the '60's so trust me, I am not here to provoke. I am pretty sure the tournament may have not achieved the guarantee number if I heard Ensor correctly. If i am wrong, just say so and that should end tournament concerns for the TU. Over the years, playing Siena games downtown has been a plus especially considering quality recruiting efforts but the one obvious disadvantage is, games are separated from campus and student base. Siena literally crushes other MAAC schools when discussing season attendance but, where are the new fans as we old farts thin out? How many students did you see at the tournament? The atmosphere was not great on Sunday for and Iona vs. Siena contest!! The MAAC has constantly looked for an option other than just Albany for the tourney and none exists. If attendance slips and it MAY have this weekend, they'll be forced to at least contemplate an option and no other single site has worked. So, out of necessity, on campus play has never been considered? We'll have a few years to watch things play out.

We're are the new fans going to come from? Seems the younger crowd just isn't into the hoops products around here.

I would consider myself and the 5 other guys I have season tickets with pretty young with the oldest being 31. The student turnout for the Siena games in the turny was really good. Siena is also a family atmosphere and that is how the ticket base will continue to grow, families going to games or getting season tickets with their kids along with alumni staying in the capital district. Winning also helps, 21 wins was good but honestly who did Siena beat that was a big name or who did they bring to the TUC that would bring a casual fan to the arena to see the product? Siena needs to get back tot he NCAAs on a consistent basis or the fans will start to dissipate.

7127 right on the money. You and your group should be the target demographic. Winning, bringing in quality opponents and competing with them, stealing one here and there, going to the dance or NIT consistently (say 5 out of every 7to 8 years) is the only thing that is going to grab that interest.

That is clearly the goal. Now the program has to take the steps to accomplish it. I believe Siena is heading in the right direction but there can be no let down. Improvement in all areas is needed every year.

I honestly became a fan during the NIT run, my father was a huge fan (still is) and we actually went to every game, Tulane at the Knick, Bradley in Glens Falls, then down to MSG it was an awesome run. We need that again to continue to generate young fans.

Siena needs to get to the NCAA quick. The fan base in going down fast and the only way to build interest and get new fans is make the tournament even if its a play in game. The casual fan isn't concerned about second rate tournaments. If anyone can't admit attendance is going downhill fast, they are casting a blind eye.

Siena needs to get back tot he NCAAs on a consistent basis or the fans will start to dissipate. a lot of this is true, but in reality.................Siena has almost hit the ceiling in fans, and I say that only because winning most certainly brings in fans but at what number?, eventually you hit the wall no matter what...................it has as much to do with the teams they are playing (out of conference) and the league we are in.............this isn't a slap at the MAAC, because we are a big member, but many of the teams in this league are not on the same page in many aspects and just aren't "draws".....then we have a difficult time drawing a marquis opponent to come to Albany to entice the overflow crowds.....................you have to really work the creative end financially offering discounted packages to fans/families to get them to attend games, while still trying to make a buck, expenses run higher when at the Arena and not your own facility.......................Darg & company have tried a number of things over the yrs................but it may be we are close to the apex of fan attendance, and possibly isn't moving north of 7K (or that much more) unless we were to switch to a higher profile league (and with that comes all kinds of questions, suitable for another discussion)!!!!!!!!!!!
