In general, I love the MAAC tourney and the product that is put on the floor. Great display by almost all of the schools with bands, dance teams, cheer teams, mascots, etc. We are very fortunate to have the tourney in Albany, hope that it stays for many more years.
What is needed yet, I believe, is how to market tickets. Someone else suggested having blocks of tickets for schools and not mixing fans - excellent suggestion. But, my concern, is getting more fans into the arena. The crowd Saturday night for Manhattan and Siena was outstanding. That is the atmosphere that is needed for EVERY game. It is just not the same when you have a few hundred people sprinkled here and there around the arena.
Sunday there were blocks and blocks of empty seats. Why not market those as discounted seats for kids? Get HS kids here to see the product and they will want to play at the MAAC level. They need to offer more of a tier of pricing to get kids in the arena. The flex tickets might be a step in the right direction, but more needs to be looked at, and I hope it will be. Why don't they offer packages with the men's and women's tournament only? I am sure the lower prices would get more fans to come. The MAAC is putting on a good show, now get people there to enjoy the hoop.
As an aside, I missed the mascot game this year. To me, it is always one of the most fun times, seeing those goofy characters out on the court, a lot of laughs.
What do you think is needed to get fans to the TUC?

More fans would show if the other teams had a fan base. You can't expect the residents of the area to increase the numbers for games that don't include Siena. Market the 10 other schools locals........... People around here know the Tourneys in Albany.

If we want to keep the tourney here then everyone show up tonight. A solid crowd tonight without Siena would be huge for keeping the tournament in Albany.

Agree that Sunday should become family day with heavily discounted packages ... Can do kid zone thing for a few hrs before 4:30 game ... Heavy commitment for 3 games so think casual Siena fan watches first game ... Skips the second ... And hopes for Siena being back Monday ... Crazies like us are there for the whole tourney

I personally think the pricing is ridiculous. The MAAC pricing is killing the tournament here. I remember in Springfield you could get a seat for 10 bucks and sit anywhere. Same thing at the venue in Connecticut. The cost of tickets to individual sessions is way out of the range of most people. Heck I remember an all session pass from past TU Center MAAC tournaments being $75.00. That wasn't that long ago. To get a decent all session pass in a decent location present day is 167 bucks a person.

I think they should offer a $20.00 - $25.00 ticket per game that is general admission to specific sections of the arena.
Other schools don't have the support that Siena does, it will always be tough to get big draws on a non-Siena game.
Another option could be making the All Session pass cheap $125.00 for solid seats, this would entice more people to buy those and Siena should bring enough walk-ups on game day if it is priced reasonably.

Remember this is related as much to covering the TUC guarantee as it is the MAAC. Love the idea of family day as it is a great way to build life long fans.

Rice of tickets for middle sections including some of the upper deck $35, MAAC not big tem. Get the men semi finals played Sunday afternoon, sorry but they are the ones which draw. Give the 1-2 seeds some time of reward, nut it was evident both FF and Siena both were operating on tired legs, fans aren't stupid, they know their teams are at a disadvantage. If you have to change up the schedule do so. T Huerter stated today 2pm on 1300 TUC is the only venue which draws. Also MAAC trying to be financially responsible.

I think there are a few issues with the tourney as it is done right now with ticket sales. All session passes are sold for both men and woman combined. Fans of the woman's team might purchase all session passes and not use them for the men's game which could be the reason for the big blocks of empty seats. Individual game prices are also $20 higher than needed to get the casual fan to the game. We bought all session tickets in section 105 and went everyday but people that bought tickets for a day said they could spend the money to see 3 games, so they were going to do Saturday and then Monday if they made it that far. Hard for a family to come to the arena and drop $500 for the weekend on a MAAC tournament. While it seemed like there was more people in the building both Saturday and Sunday than what the announced crowd was, hopefully the tournament stays in Albany.

Crazies like us are there for the whole tourney More than the "casual" Siena fans stayed home. If you are a season ticket holder and stayed home for any of the men's tournament games shame on you and you should have at least attended the Siena women's tournament games if work schedule did not get in the way. People want the tournament in Albany and they watch on line or on TV rather than attend. If you are a season ticket holder, buy the all session pass with your season ticket package and support the tournament in Albany. If not don't complain should it move/rotate out of Albany.
