So what? Nobody would win at High Point. Lots of guys get hired with sub .500 records. What was Fran's record? I suspect he didn't have a losing record. My world view is that good coaches win. Why can't a coach at High Point win? It isn't like they need to play all their games vs. ACC opponents. Unless the AD totally controls scheduling and sets up a disproportionate number of guarantee games to float the athletics department I'd say he should be winning. I'd be very uncomfortable switching from one losing coach to another.

Some places though like Greensboro or High Point or St. Peter's etc... it is VERY tough to have a consistent winner. Cherry is an interesting name but considering how important this hire is for Siena I think they have to shoot higher and be willing to open up their wallets!

They have to see the fans, players, and recruits on this coach !! From those you said before...I would like Paulsen or Toole !

Fran was only 90-87 at NC Greensboro, so technically a winning record but not by much. Look at what other coaches have done from uncg. One went to Winthrop and has floundered. Another went to smu and now back at uncg and floundering. You have to look at more than record.

How old was Hewitt when he came? 35 at the start of the season. Toole would be 33. I think there are ideal people at ideal points in their career, but not ideal ages.

This thread gives all Siena fans some hope and excitement about the future. However, there is an elephant in the room, guys. What if Siena admin. decides to honor the fourth year of the Mitch contract and then none of us have any hope?
All Siena fans know it makes sense to end this failed experiment, but is there a chance they won't make a move???

College basketball is a business and business isn't doing well. The only thing that would save Mitch at this point is a winning season or MAAC championship. The odds of either happening are astronomical.

I don't believe the next coach will be an assistant. We need a good GAME COACH. No one knows if the assistants people keep naming on this board are a good game coach. First thing to look at is their record, if he doesn't have a winning record, don't even look at him.
This next hire is HUGH! Selecting a coach is a gamble, you lessen that gamble by selecting a proven game coach not an assistant...imo

Hire a poven guy like theguy from Bucknell. Keep Tobin and hire Carmen Masciarello to recruit and bring a tie from the school back. 3rd assistant should be a young guy with potential, maybe someone who can relate to inner city kids

Forcing a HC to take one left over staffer and bring an alumni back who is very happy in Boston is a prescription for another dysfunctional unit.

Siena could always make Kyle Downey an Assistant Coach !
So from what I see most peole have ..
1. Paulsen
2. Toole
3. It's up in the air ?!
- Who did Siena interview before ? And might interviewed again ? Or was that list a load of B.S. ?!
