You keep saying that Brown coached circles around JP?? Did you think that when it was 32-16? Look Browns best coaching move was having a starting line-up that averaged 22 years of age while facing a team that probably averaged 19. That age/experience factor definitely showed up as the game wore on, but stop with the Brown is a great coach stuff. Best thing he ever did was OFF the court when he went to Austrailia for his kids. He wasn't getting it done in the Northeast so he took his recruiting international. That, combined with the JC route, seem to be working, and he definitely deserves credit for that. It basically saved his job, and even got him an extension. again, high comedy...........Brown did nothing in that game, all he did was stay the course, there was no special changing of strategy or defenses............if anything, Patsos is the one that decided to switch to zone which he rarely ever has his team play...............the T came at a bad time, but it was deserved, fyi Puk traveled before the contact so he was bailed out by Hughes.....and if folks want to argue that Patsos constantly runs guys in/out without allowing very little flow, then that is an observation, but Mike Deane did it prominently when he was at Siena, seemed to work fine..........the team is a work in progress, but the development has begun and we need another strong recruiting class to add to the frosh we have now to be consistent winners!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know that! lol I guess then JP ourcoached him for most of the first half, then Will coached circles aroudn him after that? Or maybe Wills "men" settled down and beat JP's "boys?" Look, Brown was 53-72 in the 4 years before he had that nice run at the end of last year. He was real close to getting fired, so let's not get him and Coach K confused. I know it's a great win for you guys,(and one you were expected to win), but let's give your players most of the credit. Will didn't pull a Norman Dale last night.

More random thoughts: Positives - White's aggressive play on the offensive end - he did not waste a minute to show what he could do on the court, and he ended up playing more than half the game and leading Siena in scoring. Wright looks very solid at the point, should get even better as he learns how to play to each of his teammates. Long looked very versatile and ready for a major role this year, loved his intensity and control even after 4 fouls. Wish he had gotten more touches at the offensive end in the second half when Saints scoring (outside shooting) went cold. JO and Silas both showed some promise, can see them splitting time at the 5 for now. The rebounding effort and hustle was solid most of the game, even when UA seemed to come up with the ball in the end.
Negatives - 0 for 16 3-pt shooting in second half!! If just 1 or 2 had gone in, the outcome of the game may have been different. Same for free throws, which was inexplicably dismal except for White. Oliver and Bisping are both supposed to be very good 3-pt shooters, yet neither one seemed interested in attempting one. If Oliver is not going to shoot, why is he in there? The high number of fouls committed will hurt against most teams. Hymes looked completely unsure of himself, not sure it that was due to coaching or his lack of practice/playing in a new role. Poole seems out of position as a small forward, I think he might be better as a 2 at the offensive end. The half court offense needs work to get more inside shots like UA was able to do. Not sure I like Jimmy's constant subbing and yelling at players, but if the players accept it and learn from it, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because I like everything else he brings to the program.
Bottom line - it's too early to say much except I'm excited about all the new players and coach, but would like to see Poole and White switch positions. Despite White's smaller size, he played like a 3 whereas Poole tried but didn't look good at all. If he's the shooter we think he is, let's keep him on the perimeter. I'm also ready to see what Wolfe can bring to the floor too, he did not look as undeveloped as I expected. Go Saints!

I wasn't at the game but looking at the box score, we are attempting WAY too many threes (not the first half but the second half). The foul shooting was ugly. Twenty five points in the second half does not win you games in Division One Basketball.
These kids need to learn that going to the basket and getting contact wins you games, not trying to get a three every time down the court.
The talent is there. Can't wait till the end of the month...

JP has to look for the next Ubiles and a decent back up pg. then we roll.
Poole is a decent square up shooter the problem is he's always leaning when he shoots.. Never seen anything like it drives me crazy.

They still lack shooters. They don't have one Guy that is a threat from three. Why can't they get a shooter. That is what this team needs desperately.

I don't think anyone is jumping ship. Criticism isnt jumping ship if it's constructive and honest. Patience isn't always a virtue as many businessman will tell you. I'm sure many bb coaches agree. Patsos may outwardly state he is patient, but he is not... And that's a good thing. Maybe jumping ship is not the right phrase, but the first game under a new HC should be taken with a grain of salt, I think. I like what I saw in the freshman, especially White and Long. I still like JO to start, and Wright will gain more confidence as the season goes on. I do hope that Wolfe gets minutes soon, as I do believe he could be the better option off the bench compared to Brett, even at this early point in the season. Oh yeah - I think 4 freshman should start at Vermont with Silas as the 6th man. 4 Frosh ... Absolutely and even quicker than I originally thought!

Never seen anything like it drives me crazy. I agree we need another PG and another Ubiles would be nice too. Moore/Wright, White/Hasbrouck (or Scoop if you want) and Long/Franklin (or Haddix)...not saying those guys will be on the level of Siena greats from the past but there is some hope they could be in time.

Was looking at Stats Siena played Freshmen 107 min, got 42 points, 13 boards, 8 assists and 3 blocks from Freshmen class. Those freshmen were 18 years old..UA played 1 20 year old freshmen 12 min and got 2 points and 1 board from him
Really excited about the freshmen class and it will only get better as Wolfe starts to play..next year add Cole ( and make no mistake about it--if Cole was eligible Siena wins that game last night) and at least 1 quality freshmen maybe two next season and Siena will be off to the races- hope UA fans enjoy that win they eked out, will be last win for a while for Danes

Cole is a horrendous shooter...one of the worst in the country. 'aint no one afraid of him. 10.3ppg on 10 shots and 3+ TO's a game. Horrendous efficiency... I'm glad for your sake he didn't play. Hymes is enough... You people are seriously delusional about him... 4 in 5 next year!

Siena played freshmen almost entire game and it was a 2 possession game with 2 min to go..enjoy your win ..last one for a loooooooong time as for Cole he was a 18 year old freshmen last year... he will be like a UA player next year a 20 year old soph..makes a huge difference

Peace and good luck the rest of the year... It's been fun. But seriously... Cole has a lot of work to do... You would have lost by more with him in the lineup... He's an offense killer... Or at least was as a freshman.

They played 10 minutes of good offensive basketball, the first 8 minutes of the game and the stretch in the second half when they came back to tie the score at 55. Other than that it was a nightmare, its amazing how different people out here look at that performance from proir years. I know the team is young but you still have to put the ball in the hoop they had 30 minutes last night where they couldn't do that. If they can improve offensively each game they will be ok, if not it will be a tough season. Oh by the way how about the call of the game UA by 12, turning a close game into a double digit win by making FTs.

Some more thoughts..
Wright - looks to have a solid handle and is a very efficient point guard. I wouldnt compare him to ronald moore. I do think he needs to look to score more often, to get to the line. He has a nice mid range pull up jumper but struggles from deep. Bright future and as he goes so will the team. Three words to describe him; smooth, efficient and trust-worthy.
Hymes - many lapses in judgement either hesistating to shoot on offense or a bad pass for a turnover. However on offense he does keep the floor a little more open due to keeping the defense honest. Will brown game planned to have his opposing 2 guard take hymes to the hoop 1 on 1 which just over powered him. He really is a liability on both sides of the floor, should be used 10 mpg each the 1 and 2 spots, no more than 20mpg.
Poole - not worried about him falling. He needs to play because he rebounds and doesnt turn the ball ove at the 3. Dont like Jimmys flex offense designing him 3 point shots all game long. And he really needs to go pump fake, one dribble, pull up or drop pass to a big inside. No concerns with him guarding man to man but albany is mostly players similar to him at that spot.
Long - very promising player, plays hard the entire game, never wears down, strong and battles for every rebound/lose ball. Has good court vision and ball control, and can play inside around the basket for points. Also showed he can knock down jumpers when left open. Will be all maa if he can develop some more moves around the basket or a 12 footer consistently. Need to find ways to get him the ball in good areas along the baseline and high post, not just on the block. Mismatch nightmare indeed.
JO - think he is a really solid big man. He played bigger and harder than anticipated. He has above average hands and ball skills around the basket. He also ran the floor well and gave a good strong inside presence even if it was against UA. Blocke shots and hit the boards hard too. Wish he could have logged some more minutes.
White- earned alot of time like others have already stated. Have wanted him to start now for a while. He has ALL of the physical tools, just needs to put them together. Love his tough demeanor. Sat right next to hasbrouck near the player entrance tunnel - at one point Patsos was in his face and maurice just said ok i got you and gave Patsos a pat on the back lol. He played hard the entire time and does not ge rattled. His handle is better than expected. I thought his lack of quickness sliding his feet was a little suprising but can be fixed, couple fouls due to it. Will be a good one and will light it up if his shot is falling.
Silas - need him in there especially if JO is on the bench. He gave another strong inside presence on defense like JO. Those were the only two who changed the game inside of defense. Long was strong in the post too but is a bit under sized to be an enforcer inside. Silas played better than i thought he would and we really need his rebounding, even though team rebounding was pretty good against UA. Silas should start and split time with JO at the 5.
Bisping - I don't think he played as bad as some here portrayed it. He is sluggish sliding his feet and when the australians stretched the floor he struggled in man to man. He rebounded the ball better than last year. He was one who looked like he got rattled and couldn't relax and play his game. Im not ready to write him off as a good role player just yet. He rushed some shots and looked frantic bu is a sophomore and hasnt logged that many game minutes yet. Think he will play better if he settles down on offense.
Oliver - right now adds nothing on offense. Catches the ball and doesnt look at the basket even, just wants to robotically run the offense and defer. Wont make plays on either side of the ball. Only positives right now is that he takes care of the ball. He hasnt even shown he can consistently shoot yet cause he doesnt shoot period.
Team overall was exciting to watch run the floor together as everyone got involved. Wright is a highlight reel player and will only get better. Same with Long and White. The team will struggle to score. Was impressed with how they rebounded as a team and played hard most of the game. Offense will get better as wright looks to score more and White can knock down jumpers and get to the line. That will help take pressure off poole. If any of them are off, bring in Hymes for a spark. Also would take Audu over Oliver at this point for offense, but he probabl is turning the ball over too much for Jimmy.
The simplest offense ever (flex) can only have so many variations. Its flex or high ball screen with Jimmy. Need guys who can create shots for that (Wright, White, Long, Hymes)
