I agree with you in principle on the 8 guys, but they are going to have to learn how to play without fouling. As it is, both Ogunyemi and Long had their fourth foul by the 11 minute mark of the game. Ogunyemi didn't return until garbage time. Long stayed in and was still somewhat effective. Hymes and Wright both had 2 fouls in the first half-- Hymes picked up his second with 5 minutes to go while Wright already had 2 eight minutes into the game. I won't make excuses. ..Lavon missed all four of his freethrows and that can't happen again he needs to put those in...but you have to give him credit with the fouls...he played hard and smart in the first half and only had one foul in 18mins...that was great for him...he was able to play 35 mins because he did not get his last 2 fouls till the end of the game defending inside and on the perimeter he was never in foul trouble. ..that was my biggest concern with the new rules. ..looks like he is figuring it out..he took 2 charges and had a chase down block late with 4 fouls. ..he stays aggressive and will prob average 3 fouls per game...He just can't get 2 early and he will stay in the game..tonight was a step in the right direction for him Jo and Wright got 2 early due to these rules and JO was never able to get going....most of his were from help defense...the foul trouble did not allow him to play his game...he was unlucky with that and I doubt it will be a habit.. White was a bright spot with his energy and toughness..he def earned some time and I don't think Patsos cares about starting freshmen. ..but White has to shoot better to play the 2...he was great from the Foul line but his 3 fgs were layups...I think that is the only thing keeping him from starting. ..Saints lacked an outside shot and that surprised me so I will chalk it up to first game jitters. ..It reall does not matter if White starts he will be the first off the bench to spell the 2 or 3 like he did tonight and played so hard that he played more than the guy in front of him... I like what I saw from the Saints tonight for the first game...the future is bright Give Wolfe some time..the decision for him to play just came out...Patsos has not worked him in the rotation yet...he played a lot in the exhibition game because Lavon was in foul trouble. ..Lavon playing 35 min took his opportunity away this game....he will get in early soon and have his shot like White did in this game....and needs to make the most of it...this game would have been tough for him as UA was playing bully ball inside..not about finesse at all just banging. .He will get his chance to show what he can do....or he would be redshirting. ..Patsos won't have him waste a year

I pretty much agree with everything junkie said. With perhaps one exception. I take JO over silas. Credit hymes incredible defense for a number of JOs fouls.
- I would like to particularly mirror his comments on Poole. While adding that on this team Poole should now be a complimentary player and not a focal point of the offense. Ive never been overly enamored with his game but in a complimentary role he would be far more effective. The focus of Siena's offense should now be wright long white with nice complimentary roles from poole and JO.
Defensively this team will make leaps over the next month assuming hymes minutes diminish.
Anyone who watched this game can see experience and free throws beat out a very young but very talented team.
That being said... everyone should prepare themselves as this team is going to take some lumps as they hammer out roles.

After having a night to think about it-- agreed this team is going to take some lumps. No doubt Poole had a bad game, but I agree some of you are knee jerk reacting. He was definitely trying to do too much, but that's quite a different problem to solve than being unable/unwilling to play defense. Silas looked good last night- still like JO more at C he is much smoother, having said that Silas looked good last night. Jimmy needs to work on half court motion offense- he needs to get Lavon more touches. Lavon has scored inside and when a UA player backed off Lavon early in game Lavon drilled 3 pointer. We need some plays to isolate either JO or Lavon inside-- we do that a few times and watch the defense "sag" off our outside shooters. We also need to organize our break more- so few outside shots off break- it was like if we cant get layup we set up whole offense/ And to tell you the truth some of this is nit picking... we need the freshmen to get more experience-- and quite frankly we need a talent infusion- the sophomore class is a total bust. Game was still fun to watch and I'm looking forward to a fun season-- better days are most definitely coming

First 10 minutes was a view into the future of Siena bball ... Last 30 minutes showed we are a work in progress .... Did notice Jimmy talking and teaching when he pulled kids out ... Florida will be brutal ... Let's hope the pieces come together by January ... Highlight to me was ability to come back and tie the game

Wow...in the FIRST game and you guys are ready to jump ship. This guy is this ...this guy is that..RELAX! Give it 5 games and see where the team is at before you burn the house down! Some of us need to get on the ship before we can jump off lol. But seriously win or lose, you can expect a breakdown of each game, it's part of the fun, or the healing process. There is going to be a lot of healing going on this season.

Not since very early in Fran's second year as our coach have I enjoyed reading a post game thread after a loss like I have this one. Thanks for all the insights for those of us who couldn't see the game.

He IS quite capable of getting his points and a good amount of them in the natural flow. He is not a guy you should be running your O through. never will be. Long and White on the other hand....

The video feed was horrible but better than the radio. A few buffering episodes, but the real problem is the resolution, it's horrible. That said:
Lavon long can do everything including getting into foul trouble. If he plays smart, he will be effective for the entire 35 minutes or so he plays. I like this kid he has talent and is a scrappy player!
Hymes I like but he is running out of time. I am not comfortable when him running the point. His mistakes and turnovers killed the momentum of the team. The fact that he makes a mistake only to follow it up with another is getting tiresome.
Wright and White are going to be a great duo. I like having a point guard that can penetrate.
Bispings bricks are leading me to believe that he is not a gamer.
Poole isn't a leader and that's a problem. Poole took bad shoots repeatedly.
Second half: This was Mitch ball. And frankly with this talent I think Mitch might have won.
Jimmy can recruit, we need one more cycle which may not happen next year because of the lack scholarships. This scares me. People have posted that players will leave and the schollies will open-this scares me more! How do you know the right players will leave? Or Stay? Not happy with the game, Danes did win hats off to them. Saints lost this game. They had plenty of opportunities to put the game away and to come back.

Wasn't just you.. and I couldn't agree more on Hymes-- he is not a 2 guard- much deeper problems than just a bad game While I agree especially Lavon should get more touches, the freshmen will be fine as time goes on. Poole is very good player that had one bad game-- he is about the only guy on the team that apparently can hit a 3 point shot. Jimmy needs to find a way to GET poole more shots in the offense and not force things. That is a the issue.. Lets not forget a bad game for Poole was shooting 6-14..5 boards, 1 assist and 15 points..not a bad line for a "bad" game.. Poole is not Edwin Ublies or Alex Franklin-- but he is a pretty good player.. that had a bad second half--if he is forcing the issue 3 or 4 games from now, I'll agree with you

Siena really seemed to be looking for Poole and Hymes to lead and do something. Poole is a solid player but not that guy that can put a team on his back. Hymes played his way to a 12 minute rest period to close out the game. And some of that play took Ogunyemi to the bench with him. At least two and I believe three of JOs fouls were playing help D with hymes, oliver and bisping getting destroyed in man to man. When they start to prepare for bigger roles for wright long white wnd lesser roles for hymes and poole the game will turn

I just believe they will get a ton out of him even similar production as a complimentary player. The more he is featured the more horrible mistakes he makes and forces things. Featuring the rookies as they get experience is going to make thinge so easy for poole

Look for Hooper, Audu and Oliver to set sail. When Cole is eligible none will see the court. There will be 1 or 2 HVT's in Loudonville next season.
CellarRat, it did turn into Mitch ball some where around the middle of the first half when Hymes took the point to spell Wright. Hymes either reverted back to his old style or that IS his style, he slows down the offense. It completely changed the complexion of the game and they never really got back in sync.
Too bad, things were going well.

I don't think anyone is jumping ship. Criticism isnt jumping ship if it's constructive and honest. Patience isn't always a virtue as many businessman will tell you. I'm sure many bb coaches agree. Patsos may outwardly state he is patient, but he is not... And that's a good thing.
