....won't be televised. The Sec 2 AA HS football final will be at the same time, and TW-3 is choosing to show that instead of the Siena game. GOOD, now the "fans" will have to get off their asses and actually go to the game. Agree 100% with you on this one HJ! If Siena and TW want a win-win they should delay broadcast our home games as was the practice when Mike Deane was here for example. No reason WHATSOEVER for a live broadcast. The argument that Siena wants to cultivate the market in other parts of the state is seriously flawed. Does anyone actually think a single non-Siena soul in Buffalo or Rochester or Binghamton or East Osh Kosh would notice if our games were delayed? I'll go further - how many actual Siena game viewers are there out there - TW can easily look at those numbers? I'd be willing to bet even the lowest level Canisius or Niagara coach waits and watches the tape LATER! Let the diehard Siena fans subscribe to the internet and watch that feed live. Make the cheap folks (both those that CHOOSE not to go to the TUC and those who won't buy the internet package) wait a few hours and watch the replay at 10. Many of those stay-at-home fans will be standing in line for NIT tickets if we reach that level and will be very upset if they are shutout at that time. Delaying the broadcast will help put the fannies in the seats where Siena both wants and needs them. Go Saints!

You don't understand how to build a fan base in the area. You guys are small time thinkers. God forbid we get a great bb television contract with a major network, you guys would be crushed. Let's hope that Siena stays irrelevant and has very little major tv coverage - good plan!

You CAN watch it, at 9pm, when the real fans get home.
And you build fanbases by WINNING.

Let's hope that Siena stays irrelevant and has very little major tv coverage - good plan! Do you seriously think any "developed fan base" in the Buffalo area would in any way DIRECTLY benefit Siena? I'm a Yankee fan but I refuse to go to the stadium and pay the prices they want. You say you watch all our games, great - would it hurt you to have to wait until 10PM to watch the delayed broadcast? If you watch the video feed you must have subscribed to that service so the TW broadcast is redundant for you. Most, if not all, major (your word) tv broadcasts are generally blacked out in the local area UNLESS the games are sold out. How many of our "developed fans" from Rochester decide to drive to Albany to watch us - even Fran's best teams wouldn't pull those folks into Albany. If you want a market at the arena you can't provide no-cost stay-at-home tv coverage. Folks will simply stay home, watch the game and then dominate the water cooler conversation the next day pretending to have been at the game!

Silly points. I'm talking about capital region fans not upstate fans in buffalo. The video feed is of very poor quality. You guys are simpletons and very close minded. You want to decide what product is produced and how people watch it. I'm not stopping you from going to the arena, so leave my tv alone.
Pretend to go to the arena? Really. You just hate the tv watchers don't you. And we do pay, twc cable is very expensive. Some folks don't have the extra cash, so be kind and think of the less privileged.
Older threads have discussed this issue ad nauseam. I'm done.

We were expressing our opinions, nothing more. If you don't agree with them, fine. I'm curious as to how you, an apparent example of part of the developed Siena fan base in the capital region, benefit Siena in any direct way. Watching the games in the privacy of your home makes you more of a phantom fan in my eyes, especially if you live close by. I can't comment on the quality of the video feed - I go to all the home games and most of the road games. You probably can improve the quality of the video feed by replacing your Commodore 64 with something more current!!!!!!!!! Good night - I'm done.

Where did you see this Junkie? Don't really get it this isn't Texas or Florida high school football isn't that big of a deal here (I'm sure someone will take exception to that!). I didn't get season tickets because of some financial concerns but I plan to attend a bunch of games and watch some on TV. But I can understand both sides get more people to the arena but at the same time a live TV package is great to grow the program. Ironically TW only starting airing most of the home games after the glory days of Ubiles, Franklin, Moore and Hasbrouck. The teams play not TV will determine attendance for the most part. Buy your ticket MTS and its no problem I'll second that thought. Come on Mike for $108 you can get a ticket.

From a tv station perspective only. .. would you actually bother watching every game if you knew the outcome a couple hours ahead of airing? Some die hards might but most wouldn't. It will be hard sell given the status of the product.

I will buy MTS a season ticket if the ticket office gets back to me. Two phone messages and 2 emails and no response. Bullshit. JV operation.

You want to decide what product is produced and how people watch it. You mean like those fools that run the best sports product in the world (NFL) that BLACK OUT any game that isn't sold out? If there's an empty seat, and you're on this forum everyday, you don't have an excuse not to go to the game. Again, I'll go with my "95%" claim so I don't get yelled at by any genuine hardship cases. Something tells me you aren't one of them, you just like saying you're a true fan, but can't even make it to a game or two in person.....

Anyone reading this message that lives within a 1 hour drive of the Times Union and does not have a major conflict of ttheir schedule that can't be moved who does not attend the UAlbany game is not a true Siena fan. Capice?

Let’s relax on telling people what type of fan they are. Everyone chooses their own way to support team
I will say this- the home video feed for Siena (when playing at TUC ) is usually excellent – but then again I’m going on hearsay- since I’m at the games. Maybe others can chime in on video quality

Siena doesn't make it easy for the average fan to attend a game, considering that at least 4,000 of the best seats are taken up by the "true fans" right off the bat, and the admin tries to create false "sell outs" by closing off thousands of easily accessible seats in favor of dangerous nosebleeeds just to save a buck or two. Meanwhile in the past three years the product has been diminished by a failed experiment to save money on a quality head coach and now we have two extra MAAC games to endure. I hope Jimmy comes in here and turns those ugly green bastards into a distant memory. We do need as many fans as possible at the games to help take back the home court, so I encourage anyone out there that can to catch a game or two. I'm closing in on 20 years of season tickets myself. When the team is winning the live experience beats the couch experience by a country mile.
Having said that, I have a decade of data that shows that TV has not accounted for any material decline in paid attendance (not actual attendance). As a small college, it does help keep Siena ahead of the other game in town. It builds brand awareness for not just Siena basketball but the entire college in the capital region if not beyond. I also believe it helps establish tv market potential for that coveted conference most of us want. Don't kid yourself, in this information age, nobody is going to wait two hours to watch the game on tape delay. Live TV is here to stay. Embrace it.
PS-- Red Zone is available on TWC cable as part of Sports Pass. Live coverage of every game, no blackouts. Loads of plays from each game, every touchdown. Every close ending. Six hours of live commercial free NFL coverage for just pennies a day.

Does siena see any money from TW for televising the games? I'm sure the ratings aren't that high so the ad revenue will be low, but we should see some cash out if it, right?
