I wonder if they put Cruz, Wilson, and Merrill in for a while and that's why it got close. But near triple double for Wright. That's always nice to hear about your freshman PG. Siena Saints sienasaints 1m Marquis Wright finishes an assist shy of triple double (15/10/9). Poole ends w/ 23 pts after 24 pt effort yesterday. #SaintsInMontreal Expand Siena Saints sienasaints 5m MBB FINAL: #SienaSaints 80, Concordia 70. Saints go 4-1 on Montreal tour. Lots to look forward to. #MAACHoops #SaintSation Expand Siena Saints sienasaints 9m

There should be no more questions as to why the plan changed and Hymes was moved to the two...Wright is my kind of pg....I have alot of respect for his game....watching him practice was a treat....this team is better than people think...and these 5 games will go far in building chemistry and finding their identity ...Wright has established himself as the head of the ship in terms of being the floor general and Poole opened up his game and filled multiple roles establishing himself as the best player bringing leadership .

Wright's final Montreal stats:
13.6 ppg, 5.4 apg, 3.6 tpg, 4 rpg, 2.2 stls
FG = 22-60 = 36.7% 3pt = 3-11 = 27.3% FT = 21-29 = 72.4% Assists 27, TOs 18, 1.50 ratio. Steals = 11 Rebounds = 20
It reads like the 8 turnovers in that 1st game is more of a 1st game jitters aberration. During the season he probably attempts less threes and finishes better at the rim with a full 35 sec shot clock.
Still 9 assists, 3 TOs today with the 24 sec clock is very nice.
Kid looks solid.

If you take out the walk-ons and only include scholarship player stats:
Saints had:
PPG = 77.6 FG% = 44.7% 3pt% = 30% FT% = 72.9% FT = 86-118 (23.6 FTA per game) 13 blks (2.6 bpg) 40 stls (8 spg)
74 assists, 86 TOs, .86 ratio
Silas had a 4-17 assist ratio. He basically killed the team's ratio himself. We need that to change cause he is by far our best rebounder. Averaged nearly 6 RPG and had most overall boards on the team despite playing least mins of the bigs (Bisping was 2nd). He has to get his act together for us to have an interior defense and be decent in rebounding as shown by the above stats.
Hopefully, he settles down for the season and Wright keeps up or improves his ratio. Getting back Hymes should also improve ball control.

Poole played over 35 min/gm as a freshman but then got sick mid-way through last year and was not the same the rest of the season. I think we get to see what he can really do this year. Coming in JP said he was a cornerstone and I don't think Poole did anything to change JP's mind this trip. After the Brookwood game JP said "I knew Rob Poole would not let us quit", you can't teach that. Combine that with 24 and 23 pt games and solid defense and that is a major reason Lavon will not see major minutes at the three the next two years. For Lavon, that's the bad news. The good news is he will see SOME time at the three and has two years to grow his game and rise and shine as a jr after Poole graduates. Two years to strut his stuff, and polish his skills as an "all-around player". Nine fouls in two games is a little disconcerting, but there are a ton of reasons why that might have happened, including he is still adjusting to playing against a team full of big, quick players. As for the "undersized 4" characterization PPC, ask some of the posters how Alex Franklin did as a 6'5" "4" against some pretty tough programs including the national champion Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA second round. He ended up beating a couple of pretty good teamates (and some other pretty good MAAC players) for MAAC POY. It may not be where you envision him playing the next two years but looks like that will be the scenario. Better than going to a BCS school and riding the pine for two or more years "waiting his turn". Just curious, you said you now realize he should have gone BCS to maximize his potential.. did he have any BCS offers?

I didn't realize how much Silas bulked up until I watched the videos of this trip. He looks great and has the physical tools and frame to be an elite defender and rebounder. Im hoping the 24 second clock in some of the games just rushed him and forced the turnovers, we will see though. Gotta cut down on the fouls as well, he was quite the hacker last year

Lavon had HM interest as a PF with two A10 offers...since he played center everyone was waiting for him to grow ...Nothing is for certain but Lavon had prep schools wanting him and HMs were going to follow....at 6'6 with his skill set and 2 years of development Lavon could have found a fit to play not sit at a HM with size....
Defending inside.is not to Lavon's advantage ...he has worked hard.on his perimeter D and is efficient enough to play out there...he is not a matchup problem on the defensive end defending PFs in College on any.level.of DI....if any other of the guards had to do that they would have trouble as well but Lavon will do whatever for the team....the fact that he got 3 quick ones and finished with 4 shows he is learning ...I hope the Bigs can take over down there soon.....with that said I think Poole just showed Patsos he is the 2 Patsos thought he was....I can see Poole Lavon and Bisping playing alot together at the 2,3 and 4.....Patsos challenged Poole to be more aggressive on the offensive end and stop passing up shots....the last two games he opened up and went in attack mode ....add the great job he did as a backup pg and Poole looks great as a 6'4 combo guard rather than a small forward....and since that was his original position in the first lineip I see it happening this season
Wright 6'0 Poole 6'4 Long 6'6 Bisping 6'8 Silas 6'8
might not be starting lineup but we will see this alot IMOP

I like this lineup, too PPC. That's a formidable lineup in the MAAC if the players develop as we hope they will. Would not be surprised to see Ogunyemi crack the starting lineup at either the 4 or the 5 at some point, depending on how Brett and Imoh are performing.

Wright said in the interview that he was surprised by his numbers because he never came that close before...well there are only 32 min in a HS game and he prob averaged 5 min more than that ...def made the most out of all that time and made Patsos look like a genius...Recruited to wait behind RJ then supposed to learn from Hymes....this def shows you that Patsos makes decisions based on your play and has no problem changing things up

Also Poole is 6'5, not 6'4. The problem is what to do with Hymes. I don't see how you bench him. He'll likely finish the season as the team's second leading scorer.

6'5 even better...that's the size I love...I agree JO will be in the mix and its because of Hymes that Poole was moved from the 2 and Lavon out of the lineup...for that reason Poole will be starting at the 3 and Lavon is moved down low to fight for.mins at the 4 and could start there but so could Bisping or JO...one thing is for sure practice is where you earn it....and that big line up will be on the court a some point in every game with Hymes at the pg at times

All good stuff up north. We get some early hoops, JP gets to see what he has to work with and the kids got to play together. Good stuff. Everyone of these guys have areas that need improvement that was brought to light, now is the time to work on that....... Before UA!

I’m sure we will see the big line up at times- how much depends on how they defend As for the 3 point shooting on this trip keep two things in mind I think 3 of the 5 games were played with 24 sec shot clock, so many of those 3’s were rushed at end of clock, and the entire trip the 3 point line was the international distance ( about a foot and a half longer than NCAA) and yes that makes a difference
