This is getting ridiculous. What are we...Iona North now? On what Basis can Cole possibly claim a waiver?

He might qualify distance wise, he's from North Jersey. I guess it's all going to come down to how good a story he can concoct.

Granted, Iona does have a large number of transfers, but if you think the Gaels are the only team working the transfer game, you haven't been paying attention to college hoops the past few years. Here's a link to the current list of transfers in the NCAA for 2013. ESPN - Goodman's 2013 Transfer List There's no harm in at least applying for a waiver. Worst case scenario, it gets turned down. Siena has ONE transfer on its roster, Iona North it is not.

I agree there is no harm, just don't know what type of reason they can come up.
Newark -> Coppin State in Baltimore is 180 miles and 3 hours.
Newark -> Siena is 150 miles and 2.5 hours.
If they get it, fantastic, I'm just not getting my hopes up.

I'm not sure Oliver's knee will hold. Audu is the dark horse, I think he has potential.

Sienafan- I usually agree with you- but as they say times they are a changing. More and more kids transfer these days. We knew when Jimmy was hired he likes to take transfers, and I might add his track record with these transfers graduating is outstanding. For now you have to give Jimmy the benefit of the doubt.

I think what Sienafan was getting at wasn't so much about taking a transfer but rather requesting the waiver. While there are supposed requirements that need to be met, there really doesn't appear to be any consistency with regards to whether the NCAA does or does not grant the waiver.
With the landscape of college basketball the way it is these days with transfers, I really think the NCAA needs to re-examine their transfer policy.
I'd be in favor of a system that would grant all players a 1 time transfer exception that allows them to be immediately eligible.

I have no problem with transfers. It's the waivers for B.S. reasons. Buie might have a legit one as Siena is in his home area and his father is really ill. But what's Cole's excuse? Albany ain't that much closer to his Newark home than Baltimore. And what's his family issue? I don't want to see Siena get caught up in that game of attempting to B.S. the NCAA to get kids immediatley eligible - the very same thing we all give Iona shit for.

I think people give Iona heat because they build their entire team on transfers. I don't think that's the way to go. That said you can't argue with the success they've had and I don't believe any of their players have caused any problems either. I agree the NCAA waiver thing is B.S. but if the NCAA is going to give them out randomly why not try and get one too for Cole? If everyone is doing it - why not Siena? There's nothing illegal or wrong and you might as well "play" the NCAA if they are going along with it. If the NCAA has a big problem with it then change the rules - they give out the waivers like candy right now. The bottom line is we need either Cole or Buie (White isn't coming pretty obvious) next year at SG if we want to seriously contend. Jimmy doesn't want a long rebuilding project and I don't blame him... three years is long enough for Siena to be down. Just win, baby!
