Just watched the Xavier game from the other night and KK you appear to be right on. The 3's they hit were either in transition or there was a collapse by the defense. A lot easier said than done but a big focus should be trying to get their big man, Jones, into foul trouble early. We all know that's what they intend on trying to do to Burns as there is a huge gap between him and Sammy but it'll be harder for them to do if Jones is stuck to the bench. Gonna need Sammy to be really productive while Burns is subbed out and they must limit second and third chance points just like they did on Tuesday. I'm not expecting a win but hey, ya never know I agree......hope they use Kyle Young's big body for some minutes in that regard and try to wear on Jones a little

Steele knows more about Siena than a lot of MAAC people. He's a smart dude.

KK. You keep the stats quite accurately. What was the difference between halves? and if the 2nd half was more, couldn't you attribute that toward the use of more and deeper bench players?

Steele knows more about Siena than a lot of MAAC people. He's a smart dude. He claims he knew we were going to be good this season so that's why he scheduled us - to help their power rating. I don't know if that's a true or just coachspeak. But if true, he knows a lot more about Siena than even we did.

KK. You keep the stats quite accurately. What was the difference between halves? and if the 2nd half was more, couldn't you attribute that toward the use of more and deeper bench players? You mean defensively? Saints gave up 31 1st half, then they got lazy with the big lead and gave up 49 in the 2nd half. I attribute it to being lazy and not stopping the ball...and maybe being too enthusiastic going for offensive boards and trying to make things happen by poking the ball away. 1st game though and frosh are always just feeling their way this time of year. We need the frosh to step up as year goes on. Hopefully, the defense comes together. Still, at times, Siena was spoiled with Smithen's defensive energy during last year's huge late defensive turnaround. Team kind of got used to him doing the hard work on the ball and taking pressure off everyone else. They all need to focus more now. They can be even better on D than they were during that stretch if they play together. They're so much more athletic now. It's just, I don't think it can be just 1 person hyper effecting the game on that side of the ball anymore. They all have to be smarter about positioning and stopping the ball. The on ball D needs to improve. They were also playing way up on guys and reaching in even though that team wasn't a great 3 point shooting team. Why do that? A few guys got burned that way. Maybe they were just amped up for 1st game. They have to play smarter on that side of the ball....and know your opponent. They wanted to drive. That was their game just like these next 2. Don't play like you're trying to stop the 3. Know your opponent.

Happened to find Travis Steele’s press conference for tomorrow night’s game and he is not taking the team lightly. He’ll have Xavier ready to go for sure

Steele knows more about Siena than a lot of MAAC people. He's a smart dude. Yeah he was mentioned for a lot of mid-major jobs before Mack left Xavier. He's a solid coach. This won't be like Coach K or Calipari who doesn't know our names. He's got us pretty well scouted. We have to be ready to play, make some big shots and hope Xavier isn't hitting. I don't expect to win (though it would be SWEET!) but I expect a good competitive battle.

Jacksonville had 57 pts but they are a 300ish type offense each of last 2 years...and looking like that again.
If Siena is a top 150 type offense like I think it may be, I have to figure this game could be a lot closer as long as Xavier doesn't pick tomorrow to start making their 3's.
It could be within 10 a lot of the game. If the Saints can score enough to put pressure on X to have to score more...they might start jacking threes and help us out.
I feel like this might be a good game to give up the offensive boards a bit as well and just get back on D. I like our chances of stopping them in a halfcourt situation a lot more than in a transition one.

Hold up there champ. Who said they're a top 150 team all of a sudden? 1 blowout win over a crippled Patriot league team does not a top 150 team make. I'm as encouraged as anyone by Tuesday's result. But let's not put the cart before the horse. ... I'm actually more afraid of Siena's defense right now. Saints fouled too much vs. American and ... . The refs seemed to change what they considered a foul very late in 1st half and most of the 2nd half. Siena got the better end of the calls in 1st half both ways (fouls called against American and non-calls where Siena could have been called). In 2nd half American received the non-call fouls and the non-calls Siena got in1st we’re now being called. American coach got the refs attention in 1st half. Siena didn’t adjust and therefore were called for more fouls in 2nd half that they weren’t getting called earlier. I doubt the Big East refs will be as picky and mainly call the more obvious fouls. That will allow both teams to play more physical. Also, televised games (non-MAAC vs MAAC games) usually don’t get that many fouls called in an effort to keep the game on schedule. I doubt Siena gets called for as many fouls as they did against American.
