The fact is Hein is an experienced player, who played at a higher level than the MAAC- coaches LOVE experienced players- unless someone beats him out, Hein is going to play 15/20 Min a game. This is where stats fail you—teams are made up of player’s not just stats, a lot to be said for glue type players. I’m hoping Hein has a solid year- we are probably going to need it Not really. I'm suggesting he'll get beaten out. Everyone else returns next year or is named Elijah Burns. A tie goes to anyone else. No reason to be overly loyal to him if he's not making shots. Carm can develop the other guys. See Bayer. Hein is probably the guy on the roster he can most afford to piss off. That's what's great about a grad transfer.

How would people change this playing time breakout? I personally think the top 5 here have to play as much as possible. Pickett ------ 35 Carey ------- 32 Harris ------- 32 Camper ------28 Burns -------- 30 Sutherland ---12 Friday ------- 10 Ratliff -------- 9 Hein --------- 6 Young ------- 3 King --------- 3 Darwiche ---- 0 Tchougang -- 0 Mahala ------ 0 Total--------200 For those who'd argue the starters would/should play less: Note that Pickett averaged 37.1 mpg last year, Camper 26.2, and Carey 31.4 as a frosh at MSM. I think the drop off from the top 5, especially in the backcourt, necessitates that they probably each play 32+ minutes. Camper and Burns have Sutherland and Friday/Young behind them so maybe they can sit more. Ratliff played 16+ mpg when he played last year. Perhaps he's the one who could change things most. However, I really don't think Pickett will sit that much more than last year. I think the drop off between he and Hein will just be too great for the staff to stomach for too long a stretches. I think they'll end up running selectively and opportunistically this year. Next year, they'll be able to go faster. I think Hein's defense might be nice for short stretches but Pickett will play and Ratliff is more versatile. Pickett.- 32 Carey - 30 Camper - 28 Burns - 27 Harris - 26 Hein - 14 Ratliff - 10 Friday -10 Sutherland - 10 Young - 5 King - 5 Tchougang - 2 Darwiche - 1 Mahala - 0 Total--------200 I could also see Ratliff getting more than10 if he can show us what Carm saw in him when Carm was recruiting Jimmy to GW. There will be close games where we’ll see Picket play 35-38 mins but I’m hoping those are offset with Siena “blowouts” where he might only need to play 25-30 mins.

Hope I am wrong, but I don't see Burns being able to play 30 minutes a game. Knee issues.

And now the height debates will start. Is Ftiday really 6-9 or is Denzel closer to 7’0 etc

What makes it so tough to predict minutes; we just don’t know how ready freshmen are. For instance if Sammy is playing well or Young is ready to play 10 min a game, you could see Elijah play extended min at the 4- pushing Manny to 3. If Luke is ready for 10/15 min a game, prolly see less of that. All we know for sure is Pickett, Carey, Burns and Camper are going to play a lot. With loss of Seymour if we hope to realistically contend we need Harris to be ready to play and play well. We will be young for sure- but very talented, a team that should get better as season goes on and freshmen get some experience. Really looking forward to an exciting season ( probably with lots of highs and lows) Unless everyone else improves enough to allow Carey to be the one to back up Pickett, then the drop off at PG is too great.
Whether it's Friday/Young pushing Burns to the 4. Sutherland pushing Camper to the 3. Ratliff able to cover for Harris effectively...Harris being able to play the 2 for Carey... etc etc.
And down the line...
The facts are that, forget 3's, Hein is 30.8% career 2 PT shooter and a 61.8% FT shooter. But most importantly he's never been a real effective PG at the D1 level. The drop off from Pickett to Hein or Darwiche AT PG will be enormous if they're the ones backing him up.
The only way you give Pickett a real breather and not drop off horrendously is probably if you have Carey and Camper/Harris etc out there without him. That means that somebody is going to be playing on the wing or at PF. Maybe that's Hein...maybe that's Ratliff..or Sutherland..or Burns etc..
However, you can't have Pickett and Carey on the bench at the same time and expect good things to happen. Once the games start I think every decision will flow down from that.
Carm has said he wants to rest Carey and Pickett together. Perhaps he'll discover a reality that will not allow that.

Does anyone know if this sneak preview is similar to the ones if the past just moved to a Saturday? Or are they doing something different?

Does anyone know if this sneak preview is similar to the ones if the past just moved to a Saturday? Or are they doing something different? It sounds to me that the only thing different is that they’re trying to make it more of a “family” event by adding the family zone activities for children. JMO. “The KeyBank Siena Basketball Sneak Preview features complimentary parking in the Times Union Center garage, as well as refreshments for guests. The event serves as the first opportunity for 2019-20 Siena Basketball season ticket holders to secure their physical season tickets, and season ticket holders who bring a guest with them to purchase new season tickets at the event will receive a FREE gift as part of the Saints Referral Program. Additionally, there will also be a BSN Sports Family Fun Zone for Saints' fans of all ages to enjoy. Fans who plan to attend the Sneak Preview are kindly requested to RSVP in advance by clicking on the corresponding link and filling out the form.” My guess is by having it on a Sat afternoon, more “families” may have the option of attending. It would be harder if held on a work night at 5 or 6 (too hard for working parents to go home then return at 5-6pm. The “family” theme is consistent with Carm’s philosophy though. JMO
