Hope Sloan makes a lot of people eat crow the next 3 years! Myself and HJ have always said we hope we are wrong. Maybe it’s just him waking up, maybe it’s the staff. But he’s saying the right things and that’s a good sign.

Now if Camper can get his 3 pt percentage around 35% things will really be looking up. Always the optimist.

As Camper is one of the few who drives to the basket I'd prefer to see his free throw shooting go up. If he can get up to 65%+ he's going to be incredibly difficult to stop. Also he's the team's best offensive rebounder so he won't be taking many 3s anyway

Nor do I but hitting at least 35% on his limited attempts will keep the defense honest and only improve his efficiency and open things up in the lane.

But he’s saying the right things and that’s a good sign. Or maybe it’s a 19 year old kid just starting to grow up. I don’t want to point any fingers at anybody- but the plan was always for Sloan to Prep last year and get stronger. Siena was lucky to get him when they did, because had he went prep I doubt we end up signing him. Sloan is one of the best freshmen Big men ( over 6’9” or taller ) scorers in history of the MAAC – and all we heard from haters was that doesn’t count because he doesn’t play like a big man – well he was still growing into his body like a big man and of course if it was that easy plenty of other Shooters over 6’9” would have done it—oh wait – in the MAAC we don’t normally sign guys that size that can shoot like that- normally only find those types at P5 conferences. Hey maybe the haters will be right, talk is cheap, but Sloan certainly seems to be taking the steps he needs to. And as fans what more can we ask for? Give us all you got Sloan and we will back you 100% .. Because if Sloan does become a 12 and 4 guy this year he will probably end up on one of the ALL MAAC teams – Give the kid a chance!!

It seeems he has the right attitude. Any leap he makes is great for the team. He’ll be on the court for his shooting. If he can do other things while he’s in there, that benefits the team as a whole.
Even a few boards a game is big at this point.

So many said Seymour won't change because he doesn't have it in him. Sounds like he's eager to prove otherwise. And whether he succeeds or fails, the willingness to try shows the kid's got some guts after all. Sometimes all it takes is to want it. And God help the MAAC if he succeeds.

I applaud you Tony. I have said repeatedly that I am not the best "technical evalulator" of college basketball talent but I can appreciate a player of ability. I will say again, it is my personal view what his biggest challenge is confidence, being afraid to make a mistake. For me it goes back a long time, 12 years old, little league baseball. I caught just about a perfect game, threw TWO guys out at second base and went 3 for 3. My dad praised me on the ride home, and then came "the but". I had taken a called second strike on a good fastball. I "screwed up" in his eyes. That was 54 years ago. I still remember it. I never met Steve Seymour and maybe this does not apply to Sloan, but when you are young and the son of a guy who was part of your school's basketball team and your dad only wants you to be better and better, I can see how that can impact an 18 y/o. Let's give him a fair shake. As "Yogi" (the common man's philosopher) once said, "90% of this game is mental, the other half is physical"

The whole team is lifting. That’s a great sign. The extra muscle will help Sloan’s shot get even better, but won’t help at all with his rebounding numbers. That’s heart and a mentality. IF those things change overnight, great. I’m just happy that Carm has made it clear to him he needs to rebound to stay on the floor. No more free roaming passes like he got from JC. If he can get 2-3 rebounds a game in his 25 min, I’d be ecstatic. I hope it happens.

Seymour has to at least be a 3 rpg guy. That's what a so-so rebounding guard would do. The difference can be made up for by the fact that Pickett, Camper, and Harris are all probably plus rebounding guards.

But (not to be like HG's dad), I don't think Seymour's rebounding # is all that important. If he is getting 3 rebounds per game but he is beating out Burns or Camper to get them, it doesn't really help the team. Given his offensive game, I don't expect a guy like him to get many (any) offensive rebounds. I would look more towards how the guy he is guarding (or the guys on his side of the zone) are rebounding. If Siena is giving up lots of offensive rebounds because he is getting beat, it's an issue. If they aren't, leave the kid along.
