Sloan Seymour, if you go to Verbal Commits and go thru his other offers, is EASILY the best prospect the school has ever signed. Name me one other kid we beat out: Pitt, St Johns, Rutgers, Rhode Island, St. Josephs, Vermont, Iona etc.....for.
Somebody just bought the Brooklyn Bridge. Hope you're enjoying your honeymoon coach.

I'm assuming that JC has seen film of this young man. We also read that he was part of some kind of work-out when the two recruits came to the campus. If that's the case, I'm guessing that JC sees enough in this young man to want to bring him in. Sloan certainly has to be aware, at this point, as to what he's in for with JC's system. Let's be optimistic and hope we have a diamond that just has to be developed and polished.

You could be right but based on what I've seen of Jamion so far (from afar) he is a relentless recruiter so if Sloan isn't cutting it he'll spend the vast majority of his time at Siena way way down the bench. If Sloan surprises us we'll all be thrilled. If he doesn't and the staff doesn't find someone better in the next recruiting cycle the honeymoon will wrap-up quickly and the biological clock of the arrangement will most definitely be clicking for some hardware for our Saints.

HJ - Do you think Christian would be signing this kid with his eyes closed? Not saying Seymour is capable of those schools but they must have seen SOMETHING. He's been our coach for less than 2 weeks. I always gave Patsos the benefit of the doubt on recruits because I trusted he knew more about it. His job depended on it. I think we all should give Christian the same leeway, at least till he has a chance to get a full cycle in.

He had a decade of experience recruiting AND coaching IN THE MAAC prior to coming to Siena. There was simply no excuse for what we saw from him while he was here. As far as Christian goes... if this is the beginning of him signing some of the top talent locally, GREAT! I would rather have some of the schools listed interested in a recruit than the junk recruiting we've seen the past 5 years. If the prior coach was here... he lands neither of these kids... and finds more D2 kids to round out the roster.

I will remind the new coach and my fellow posters of two statements by the newly minted coach:
"We don't need to take kids just to take kids, we can get ELITE players, we are Siena."
"I am open to keeping one or two scholarships open..."
I think he just tied up four more years of a scholarship to sit on the bench or be a spot player for at least a couple years that could have been used in the fall. This ain't gettin' Siena to the top. Yes I know two days ago I posted that the team needed one more big, but I would have suffered one more year of "small ball" to get two bigs next year (Fischer graduates, so Siena will need two, not one). I'll quietly scratch my head and watch and see without further comment on recruits.

We shall see in in both of the 2 above posts.
Not even two weeks in and I am not about to say that this coach does not have an idea of what he is doing.

Yeah, I don't get why this signing is a surprise to anyone. In all his interviews, the top two things coach looks for is Size and Shooting ability. This kid checks both those boxes. Looks like he had a better Jr year than he did a senior year. Perhaps due to blossoming of Shaker's other big?

This young coach definitely has the "it" factor. I see a great motivator that knows how to inspire young athletes. There is doubt what his message is or how he runs his program. Sloan might be one of these kids that needs to be kicked in the ass by a strong "motivator." I don't think any player on JC's roster is going to survive or stay in the program if they're aren't working hard. Just the extreme nature of his fitness regiment is going to probably result in more players leaving than what is normal for DI.

IF my buddy JP signed this kid, I'd have the same reaction. Maybe even more upset since I knew they had seen him several times. The staff went to Shaker games all year.....to recruit the other kid, Cook (6'9" jr), not Seymour.
Like I said, this kid supposedly has the most impressive list of schools of any recruit we've ever landed, so he should be held to that expectation. Day One starter, and major contributor.
Theres enough intelligent posters on this board to figure out why this kid was going to prep school. Grades need work? Nope. Wants to get more scholarship offers? Nope, has (HAD is my opinion) dozens. Then why? And if he wants to get "stronger" and "better," then by all means go to prep school and we'll see you in '19. We need bodies now. No redshirting. We dont have that luxury.
He jumped on that mid-major offer in May like a fat kid on a birthday cake. Ask yourself why......

Actually he averaged 19 ppg and 6.8 rpg his senior year, so that wasn't too shabby either. It's what led to his St. John's offer. I don't know what's changed, but it's a fact that a lot of people wanted this guy last summer before his senior year. www.bigeastcoastbias.com/2017/7/24/16018312/st-johns-red-storm-basketball-2018-sloan-seymour

It's going to be interesting to see where this goes. Maybe even Dad thinks that this type of coach and/or environment is what this young man needs to be motivated and get a kick in the ass. They're just kids and they're certainly aren't all the same.
