little jab on the way out the door.
"During his Mississippi State visit, Oduro noticed the big-time trappings of the SEC school.
"The environment was different,'' Oduro said. "Everything was bigger, the facilities were better. A major difference than like coming from Siena.""
also... you can bet there is a reason he hasnt spoken to Christian. Seems there is more to this story than Oduro is letting on.
I was never enamored with him. Of course I havent been all that enthused by ANY of Patsos recruits... and the record proves that opinion sound.

Prince is so lucky that patsos resigned. His career would have been wasted here.

If I were JC, my first official action would be to meet with all the players - individually and as a group. *If* he didn't reach out that's a shame. Oduro had the makings of a great big. Several people on this board were down on him but he's the best freshman big we've had in a loooong time. That said, look at all the talent we lost after Lanier left. Fran started with very little.

Which is worse.. the current roster? or this: Beers Ryan Fisher Mensah Jordan Haddix the funny thing is... you could run that group and they would RIP this current roster a new one. and regarding Prince. My guess is his handlers told siena staff that he is gone. Prince probably never had a word in it thus his "I was never contacted" statement. Not to mention... the pic of him in a Mississippi State uniform over a week ago?

Pretty sure he did, he mentioned in the presser that he had met with the team that day. Per this board, Prince was already off campus by the time he was named. Per TU, he met with both Horn and Penn.

Not to mention... the pic of him in a Mississippi State uniform over a week ago? Haddix was hurt and out for the season. That team had David Ryan, recruited as a shooting guard, playing Center. Fisher was a great shooter but much better off the bench (As we saw in the coming seasons). You, and everyone else on these boards, had them winning around 5 games that first year and Fran went out and won 15. Best coaching job I have ever seen (and it's not particularly close) Any team that was getting 21 minutes a game from Diop and Levi Osby cannot be said to be talent laden.

Best coaching job I have ever seen (and it's not particularly close) Any team that was getting 21 minutes a game from Diop and Levi Osby cannot be said to be talent laden. actually that is not true about the win total for me. Tony, MTS and others can chime in that I was looking at a rapid turnaround under fran and felt that .500 was far from out of the question that first year. McCaffery proved what we (or at least I) have said all along. It isnt all that hard to win in the maac as a Siena coach. Recruit the proper areas, dont be lazy and be able to have your proverbial x's and o's shite together. I was a HUGE fan of the McCaffery hire. secondly it isnt about that team and its win totals. Its about that team and how it would destroy this team. I felt with the hiring practices after hewitt that the school was forcibly hiring a minority coach rather than the best candidate for the job. There was also a push around Lanier time for the young up and comer nationally. Siena followed that trend a bit late. The program bottomed out and they went the route of committee hire and found McCaffery. GREAT fit. the national trend was promote the up and coming assistant. McCaffery left and instead chose to promote Buonaguro, "the has been" assistant. The second chance reasoning was CRAP. And I dont care what the players said. That was a destined train wreck in the making. Then came the safety/lazy hire. Patsos. That proved lazy and not so safe. This hire looks pretty good. I am a little concerned on the recruiting front but I am hopeful. I dont want to load up with 4 yr mt st marys recruits. I would rather go the walk on/ transfer route if necessary and leave the full 4 yr scholarship slots for kids recruited to come HERE.

SF - re: recruiting I agree. Let's get guys that want to play at Siena, not just guys that want to play for JC.
As for Fran vs JC - first year...let's just leave it at both guys are expected to do better than their predecessor with whatever talent they were left.

Not sure how we will bounce back from this one. Really tough to replace guys that play nearly 30 mpg, shoot 33% from the stripe and bring down less than 2 offensive rebounds a game. You’re fooling yourself if you don’t believe an athletic 6’8” big who is going to end up at a power 5 conference team would help the saints in the coming years. +1

I would always prefer the coach and player talk before decisions are made but this is interesting case for me because it was made clear Prince was leaving before the ink was dry on SoSos resignation. Before JC was hired Prince was out visiting schools in higher conferences and as far as I know never gave a hint that he'd be interested in meeting the new coach and returning to Siena. So just like with Basabe, I am resolved that it wasn't meant to be, wish him the best and hope the new staff can find a kid who can replace him AND wants to be at Siena..

He has potential to be good, but a lot of work is needed. If he some how gets to a power 5 conference, which I doubt, it will be for a struggling team. Even with the red shirt year he will be a bench player for sure. He struggled in the MAAC playing 30 minutes a game to help Siena win games. He will be lost at the higher levels. But maybe his awesome free throw shooting will help him. If PO doesn't do some serious work. He will never get the minutes anywhere else, that JP handed him at Siena. I wish him luck but I think his handlers have screwed him. He should have stayed at Siena and tried to earn playing time instead of wanting it promised to him.

I would have liked for Prince to stay at Siena and work on improving his game. His athleticism might have served him well here; if he ends up at a Power 5 school, his athleticism will be matched or bettered by most of his opponents. His hands are a problem, he's foul-prone, he doesn't rebound as much as he should/could, and there were a number of times when he just seemed lost on the floor. He certainly has positives in his game, but he does need a lot of work. Bbfan and I may be wrong, and it wouldn't bother me in the least if we are, but I don't see him helping an upper-level team anytime soon. I wish him well, and hope that he can use the year he sits out to improve his game.

There are numerous examples of players moving up from subpar coaches and succeeding. However I also want players that want to be here.
