Baker helps out both ways especially against a team like Manhattan. Those 2 guards maker it easier breaking that press.Plus having Baker gives Penn more opportunities for catch and shoot situations. If you play these guys together JP has no excuse not to push the ball more. You have 2 guards that don't turn the ball over and can start the offense. Therefore there's no excuse to play slow JMO.I don't think players worry about being recruited over it's up to them to step up there game.Step up or step out plain and simple.

Getting Timberlake now might be the #1 best thing Siena could do for the possession battle. Potentially, he could have combo guard abilities while simultaneously providing big defensive and rebounding impact...with the added benefit of not losing shooting/scoring.

While reading this thread about our personnel next season, it seems to me that you can change the pieces on the checker board (I certainly won't say chess in this reference), but if you still have the same person moving the pieces (ineffectual full court press resulting in uncontested layups, 30 seconds of playing time before being yanked, revolving door on the doghouse and practice sessions that contribute to gametime fouling), you end up with the same results. I'll spare you the old chestnut about the definition of insanity...

But, I just can't stomach Siena allowing an ineffective coach to chase of good kids who may not be great basketball players but committed to Siena and through no fault of their own are being shown the door.

I’ve made peace with it. Siena has made the decision to stick with JP for whatever reason and there’s not a darn thing that can be done about it. We just have to hope for the best from whoever stays and what new kids come aboard.I hope that JP can recognize and play to their strengths. It’s just not worth the energy to try to think we can change anything when decisions, good or bad are made at another level. So let’s go DeVon and Saints!! I guess I can see IS point of view to a certain extent.

So just for shits and giggles we get Welch and Timberlake...what do you think our record will be...15 and 15...I'm getting excited thinking about that So let's say this is the team (I'm really half-assing the rotation here): PG - Penn 30, Baker 10 SG - Baker 15, Horn 12, Richard 13, Bentley SF - Timberlake 30, Wojcik 10 PF - Welch 30, Emilien 5, Camper 5, Huerter C - Oduro 25, Fisher 15 I'd say 4th or 5th. Penn, Baker, Timberlake, Welch, Camper...could all be 2 way guys. And Oduro, Bentley, Emilien, and Heurter all would provide at least some kind of defensive abilities as well. Everyone save Oduro would be able to hit a 3. Most would be good at FTs with just Oduro, Camper, Emilien and Heurter maybe the iffy ones. Everyone save maybe the '3 shooters' are plus rebounding guards. Interior D may not be great but the defensive play making abilities of Penn, Baker, Timberlake, and Welch especially could offset a lot of the problems. They'd all likely be solid in steals/blocks for their positions and would rebound like crazy as guards. They might still struggle with turnovers a bit and may force feed Oduro too much...and need time to adjust. So, I'd say that this team could have, overall about a top 150 ranked defense and since they're still young and Oduro is still here the offense would only improve to maybe top 180. So like an overall Kenpom of about 150. That would be right around what they need for 4th/5th given the expected strength of Rider/Canisius/Iona/Quinny... And if some of them falter...maybe better because of the wing's extreme playmaking abilities on both sides of the ball.

Camper's prorated stats at about 30 mpg with 1,000 total mins played:
FG%= 59% FT%= 61% 3pt% = 50% PPG = 8.8 RPG = 5.3 Steals = 46 Blocks = 18 A/TO = 2 to 5
His PPS was a team best 1.88 per shot...though only based on 17 total shot attempts. So, really Camper kind of did most of what he was billed at on paper in his minimal minutes played.
He was always supposed to be that impact defending undersized forward who was highly efficient scoring within 2pt range. He pretty much met the billing...just didn't play much.
Heurter:
FG%= 47.7% FT%= 47.1% 3pt% = 35.7% PPG = 5.3 RPG = 5.1 Steals = 15 Blocks = 39 A/TO = 1.20 to 1 PPS = 1.23
Heurter is like the opposite defensively. Blocks more shots..less steals...but is a better passer and less aggressive scorer.
Maybe both guys could take another leap forward. They both need to be more aggressive on offense.

You would think but on this team the best players don't always start let alone play so the jury is out on what will happen. More than likely Penn was recruited over at the point and since he can't play any other position he might transfer out. We'll see. Siena has 2 PGs in a league where having 2 good PGs is largely a prerequisite for success. Jimmy could very well pull another 'Smithen' on us but, if he was smart, he'd use them both for as much time as their skillsets allow. Given both Baker and Penn's on paper skills especially with regards to defense and rebounding, they very well could both play....like a Robinson/Hornbeak combo. Neither seem to have the defensive weaknesses of a Horn, Wojcik, or Richard...so in theory they can play more mins. Hilarious

We have been told repeatedly that Richard would be leaving at the end of the season. Not so? Has Mommy now switched to Penn may leave.
